After multiple years of no till and intensively managed cover crops, Matt goes to the field to dig up some cotton and soybean plants and see if Matt's efforts and building up his soil without using tillage are paying off or are there any restrictions that plants with taproots can't penetrate.

Very Good Well done Matt with your focus on Root health, soil health in regards to topsoil and Fragipan. Here in my area of Illinois we still have a lot of farmers doing extensive Conventional tillage for corn and soybeans. If some do No Till they tend to do No Till without Cover Crops.

I was watching a video that came out a few days ago and u brought up a comment someone left about videos being behind. Videos are great keep doing what you do. I watch yours and a lot of others. Yours are as good or better than most worth waiting for.

I would bet some of those wheat yield issues "spotty yields" are a sign of localized compaction. They cant get their roots down deep enough and lowers yield. Perhaps ?

My soil science professor in college, Dr Bob Duck, was the one that really opened my eyes to what was possible in the soil and what soil should look like

You will only build structure when you produced a larger root system than anything we've seen on your farm.

I had soo many questions and you answered them all. Are Daikon Radishes grown in Tennessee? Have you ever cash/cover cropped with any type radish?

We include them in our cover crop mixes that we plant in September. After September, there’s not enough growing season for them to do anything

@@griggsfarmsllcMight try a small plot where you plant Daikons and let them grow in spring to full growth. Then do a "dig" like in this video and see if they might speed up your ground health enough to make it worth doing a field of Daikon a year. If nothing else you could pick and sell them

I understand that radish’s store nitrogen and with winter kill releases it back into the soil for use of the next crop also leaves a path for water and roots to get deeper assisting deep soil structure building
