Join us on a brand new expedition as we continue our look at Inverted Coasters and the roller coaster history of Giovonola, this time looking at the world's largest traveling inverted roller coaster - EuroStar. A ride that was lost for 8 years.
This ride made by multiple European coaster companies that was bigger than both Batman and Nemesis. A true feat of engineering at the German fair.

I rode this at a fair in Germany in 2007. It was on my bucket list to ride it. The friends I was on the trip with knew I wanted to ride it but didn't tell me we were going to visit the fair it was located at. We went into the fair and I had no idea it was there until we at the top of the lift hill on a Mack mouse we were riding. I couldn't believe it. We rode it while it was raining. It was a damn rough ride but I am glad I got the credit. I only got to ride it once.

Same, got to ride it once, didnt know if I was moe thrilled that I was riding a ride that would be moved or the ride itself! Ever wonder why fair rides are scary it's cause I worked at one for a few years! YES I WAS A CARNIE FOR THREE YEARS! They DONT PAY WELL, also not sure if it was just the one who payed for the rides that I worked for I also was a lead on several rides after 6 years at a Six Flags theme parks once I moved to the states.... uh the fair's uhhhh " daily INSPECTION?" WAS STRANGLY JUST GET IT WORKING TYPE STUFF! While Six Flags actually had like 4 or 5 actual Engineers per a park these were usually just twacked out individuals fallowing a Ikea like put this part here then move to step two.... I honestly never saw a single person from either of said companies! But yea....

This was such an incredible coaster. One of the most intense coasters I've ridden with other highlights including the overbanked turn out of the vertical loop, an insanely tight turn out of the double-corkscrew and of course that ridiculous final helix. It had such an aura about it and it never failed to get the heart going, even before getting on the train. But yeah, it did end up being REALLY rough, and I have a high tolerance for rough rides.

Considering how complicated this ride was to engineer in a method which allowed for transportation and temp install, it's absolutely incredible that it's still around today. You hear stories of all these coasters trying to do things that had never been done before falling apart, falling out of favor, or easily being eclipsed / retired soon after. I did NOT expect to hear that this thing would still be in operation today. That's a damn good run for something that I'm sure many thought was impossible.

In the summer of 1995 I was passing through Düsseldorf daily and I stopped by the fairground every day only to finde Eurostar still closed. It finally opened when the fair was almost half over. I remember when the first train finally went through the loop for the first time, bystanders would collectively go "WHOAA!" as most people only THEN realized that the train was hanging below the tracks. Back then the majority of people had never heard of an inverted coaster. I had my first ride in the front row and it was AMAZING! I had been on Batman (SFGrAdv) two years and Nemesis one year before and I thought they were equal in intensity and thrill. The ride was intense and had one very rough spot in its first year. The overbanked turn (which I always considered as an inversion) would really smash your head into the OTSR. The zero-g-roll was amazing, but not as floaty as on the B&M inverts. Due to the space restrictions, the zero-g- had to be significantly shorter than the "original" and it had to enter and leave the element with a curve, which made the roll extremely disorienting. The only "problem" in the layout was the need for two long block-brakes which divided the experience into 3 different action moments. Where Batman and Nemesis where non-stop action, you would have these breathers on Eurostar. In later years the block brakes would almost stop the trains and it would really kill the fun. Especially that final helix was extremely strong and insane when the train would hit it at full speed. It was so close to the ground and surrounded by all those support beams and it would convince you that it would rip your shoes off. It was a coaster that needed to be ridden in the front row.

I rode this ride back in 2005. It is up today the roughest ride i rode. Honestly I was happy when it finished because I couldn't really enjoy it while being just busy not to bang my head too much on the shoulder restrains. You can compare the roughness to Wildcat in Hersheypark but imagine having multiple inversions und tight shoulder and head restrains.

Amusement part always gives me this giddy feeling and has for years. I feel like a little kid again. The only other thing that can do this for me is music. You know bands like Delta Parole, that music takes me back the most.

I am happy that I could ride it in 2008 in Hamburg. This Ride was the greatest experience so far at the Hamburg Fair since then. The following rollercoasters there were were just boring ("Teststrecke") and a sore to the eye.

@@colinmcnair1259 I've never seen a large traveling coaster at all! I don't think they're common in America, or at least not on the west coast. I've only ever seen those little kiddy coasters with a dragon or a worm. I tried googling it but everything but what I'm actually looking for comes up. Sad day

Amazing story, i don't know how this ride mustve been but Black Mamba is an awesome ride, and also gives some amazing G-forces in the end of the ride and it feels like ur never know what's coming on it. For me it's the best inverted coaster ive been on and if u say this Eurostar is larger, longer and has more G forces than that's really impressive even when it would'nt be a traveling coaster.

For some reason the track layout reminds me a lot of Vekoma’s Blackout/ Fire Whip (now in Beto Carrero World, Brazil) specially the two first elements after the lift hill

really quite amazing when you think of it...German & Swiss engineering at its finest!! I wonder if there’s a sort of shock absorbtion system by the wheel, sort of like a skateboard bushing or the air shocks that are in the front forks of mountain bike wheels...

This may have been suggested before... but in The Netherlands we are still grieving for Land van Ooit. You can find some stuff on youtube, but their concept was really nice. An old castle was bought to become the center of a theatre based theme park, where all employees lived in this (kids) fantasy styled fairy tale. With giants, and knights and a royal family and everything. Not much 'rides' but plenty of activities. They went bankrupt when a second park in Belgium failed to attract enough visitors and the park is now for sale I believe.

I always wondered about the finance situation with this coaster. The owner Oscar Bruch was a big businessman and had loads of other attractions and snack wagons that went around the country from fair to fair, so the guy was definitely loaded with money. But i always thought there is no way this coaster actually earns money, so much personal needed, all the trucks to carry it and only around 10-14 days per fair to actually open the coaster and earn money. I always felt the Bruch Family just operated this Coaster as a show off piece. Like a commercial, the biggest Fairground company in Germany and look at us with our biggest coaster, so we are the best type of deal.
