So you turn up for your racetrack driver training. What is the one thing your instructor will stress throughout the day? Yes, that. This is what happens when you don't do it.
But I've never heard anyone say how far. That's why in this video I answer that question.
Whilst this video is racetrack-focused, the technique is applicable on onroad and offroad driving as well as towing.

Thanks Robert that was very good. I find I come in too fast and consequently wash off too much speed losing momentum in the process.

Yes, "slow in fast out" is a good way to think about corners before you build up to fast in fast out. Basically braking say 10m before you really need to might lose you 0.05, but you'd gain that back in the corner let alone a better exit speed and higher speed down the straight where it can translate into many tenths. I actually have some video to prove that exact point.

@@L2SFBC Thanks Robert. I realise the folly in my approach, but overcoming the natural instinct when out and running adrenalin 100% is a tall order :). I just have to persevere when I next get a chance! Thanks mate. I really look forward to your videos.

Robert, Vision, looking ahead?! Knowing your track… thinking about Nürburgring…. Awfully lot of corners… Know your track is there the key and know where you are on the track. Thanks for your video Cheers

Part of the difficulty with the 'Ring is you need to learn the corners more than usual because most of them are blind and the vision techoque is not as effective; I show some 'Ring footage in the video. On a normal track you can generally see the entire corner so you don't need to remember quite as much. And of course there are a LOT of corners, and you will only visit each corner maybe once in 10m or so, whereas on a normal track you'd visit each corner maybe 5-7 times in a 10m session. That's why we love it!!!

generally you want to be either on the brakes or accelerating...minimise coasting.

Also start off slow and careful. Build up your speed as you experience the track more. Hey Robert, do you follow F1? They're capable of squaring off a corner to get early traction down. Probably not suitable for these cars, Idk?

Absolutely start off slow! Yes I follow F1. They do sort of square off early to get the power down not so much traction.

@@L2SFBC Yes, that's great. I love the undercut move when they go wide and get the power down before the inside car and pass them. Nearly didn't return this year after Hamiltons treatment.

Yes it was terrible that ending! Right guy won the championship but in the wrong way.

Robert, is there a point when you start to "memorize" the turns and it becomes easier?

Definitely yes, but you may well end up memorising the wrong lines if you don't look ahead, and you also won't react as quickly to flags or hazards or see what the driver in front is doing.
