Rosie admitted later on in her life that every time they had a mystery guest on her show she was always aware of who it was. So it wasn’t so much a mystery at least not to Rosie but that’s OK it’s her show and it was a great show.

Spoiler - Rosie also always knew who the surprise guests were as she revealed a few years ago on a podcast.

99.9% of the time, the host/producers know ahead of time. It's really only a surprise for the audience. I say 99.9% of the time because there are things that happen that are completely unplanned. Like that time Mariah Carey was on a manic-bipolar episode, and randomly showed up to TRL and started stripping. Or that time Kanye was drunk, and ambushed the stage at the VMAs during Taylor Swift's acceptance speech. Or the time when Chris Rock made a joke at the Oscars, and Will Smith completely lost his mind, and slapped him right in the face. There's also that one time when 45 was in a debate, and was being asked about his comments towards women, and he of course replied "only Rosie O'Donnell."

@@joeybaseball7352 Try to focus: the comment said that Rosie knew who the surprise guests were ON HER SHOW. In other words, she KNEW it was Ricky Martin ahead of time. This has nothing to do with TRL, VMAs, or anything else. JUST THE ROSIE SHOW.

I was wondering this because before she knew it was Ricky Martin she said that "you kissed me again" and then she quickly corrected herself asking if they kissed before. So that seemed like a slip up

@@Mr21scott because these "surprises" are always staged. It's only a surprise for the audience. I was giving a few rare examples of things that weren't pre-staged.
