The Sabotage Of Sebastian Vettel

Sebastian Vettel joined Ferrari in 2015 after a drop off in 2014. Sebastian won 4 straight world championships with Red Bull from 2010 until 2013 and his move to Ferrari was billed to be a big one with the goal of a 5th championship in red. It was all set up for Sebastian to follow in the footsteps of his idol and friend, Michael Schumacher. Unfortunately, the dream wouldn't happen how Ferrari fans had hoped. With 2017 and 2018 being the best shot Seb had, it just wasn't meant to be. This could arguably be blamed on driver error, but that's a discussion for another day. While this went on, Charles Leclerc was making his name in the feeder series and then in 2018 with Alfa Romeo in Formula 1. In 2019 Ferrari would promote Charles Leclerc to Ferrari and the battle between who was number 1 would begin. Was Sebastian sabotaged in order to justify Charles Leclerc as humber 1 driver at Ferrari? This is episode V of a conspiracy.

Was that the race where Seb was trying to talk to his engineer/strategist and wasn't getting a response? If it is I think Seb was ignored a couple of times before the guy finally got back to him, and everyone watching on race on TV got to hear the whole thing 🤣, at which point it was probably to late to discuss whatever it was Seb wanted to talk about anyway. If people think all it was was embarrassing for them, I know that's not what you said, then Ferrari got off way to easy because it was a lot more than just embarrassing.

Their pitstops for Seb were definitely atrocious and sabotage worthy, but I don't think they purposedly sabotaged his car, and it was a knock-on effect of making the car more power dependent then aero dependent. Because Seb's problems started in 2018 when Charles was still at Sauber. Seb looks like a driver who is more comfortable in a downforce heavy car, which is the reason his worst finish in the wdc in an Adrian Newey car is P2 Edit: Forgot 2014 happened, but he still got P5 that year

Yeah, honestly, it was hard to watch Seb last year. Although I never doubted his skill, I was never his biggest fan, but the last few years have seen his attitude humbled slightly, and he's become one of my favourites. As far as conspiracy goes, it's one of those things in motorsports. It wouldn't be surprising if it was true, and it wouldn't be surprising if it wasn't. Big teams and manufacturers have always cheated, bent rules and generally acted in unethical ways, but at the same time, Seb was definitely struggling to deal with the pressure at the time, and his mental state may have affected his performance. I can't say which one is true, or if it a mixture of both, but either way, I'm glad Seb is finding his groove again at AM.

Ferrari's problem has not been their drivers. Their problem has always been the management which is very toxic (GSC Ferrari also bodyshamed Seb) Now Ferrari has restructured since 2020 and there are new recruitment so let's hope their situation improves. But we need another Schumacher like person to politically control Ferrari. We need an employee and a driver that can control and get used to the political atmosphere and make it to his/her advantage. SEB tried to do this so many times but that stupid Arrivabene ruined it. If anything Arrivabene did not let Seb's biggest strength (car development) shine.

@@anshulshah1219 I'm not saying Arrivabene _didn't_ prefer Kimi over Seb because, just like you really, i have no way of knowing that, unless you're some sort of insider or a close friend of either, but from the outside that really didn't seem to be the case. As a person, maybe, but still. For starters, it was Arrivabene's policy in general to not use team orders, (he stated as much on multiple occasions, and even got flak for it), instead preferring to let both drivers race, and when he was forced to use them they aaaalways were in favour of Seb, with Hungary 2017 being the first example that comes to mind: Kimi could have easily passed Seb (steering issues) but was ordered not to do so, having to act as his bodyguard against the mercs till the end of the race. Even strategy-wise Seb had top priority, but that's only natural when he's the one fighting for championships. Honestly your claim doesn't make much sense.

By 2020 they had decided Leclerc was the future and Vettel was the past. They developed the car around Leclerc's driving style which Vettel struggled to adopt. It didn't help that the team seemingly sabotaged Vettel with poor strategies and pit stops throughout the year. Leclerc shining while Vettel struggled would show the world Ferrari's struggles we're Seb's fault, and publicly justify cutting one of the most successful drivers of all time. The flaw in their plan was Aston Martin's signing of Seb. With his multiple podiums in a midfield team and strong performances at street circuits, he is showing he still has it. Looking forward to seeing how well he does with the 2022 machinery.

