Costa Concordia was a cruise ship that was bigger than the Titanic, the largest ship of her time and exactly after 100 years, the ship sank just like the Titanic. On a cruise route of the Mediterranean Sea, the ship hit something and drowned. It took 6 years to salvage and scrap this wreck. But even with such advanced technology and a head start of 100 years from the largest cruise ship disaster, why did this ship sink? Why was the captain of this ship jailed for 16 years? 1500 people lost their lives on the Titanic compared to Costa Concordia where 35 lost their lives. So the biggest in size goes to the Costa Concordia but not in lives, so the biggest disaster in my opinion goes to Titanic.

Eh, sort of. Great Eastern was way ahead of her time, but Titanic was pretty much on par with other ships of the time, just bigger and a little better. Had she survived, she would have been quickly outmatched by the ruthless ocean liner industry, much in the same way Olympic was.

can we imagine comparing a 100 year old ship with almost the recent 2012 ships, its like comparing todays mercedes s class with those times vintage cars its crazy you cannot compare the two. But still it is surprising that even after being 100 years old its stil quite comparable with modern day ships. And thats is why titanic is unique and the most lovable

Very well described. Like technical specifications, Maritime terminology. I am a Maritime professional. I had seen this ship at berth in Italy when I did call at one of Italian port. But in commercial shipping the fact that all navigational equipments were turned off is never done, no matter how experienced you are or no matter how many times you transitted the same route. Navigational equipments are basically brain of a ship, with all equipments integrated for various information for the safe navigation of a ship. It is criminal to do that. Everything is recorded, like airplane's black box. Hard to digest. Very unfortunate.

Underwater wrecks or reefs are there on charts(maps) and are not seen in radar. The captain may have had his navigation systems running but still could’ve hit the reef.
