would be a perfect car for me. use the charger at home for trips around town and have a gas tank for out of town trips.

Where do you get 200 + mpg from? It does 380 miles on a 50 litre tank. That’s an 11 UK gallon tank so 380/ 11 = 34.5mpg or am I missing summat?

That MPG is incorrect and misleading. This also suggests the Mazda are afraid to provide correct values, i.e. it will be inefficient compared to say Honda Hev hybrid

why is it incorrect and or misleading?

@@EdenMotorGroup it is impossible for an international engine to reach that kind of efficiency. What the companies do is to report their electric mode mpg only which is misleading specially since the ev range is limited and no one cares. What people care is to see how much car can drive with a certain amount of fuel in tank. The real mpg should be around 20-30, considering the total range and the tank volume which is disastrous. With this trend Mazda soon will be out and irrelevant.

I’ve just visited the website and from what I understand, this is a vehicle you would normally use for commuting to work and back and hanging out with friends / family over the weekend in your city - so it gets charged every night and gives you 53 miles of range per day. I do a 34 mile round trip commute in London, so that makes perfect sense. The range extender exists for those relatively rare longer journeys where it would run out of EV range. You’re not meant to drive it long distances with the range extender running every single day - get a hybrid instead! I don’t know if the range extender charges the battery to full while also generating enough electrical power for the wheels to turn simultaneously. Technically, it’s possible that by the time you reach your destination, you also get a fully charged battery with 53 miles of EV available into the bargain - that’ll count towards the total mpg of the vehicle. The website explicitly states your mpg could vary according to how you utilise the vehicle - for commuting or mostly long distance. I suspect those figures come from city commuting more than anything else - not doing 200 miles a day as a company Rep.

Phev / range extenders can easily get very high mpg figures for someone who charges at home, and their commute is within the EV range. That is always on the basis that they dont do regular long-distance trips. Perfect for my use case, plus we already have a BEV and a 7kw charge point installed.

@@ashb8572 You are right, but companies add an ice engine to those Phevs for a reason. So better they do not hide part of the story

The MX-30 R-EV does not get 200+ MPG, that is literally impossible to manufacture an engine at the moment that can produce that type of range, the EV portion of the car only gets about 52 miles range, and the rotary boost the range up to 380 miles, the math doesn't add up with it being a 50-liter tank, realistically it would get somewhere around 35mpg not over 200+.

200 mpg is possible because the car blends battery power and gasoline power. However, those lofty figures do conveniently leave out the electrical portion. Miles per kWh would be more accurate, but most people wouldn't understand it.

@@matthewhardy8133 I don’t get it either, if you get 380 miles from the engine/battery that is crap combined fuel consumption. To make this combination work you need to be driving less than 50 miles return (probably more like 30 miles) between charges and then take the hit on long journeys with 1980’s type fuel consumption ! Actually that would work for me but given the leisurely 0-60 at 9.1 seconds, the less than roomy rear seat space, weird doors and poor boot space I struggle to think of a reason to buy it. Especially when the new extended range fully electric MG4 comes in at 330 miles range, with a dual motor version giving 0-60 at 3.8 secs for apparently £35k fully loaded !!!
