Maybe that’s true. But you’re still accountable for what you put into your body. Being overweight is one thing. Being obese, that’s definitely a “you problem”. A lot of people are surrounded by these unhealthy foods every day and find a way to manage. You can’t blame everything entirely on a product. The consumer holds some accountability.

This was fascinating. I had not previously heard of Nauru. I have been to Hawaii a couple of times and did notice that many of the native people tended towards the extremes, being either very fit or very obese. Hawaii also became a recipient of Spam as a survival food during World War II when supplies were tight. Now it is considered a native Hawaiian staple food, which was never the original purpose.

I literally watched my steer grazing in a pasture 4 miles from my house and eat from my garden. I've eliminated virtually all processed food from my diet and absolutely NO sodas or sugar drinks at 63 yo i dont take any medication at all and i feel great and love to run my sideline hobby business doing leather repairs, boot and shoe and handbag repair. Just focus on eliminating all ultra processed foods and stay active is the key to good health.

One of the factors you didn’t mention, is how the ‘bad meat’ is forced on the islands through trade agreements. If you delve into the trade agreements Nauru had/has there are elements in it that require them to take lamb flap & turkey tail. Samoa tried to get that part of the TPPA taken out for the sole reason that their people are becoming obese due to the types of food they are forced to take. Naturally the other trading partners, America in particular, said they would exclude Samoa if they didn’t take the crap meats. Large countries control all means of outside income & investment so they can easily strong arm small countries into agreeing to things they don’t want.

When I lived in the USA i noticed drastic cultural differences in this regard compared to my native country of Finland. I was skinny and ate healthy and worked out, I enjoyed walking and exercise. People asked me why I would eat healthy and exercise, I was skinny after all. I had no idea how to respond to this. I did not have a car so I would often have to walk for several miles to the nearest supermarket. I liked going to Walmart in the middle of the night because people could not see me walking and would not shout things at me. During the day I combatted unwanted harrassment by dressing as a man. Here no one bats an eye if I walk 20km a day for pleasure and to run errands. They might be impressed but no one thinks that I am mental because of that.

Hello, I'm the researcher mentioned near the start, offering here a few corrections. There's a lot to like in this video (esp. the way it tries to look beyond individual responsibility for nutritional health), but some corrections are also needed: - It's not guano; it's marine phosphate. As far as I can tell, the bird sh!t myth can trace to an anti-Nauru PR campaign that coincided with the ICJ case for rehabilitation of mined lands. - Why is it unusual that a nation might invest in things like international property, cars, universal dental and healthcare? - Colonial authorities were careful to ensure educational attainment of islanders was nowhere near that of their own nations. Imagine how this might tip the scales for companies and governments from nations like Australia for decades following Nauru's political independence... - Important not to confound national wealth with individual wealth. These are not the same. For the most part, individual wealth on Nauru, even in the nation's wealthy days, was pretty modest apart from a few big landowners and a few corrupt people. Mostly comes down to how mining royalites are distributed. - There is no evidence of farming in the past. Or breadfruit. Pandanus, fish and Noddy birds, yes. - Positive energy balance is not a fundamental law when it comes to human physiology, in fact no proof exists and it is likely more complex. -The quality of Spam has changed over time too (fun fact: tins of corned beef used to contain the highest quality cuts of meat!). - Quoting me, you are not far off, just please bear in mind I was specifically talking about fresh veg and availability on a low budget at a specific moment in time. - Nauru isn't in Polynesia, it is in Micronesia. Although those divisions are colonial and not terribly useful anyway. - We actually don't know much about Nauruan physical activity in the past so can't claim that the nation is more sedentary than the past. - The "laziness" lines, as far as I can tell, trace to the same negative PR campaign I mention above. There is no evidence that the people of Nauru are lazy. - The poster at the end is from one of my papers and the claim about the kids who made it is not really true. It does have a neat story though! - The selection of images and footage only shows part of the story (and some isn't Nauru); for a different take, for instance, check out some footage of the Aussie Rules Footy matches on the island; the athleticism is incredible. Always happy to try to answer any questions if useful.

Fishing and eating raw fish, fruits from the trees etc and not the trash from stores like sugar, oil, flour etc. Let alone fast food. People, wake up, since all these researchers and so called “experts” flooded the world, everything is just getting worse and worse. Go back to your roots and native diet and you are going to be fit and healthy. Use common sense.

I am amazed by all the effort, time and research you put into your videos. It clearly shows your passion and dedication to a healthier lifestyle. It's all about decision making and making sustainable choices that has a major and positive impact long term. Last but not least... giving the middle finger to the food industry who continuously don't make an effort to make healthier food cheaper and easily accessible.

A lot of people living in these places shown at the 5:00 mark were introduced to this dietary lifestyle during WW2. For example, the Japanese had captured the Marshall Islands and treated the islanders horribly, when the U.S. eventually arrived and kicked the Japanese out, the islanders were given rice, spam and other foods that weren't perishable. They fell in love with spam and consume it to this day along with the natives of Guam and Samoa. The people were so grateful for the American assistance and so trusting of their good intent that they allowed them to conduct nuclear tests on their atolls, one atoll, Enewetak was so radioactive it was covered in an 18 inch deep concrete dome called The Runit Dome. Between 1946 and 1958, the United States detonated 67 bombs there, some nuclear, some biological. Since the government couldn't test their munitions over areas populated by white people the optimum course was to test them in the middle of the Pacific Ocean where only brown people lived. I know the video is about diet, I just had to mention that.

Heart-breaking ! Everyone who profited from the phosphate industry needs to re-wild and restore Nauru's environment ...and this is not just an evironment crime , but a crime against an innocent people ill prepared for Capitalisms brutal and ruthless forces. The world should assist to right this great wrong ! NOTE- obesity isn't just a metter of calories in and calories out . The impact of insulin is vital. This is why having a calorific diet high in fat and moderate in protein and very low in carbs can trigger incredible weight loss , especially if breakfast is not consumed which creatures a greater fasting period with no insulin spike. While a Keto diet is not one to be maintained for life it could save the people of Nauru