Did ferrari build a car to fit Carlos in 2021? Ferrari did make a lot of mistakes, but they also always had seb's back. The countless sacrifices that they made to kimi's race, just to give Seb a fighting chance. Even when they accidently undercut Leclerc in Singapore, not once did they tell seb to redress the position. Vettle is a good driver, he made mistakes too, and ever since germany 2018, his confidence just hasn't been the same. And why would ferrari sabotage a driver that they had already parted ways with? they needed ever point that they could get in 2020.

@frosty snow you can't use USA 2018 as an example, Kimi was in a position to win the race and vettle wasn't, vettel had already spun and ruined his race on the first lap. There are more instances of kimi being sacrificed than vettel being sacrificed. Monaco 2017 and austria 2017 are just some instances that come to mind, and there are more where that came from. The tow in monza was an accident, even vettel was pissed that he gave the two to kimi.

tbh most people say seb failed in 2018 which is partly true. but people seem to forget that ferrari had numerous blunders in strategy in 17 and 18. even if seb didn't commit those mistakes in the 2nd half of 18, I think Lewis would've still won cuz he was consistent af. also while ferrari and merc were on par with each other in the 1st half (tho i think ferrari edges them). in the 2nd half mercedes outdragged ferrari in development. on top of seb's errors, winning 2018 was really gonna be a struggle. 2017 imo is more painful, seb had minimal errors throughout the year. could even say he was the driver of the season and worthy champion. there was nothing else seb could've done with that 2017 ferrari. it was quick but not as quick as the merc, if not for the reliability failures in malaysia, japan as well as the incidents in singapore, uk, and canada. i think he could've won it by a thread of a needle.

@@sushantpatil9448 Alonso? No I don't think so. The singapore has always been regarded as a racing incident you know. Could it have been avoided, probably yes. But racing is racing. There has been more errors from Max and Lewis this year than Seb's errors in 2017. Also, to say entirely is already wrong in it's self. Seb did the move to protect from Max, it was the same move that Alonso did a few years back. It just so happens that Kimi had a brilliant start. Obviously Kimi had no knowledge of Seb trying to block Max and Seb didn't know Kimi was up the inside either. By the Max realizes that Kimi was alongside it was too late. Even as a Max fan that was merely a racing incident. You might be forgetting Japan and Malaysia wherein reliability cost him dearly. Canada too where Max overtook Seb aggressively at the start and chopped bits of his front wing off and relegated him to the back. Ferrari was the one who cost him the title in 2017 not the other way around. That car was nowhere near the Mercedes.

As a Ferrari fan, no, it wasn't entirely Seb's fault. Ferrari also shared some unforgivable mistakes. Like in 2018 Chinese Gp if I remember correctly, Bottas tried to undercut Vettel. Ferrari should have brought Vettel to pit immediately. Instead, They made him to do another lap. Also in 2018, Q3 in Japan, Ferrari made the choice to go out with inter tyres when the track was still fricking dry. They thought the rain was coming early, but it wasn't. For the toxic part, yeah sometimes it's irritating to see someone just expressing hate towards the others, or even their own drivers/idols. But it's not just Ferrari fans, you know what is happening with Verstappen and Hamilton Fans right now. They're fighting for the title, just like Ferrari when fighting againts Merc for the title. The tensions and emotions were and are boilingly high, and no exception for the fans as well. It's part of a competition. If I see a toxic comment, just ignore it. Disconnect from Twitter if I need to. But, let me say this, not all Ferrari Fans, or Hamilton Fans, or Verstappen Fans, or Vettel Fans are toxic. Btw, I think Ferrari posted a Happy Birthday post for Vettel in Twitter some months ago. Sorry for the long comment though, it's just my opinion. I wouldn’t say that driver errors were the main factor for the championship loss. Just see how many errors are Hamilton and Verstappen doing this year. Clearly when the car performance is matching both drivers need to overdrive to stay in front and by overdriving they make errors. In 2017/18 Ferrari had cars that were matching Mercedes, but only in some of the 20ish circuits. This meant just one driver had to overdrive.

2017 is definitely not on driver error... Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, 3 races where Seb lost about 50 points due to things out of his control. Also Silverstone he got a puncture in the end and finished 7th and in Canada he was involved in a racing incident at T1 where Max clipped his front wing (and yet Ferrari didn't realize it straight away that it was broken).

