THIS STORY:
On October 27th, 1988, in the early evening, Marie called her mom. She said that her boyfriend Peter was coming over and she was going to break up with him - friendship or otherwise.
Marie's mother Anne asked her to call her back afterwards.
Marie never called back,
but Peter did.
He said they had fight and Marie’s keys fell out of the car. That she decided to walk home to vent her frustration.
But that's not what really happened...

A heartbreaking story. 💔 I'm picturing poor Anne, visiting her daughter's grave every day. Absolutely died of a broken heart, grieving Marie, whose life was robbed. We will remember this family, thank you Ron. Rest in peace 🙏

So amazing!!! My son, who passed away in 2021, LOVED Louis Armstrong & his favorite song was "It's a Wonderful World". He even named his dog Satchmo. I had the same question Marie's mother asked "Why??" He also told me "Mom, listen to the words & you will understand". He was only 38 when he passed away from a DVT. He had so much life left to live & I know just how Ann felt. One of the most relatable stories you have ever produced & your stories are always excellent. Thank you for sharing this one. Wow, I guess I needed to cry tonight. My heart is broken for Marie and her mom. I believe mom died of a broken heart too. Those daily visits tell a story in itself. RIP to the whole family back together again

This is truly a tragic story, can't imagine how frantic her mother must have been. This is horrible that the justice didn't fit the crime, to think he is walking around free. I pray this family is at peace. Thank you Ron for telling their story.

Truly sad, difficult that this beautiful girl died , her life taken away from her, what a waste , she was beautiful smart , she had everything , loving parents , going to a great school , the one thing taken from her was time -I have no words to express my sadness for this loving family they are no longer here , but they are together in another world , they are together bless them RIP mom dad and their daughter🌹

My big brother Kenneth R Chavez (Baca) (27 yrs) was killed on Oct 3, 1991 in Santa Fe NM. His girlfriends jealous ex boyfriend killed him. I was in college in Albuquerque NM that morning, when my father called the school, they came and got me out of class, and my life... our lives changed forever. This life can be brutal yet so very beautiful all at the same time.. Love you Kenny.... always.

What a sad story. Such a beautiful girl. 😢 We have a horrible system in USA. This monster is out living and breathing the fresh air while Maria is buried 7 feet underground. Our system failed Maria but he will meet his maker or go straight to hell. Thank you Ron.

Very sad story, Anne's love for her daughter was deep. I would imagine Anne and Michael could not have children so they adopted Marie, and gave her all the love as if she was their own biological child and then some more. Here comes a maniac snuffs her life away (still happens right?) and he is free? incredible. RIP Pompilio family. Your two roses 💐💕

It’s weird to hear a stranger talk about your own family, but thank you for bringing some light to the story. They’re very much not forgotten. We still talk about them and I have some of Marie’s things that I’ll never let go of. She absolutely should still be here and will always be in my heart. I’ll never forget when my uncle would talk about her and as a young girl he would tell me to never break up with a boy alone. He told her to come home to do it but of course you never think something like this would happen. RIP Marie. You’re always on my mind. 🖤

That’s so sad that mom came to visit her daughter for 9 years until she could be with her in Eternity . She was a mom who missed her little girl that’s she raised since she was a little baby. I feel so sad for mom

As I listened to the story and read the names and dates at the same time, I thought , WAIT, WAIT ??!!at 9:52 there is a baby picture of which was disturbing and sad. The camera did adouble take but without a beat on you went on to tell Marie's story. So much sadness for family especially her poor mother. May they both Rip.

you have to try to imagine that my eye is not where the camera lens is. I couldn't see the child's picture when I was live shooting this...the camera rig I have (the cinematic camera is very large and on a long gimbal stabilizer, 18" long--its NOT a cellphone camera) has the camera itself down by my waist.... and with that pic, the camera leans position was near the ground. it is actually is an art that I have developed to try to make it all appear like you are looking thru my eyes.

The baby in the picture died prematurely, I’ve had a few friends who’ve lost their babies this way. They took pictures and this is what the babies have looked like, not fully developed, but enough to know it’s a baby.

Selfish to the extreme this guy is. As true love overcomes a multitude of sins. True love would have given Marie all the consideration freedom space and time she needed. This guy had no love for Marie and was only out for himself. And she was robbed of her life because he couldn't get what he wanted. Absolutely appalling to know this guy is out free to enjoy life!

The vision of her mother sitting by her grave is so heartbreaking 💔 My family played that very song at my fathers funeral. He had that outlook on life. Everything was wonderful in life even as sick as he was he still managed to see the beauty.

Both Marie and Anne sound like wonderful people. That bond they had was truly special. When I worked at the City Museum and I was cave roam, I would always play that song on the organs computerized song list.

So sad how she grieved every day of the rest of her life so severely that disease jumped on her and made her gravely ill. Grief and worry and sadness weaken the health and the body and allow for disease and illness to take hold. It is disgusting that this obviously was premeditated murder and he is out amongst society. Just a few years in prison is not paying for the crime of taking an innocent life. He was possessive and obsessed and whomever he targets next is going to be his next victim. And the blame will be on the justice system for such a light sentence.

This is a sad story, but on the wall it says the mom died in 1997 and the daughter in 1998. Shouldn't the date for the mom be 2007? And why was the killer released so early? He could go on to stalk and kill future girlfriends.

The story is so heartbreaking. God please keep your love wrapped around this family. I too am upset the murderer is free! I have learned the onset of schizophrenia is at about the age he murdered Marie. He sounded looney tunes! I am NOT excusing him! Rather I hope that since he has been freed, is he using psychiatric help. If this late in his life he again harms someone, the justice system is to blame. Freeing him was wrong and created a risky situation. In my opinion, he is trash. Not all schizophrenics murder! So he is crazy trash! I hope he takes his meds, for the sake of other people!
