The Rookie 5x03 parallels & callbacks

1) Hazing Nolan- There’s not much hazing, just the mention, but it’s cool to see how much has changed between Grey and Nolan. Grey didn’t like Nolan on the first day and now he’s joyfully giving him encouragement on being a TO.
2) Grey’s Rookie speech- I love that he keeps carrying this on. One day I’ll do a mash up of all the rookies first day moments.
3) Tim Boasting- It was fun to see Lucy carry that over to Aaron.
4) Shop Talk- I really wished we got Aaron in these clips.
5) Saging the Shop- I mean Lucy and Celina could be besties. I hope we get to see more of them. Love Celina. I hope she stays too.
6) Aaron’s Connections- I love Tim and Aaron riding together. That was one of the highlights of S4.
7) Correcting Nolan- The intonation with which Grey said those things to Nolan made me think of this scene. It’s one of my faves from S1, so funny.
8) “Like a Five Star Meal”- When I first saw this, it was like Lucy was us fans when we notice parallels, lol.
9) Tim’s panic- you can yell at me later for bringing in DOD, but doesn’t it give you all the feels
10) Finding Lucy- It was a little of a stretch, but not really. With the RD storyline resurfacing, it seemed to match.
What I noticed on rewatching this, is that even tho we don’t get many scenes of Chenford together, all their scenes were back to back.
11) Smitty’s posters- Smitty’s got a poster machine at home, I bet, lol! I wonder if he slightly got some pleasure out of this one to get back at Tim for not endorsing him.

7:40 Honestly, Smitty's posters are the least of his problems. I feel like at some point in the show, he's going to do something SO stupid that he's going to be fired by either Tim or Grey. I don't want to him get fired but Officer Smitty is easily the worst kind of slug anyone has to deal with.

Oh for sure! Every place has one. I also watched Brooklyn 99, and I equate him to Hitchcock and Scully. But, every once in a while, like a long while tho, he has shown some redeeming qualities. But, he’s such a hilarious part of the show. I hope they don’t get rid of him.

Honestly I'm surprised Smitty wasn't fired after being in charge for a day. He let half (If I remember right) Of the force go home early during an emergency. That should have been grounds for a termination. Or at least a demotion.

@@mantankerous5844 maybe back then. But honestly, with recent episodes, I personally can see myself taking Smitty's badge and gun if I was his Sergeant. I will admit that Smitty can be fun sometimes, but after what he did to Lucy, he's not as funny as he used to be back then.

Us navy seals Few of them wrote books, the one book I can’t even remember for the life of me had this one part where the author left the seals and did civi life. Once his son and his friends reached teen years they all spoke of being a seal. He talked about how hard the life is and what it entails and his son already said that’s not for me and his quote “if anything I say can sway him from being a seal then he doesn’t really want it” and that hit hard

I don’t recommend watching it for free. I excessively rewatch the show on Hulu, it’s not a bad deal subscription if you are in the U.S. They even do a cheaper one for students.

He walks a fine line but it's not bullying. He was up front with Nolan. And admitted if it is his calling, nothing he does matters. And how he treated Nolan when he proved he deserved to be there shows what type of person he is. He treated each Rookie differently based on what they needed. Nolan needed to be tested due to his age. West needed more time because he was a second generation cop. He thought he knew everything. Chen was the model officer who just needed a moulding and slowing down. But if you don't believe me. Watch the full scene from season 3 where he gives the speech to the new rookies. You'll see why he didn't want Nolan in his department at the start of the show.

@@TheOmegaRiddler Ok well he at least should have been a BIT nicer. Like Nolan did a good job on his first day. He saved a girl's life and caught a suspect. Sure he left his partner but consider this. What if he was the ONLY officer left and he had to choose between catching a murderer who could murder again or tending to his partner. I bet you Any superior would have told them to catch the murderer. Just saying while yes Nolan did break a rule, Grey was out of line when he essentially fired Nolan for DOING HIS JOB. Oh, and one other thing I have to say. NO police department should be able to reject a recruit because of age alone. If Nolan could get through the academy he is surely fit. God Bless Captain Anderson for seeing what the others were too age discriminant to see. sad that she died so early.

@@jeremydale4548 It is Grey's job to be a gatekeeper, not their friend. He's there to make sure someone who comes through his department doesn't get someone killed because police officers are held to a higher standard. He feared what Nolan represented. Middle-aged people joining the police force and discovering, too late, that it's not for them and getting someone killed. There is no room for mistakes. Yes, Captain Anderson gave him a second chance. But If Nolan can't handle Grey, then Grey was right. If he can't handle Grey, how is he going to handle someone with an attitude on the street. Grey is not a bully, he's just tough on people to make sure they are capable to do the job. Nolan earned his respect and even his trust. And when Grey needed someone to be there for him, it was Nolan. Calling Grey a bully is an insult when you have a cop like Stanton.

Police Force isn't a life for the weak, you potentially see the ugliest parts of humanity there, they're not all speeding tickets and squabbling neighbors. The "black cop" is a Sergeant, he's not their coworker, he's not there to be their friend, he's their boss, he's there to weed out the weak and make sure you can do your job responsibly. If you can't understand that then I suggest you go to your Safe Space and polish your Participation Awards.

@@jeremydale4548 you are not a cop, training and procedure comes before anything in your first year. you have not earned the right to make gut calls, you have to prove you know the training before you can make your own calls and Nonlan is joining as a rookie when most cops are retiring