Thank you for this video. I do believe that what Vettel said was true. He didn’t just say it once or twice - he told different journalists over the season that his car was different from Leclerc’s. I’m not sure if anyone remembers, but Vettel was on pace and even slightly faster than Leclerc in the first 3 races last season. Then his car broke down during free practice in Silverstone, and right after that Vettel fell behind by around half a second from Leclerc until Turkey 2020. Binotto stayed behind in Maranello for the Turkey and Bahrain races, and suddenly Vettel outqualified Leclerc again in both races. Ferrari even came out with a statement after saying that Vettel was now more comfortable with the SF1000. Binotto came back for the Sakhir GP, and once again Vettel was running ahead of Leclerc during the free practice sessions. Then the team suddenly made the call to switch him to an older engine for “precautionary measures” before qualifying, and we saw Leclerc getting ahead of Vettel that weekend. The same happened in Abu Dhabi - Vettel never closed up his gap to Leclerc and was outqualified once again in his final race for Ferrari. Interestingly, he told the Dutch media after the qualifying session in Abu Dhabi that he was pleased with his laps and felt that he did a good job. He then backed up his earlier statement by saying that no other team in the paddock has such a huge delta between the drivers. If you put the events that happened altogether, along with what Vettel said across the season, it’s actually quite obvious to see what happened in 2020 with Sebastian and Ferrari.

People need to get it real for once, is not that drivers cracks on the pressure of Ferrari which is real to some extent, but you are capable to do whatever the machinery let you do. True, there is no excuses for Seb around 2019 and 2020, but Ferrari as a team never was even close to run a smooth operation as Mercedes did in those years of domination even with the drama with Rosberg and Hamilton they almost always did the right thing, when Ferrari always dropped the ball in stategy decitions and pitstops even when Seb suggested other ways. Guys, if Alonso and Vettel (6 WDC combined) didn't won the championship is because maybe is something wrong within Ferrari as a Team, subpar machinery, bad work enviroment, bad strategies, too much politics inside, living up to something they weren't at the moment, etc. I'm no personal fan of Seb, but the guy can drive despite his current bad luck, also this year in AM has been not great, but better than I expected given the current situation of lack of testing, bad design concept from AM, etc. The guy did podium 2 times this year in that shitbox that sit currently almost at the end of the midtable. Not signing for the conspiracy, but Ferrari could have won at least 1 or 2 titles with Alonso and/or Vettel if they solve their internal shit

Great video, but the focus in the 2019 season is the wrong approach, in my humble opinion. By the end of 2018, Ferrari confidence in Vettel evaporated, and the Leclerc appointment was the writing in the wall. The real misteries of this failed marriage are in the inner dynamics during the 2017 and mainly, 2018 season. Why Raikkonen got the tow in Monza 2018 qualifying, for example? And many more situations.
@milkshakemuncher
@milkshakemuncher 2 жыл бұрын
Ferrari pressured Schuey to leave, bringing in what was then a very fast Raikkonen for 2007 and saying if you stay, Massa will be out of a job, Kimi will be your teammate and given the ok to fight you on track, no more number 1 status. They first pressured him with a fast Massa, then upped it for 2007, Schuey said ok, under these conditions I'm out, partly also for Massa to keep his Ferrari seat. Ferrari mentality is that no driver is bigger than Ferrari. Fed up with the reports 2010 to end of 2013 that they only scored so highly because of Alonso, doing things that very few drivers could dream of doing in that car, they pressured Alonso by again hiring Kimi, afterall it did work the first time. Well Alonso took on that challenge, stood tall and whooped Raikkonen. Alonso left after being approached by Ron Dennis and Honda, the dream of McLaren Honda dominating again. They signed 4 time champ Vettel, then after their car was no good and he hadn't delivered a title, internally they blamed him and squeezed the pressure. Arrivabene was let go from Ferrari because he let the drivers race in 2018 and never put full support behind Vettel and make Kimi yield. Upper Ferrari believed this cost them the title, also the fact that Vettel was easily more often than not, beating Kimi and potentially cruising. Enter fast hard charging Leclerc. Afraid of being fired like Arrivabene, Binotto favoured Vettel for most of 2019, which was not the right call. Had they favoured Leclerc early on, the title chase may have been more interesting. Anyway, the on track skirmish the two Ferrari boys delivered to each other saw Ferrari finally siding with Leclerc, so they pushed Vettel out by not even offering him contract negotiations. They have simply pressured every main driver since 2005. It's not a matter of if you'll be pressured to leave at Ferrari, it's a matter of when they'll apply the pressure.

Ferrari turning their attention more to Charles and giving him the big contract makes perfect to sense. He was 22 at the time and had outperformed Vettel when the car and team was favouring Vettel. The idea that Vettel was being sabotaged is a stretch as well. They would not want to throw away constructors standings bonus money for the sake of making a driver look poor and trying to justify the backing of another, when it was already justified. The reason that Seb was poor last year was mainly due to the SF1000’s lack of rear grip and balance. Vettel likes a car with a strong rear and his adaptability is quite poor. Leclerc can adapt to a car better than Vettel can and doesn’t mind a car with poor rear stability as much.

Tbh what happened to him happened to a lot of drivers who drive for Ferrari, he cracked under the pressure, he was a 4 time world champion who went to Ferrari and Ferrari expected him to preform, and the pressure got to him, but thank he got into Aston Martin and has a lot of that pressure off his shoulders

Great video honestly But the theory is silly,just because Vettel was good in Turkey and some few races,while in Aston Martin hes slower than Stroll on average and amazing on 3-4 tracks,Ferrari didnt sabotaged Vettel ,why would they? half of the team loved him till the end and he did so,maybe he didnt like Binotto vise versa but he is struggling himself,hes not the old Sebastian in Aston also,aparr from some races,i think his performance is fading away with the current cars

This is a great video but there is some information missing that you haven't talked about in this video. First things first, Sebastian got his name as the young star from Red Bull. He had close ties to Marko & Horner and had a dominance in 2010-2013. The ferrari car was good in 2010 & 2012 but there were aspects that the design was becoming worse. Then 2014 hit and for both Alonso and Vettel this was a difficult year. For a fresh start, Vettel joined Ferrari. Fans were happy about it and it could definitely get close to a title fight with Mercedes, which came in 2017-2018. But in 2018 there were 2 stories: The first was that Vettel made some large driver errors. First there was the Chinese GP with Max spinning him, who got more angry at him. Then the title fight with Hamilton came close. They were both getting into the lead of the championship. And then hit the German GP and the Italian GP (after a spin due to Hamilton). The championship was decided after that, with even some other driver errors in Japan & USA. The second was the upcoming talent Charles at Sauber/Alfa Romeo in 2018. 2019 was also a promising year with the young talent joining ferrari and the experience of Vettel. But the team wasn't ready for 2 highly talented drivers. There were races that it was 1 sided and races that they were 2 sided. The relationship between Charles & Sebastian also wasn't great from the start. Then Brazil 2019 hit and that was the moment the team was going to decide something in order to change the whole team. What some people not know is that just after the season concluded, Sebastian was told by the team that he was going to be dropped next year (end of 2020 season). They literally said to him that they were going to focus on Charles from 2019 onwards. So that meant that the whole 2020 season (and they also confirmed this in the media before the season even started) was going to be really bad for Sebastian. Then also the car was nerfed (especially the engine) because there was suspicion in the paddock about the 2019 wins after Hungary (where they picked up pace for some reason). This makes races like the 2020 Turkish GP so much more special for Sebastian. Now it's already different because Carlos has a better relationship with Charles, Ferrari and the design is coming back up. Sebastian also is in a better envirement now with Aston Martin. People, mark my words. If the Aston Martin next year has a good design/ performance, I'm sure Sebastian is going to be between Norris/ Ricciardo this year. But that's F1, the design of the car and the great performance of the car (reliability, aerodynamics, good chassis, right balance) can benefit/ nerf the car so much that you get podiums or even wins or get only in Q3 sometimes during the whole season.

Interesting In 2018 Marcus Ericsson who drove in the same team with Leclerc was noticing how Leclerc was faster than him in the straights. They had Ferrari engines and I do seriously believe Ferrari gave Leclerc a better engine than Ericsson. After last qualifying of the year in abu dhabi Ericsson gave a peak "It's interesting how Charles has purple sectors in sector 2 which is 2 straights and 1 chicane". Racing has never been fair and if there is one team who takes politics too seriously it would be a certain Italian team.

I honestly think that ferarri screwed him over completely. Sure, I think there might've been a drop off in his performance, but I really don't think it can be as severe as it was. Now that he's at a more positive team, he's doing pretty well, even if he needs to drive that tractor.

Driver error can in part be attributed to ferrari in my view, if you consider his on track abandonment, creating his own strategy or having his strategy botched, what do you think the engineers were behaving like as well. I wouldn't be surprised if car set up was a sissphyian uphill battle for Sebastian.

For me it seems, as if there is a major internal problem at Ferrari setting extreme negative pressure on the drivers. Vettel, Leclerc and Sainz are all great drivers and do/did in a fast Ferrari many more mistakes than the average. From year to year at Ferrari Vettel did more mistakes. 2015 was his best season at Ferrari, 2017 was also very strong. In 2018 and 2019 he did way to many mistakes, but was still quick. I think he tried to force things, that were just not possible. I think, Ferrari needs to treat their drivers better to win a championship. Mercedes showed with Hamilton how to do it.

Charle’s 2019 car, when tested by FIA, showed Ferrari was tricking the fuel flow control system, injecting more fuel than legal during the small time frame the sensor was inactive, and also injecting oil to the combustion. Ferrari wanted Seb gone after 2019, they had an arguably faster driver that was much cheaper, but Seb wasn’t going to walk away from guaranteed $57M x 2020 season. That’s why Ferrari tried to ruin Vettel’s career, detuning his car. Ferrari was so bad in 2020 because their car was built on the premise that their engine was by far the most powerful and they worked to create a lot of aerodynamic downforce. When the engine cheating devices were banned, they were left with an underpowered engine and it was already too late to modify the aerodynamics, that were producing a lot of drag too.

Seb was definitely sabotaged lol and it all relates to the engine. With the settlement they had to rework their engine and they knew they would be uncompetitive. It would be determined that the lower the f1 teams would rank the previous season they would get more wind tunnel testing for their 2021/2022 new era car. Why do you think they left him out on his own? Terrible stops, no strategy, no support, yet leclerc is the golden boy. They threw Seb under the bus even though he had brought them in over half a billion dollars to them with championship points and wins, and the most wins since schumacher. It was disgraceful what they did to him

Get real. Seb is an F1 driver, you don't get a seat in this sport by being a nice guy. Not to mention loopholes and bending rules is the name of the game, and even with a "dodgy car" it's not as if Ferrari had been stellar. They felt 2017-2018 was their chance and that Seb had failed to deliver. Then the next year they see an amazing home grown talent take the fight to him and win, once they started bickering it was a no brainer who they were keeping on the payroll.

You don't become a shitty driver all on a sudden and then outqualify Ferrari with AMR in some races this season. Remember that SV said there were fights I wish I hadn't taken. Regarding Ferrari's secret settlement with FIA, it was also clear from a statement by SV that he didn't like the path taken by Ferrari in 2019. My hunch is that these are the fights he took with Ferrari but ultimately realized not worth it. If you still look at Ferrari's performance in 2021, they gained momentum in high downforce circuits like Monaco and Paul Ricard. But that performance did not last long. I had this initial suspect in 2019 that instead of rectifying the flaws in car design philosophy, Ferrari instead took a short cut with PU, which referring back to what SV said, the same path that he did not like. What kind of a team designs a car blistering fast in straight lines only to lose more in slow and medium corners? Ferrari. And this flawed philosophy still hurts them. Since Monaco 2021 they tried to fix tire temperature and degradation issues, which cost them performance rest of the season. Its like an undergrad student's project, he fixes one issue only to open more bugs somewhere else, because the fundamental philosophy was wrong to begin with.

Vettel was a beast in the red bull era, very max like, he joined ferrari to emulate his icon but it seemed in the time between his negotiations and actual transfer , the people he was close with (montezemolo etc.) Were out of the team and so he was left with a version of a team he wasn't familiar with which ultimately bit him in the later years when they basically wrote him off. Remember, ferrari only won in the 2000s because of schumi, brawn and todt. They were resilient as a team and if even one of them was absent, I am sure even Michael would've suffered the same fate. Ferrari has always been a glorified mediocre team. Look at the history books, it's about time we stop putting them on a pedestal. Eventually , all the disappointment will get to your mentality, even a good driver can go to shit when they race for the Italian team. Clearly they're drivers, not politicians.

@Spike S Bruh over 70 years? I'm not discrediting their achievements, but if you have been in the sport since it's conception, you are bound to win at some point. They are a glorified mediocre team who have shined through some thick skinned drivers over the years. Drivers who have managed to cope with their toxicity. For being the team with so much experience, they sure suck at strategy, car development, and driver treatment. Many good drivers have been testament to this fact. Sure you can have bad times , that's life , but don't go around flaunting your 'oldest constructor'/ 'heritage' bs when you're barely beating Pierre gasly in the red bull b team.

I personally think it's as simple as the Ferrari was a difficult car to drive at peak level, and charles managed to adapt better than Vettel did for this specific car. The team themselves would of been aware of this from pre-season. There will never be both drivers on teams getting equal opportunity and assistance from the team, they will always prioritise the driver that data is showing is getting the most out of the cars.
