For several years, the Spitfire Symphonic Orchestra has found it’s place in many a composer’s template. With string, brass and woodwinds sections, it has been a great all in one solution for composers creating booth cinematic and realistic scores. Now, Spitfire Audio has made some quality-of-life changes to the Symphonic Orchestra to create a more streamlined yet expansive version of this timeless collection. Instead of having to buy all three sections separately, now the Spitfire Symphony Orchestra features the three original sections with the addition of their percussion, harp and piano. There is also new legato programming from the inspiration Andy Blaney and a new and improved GUI. While also being significantly smaller at 345GB in size, the new collection is significantly easier on the wallet too! And yes, it does include Masse!

@@StraatBil it sure seems like it. Much more content and runs on Kontakt which is an advantage in my opinion as you can batch re-save and can work with a regular hard drive.

How consistent are the delay compensations and uniformity between articulations?

BTW: the string samples sound much better now in my opinion. It seems they left in a lot of the original noise that might have been edited out in the last version that sounded too processed.

Thank you for the review. I must say I'm very excited by this new offer, could be a nice complement to my BBC SO "black". 4:33 You can now resize the Kontakt 7 window; at least on MacOS (check in the "view" scroling menu). Not a proper resizing with a handle although, just size presets. Better than nothing

Thanks for the info! I’m on Windows and I’m new to Kontakt 7 I guess having just upgraded my controller. I clicked around but could resize the preset window but it doesn’t expand the column where the presets are written to make them viewable. You can fit more presets there though. I found earlier Komplete Kontrol perfect for windows and the different views which snap everyone into the same same window. I hope it’s addressed. After making the video I did see I could have used the traditional Kontakt browser view and opened everything in the same size window so for future videos that is what I’ll do! I really appreciate the advice so thank you very much! :)

@@thesampleist Well, all the musicians community agrees the Kontakt GUI is far from great and was programed in the mid-90s, when we were yound and 4K monitors didn't exist yet. We still need glasses to use it. 👓🔎

Do you have a low threshhold compressor used in the mix inside Cubase? Louder sounds especailly percussion and brass sound very unnatural compressed

Only one think I have to take into a consideretion is that maybe having this Library I can delete from my ssd drive the Symphonic Strings and Symphonic Woodwings and save some ssd space. What is your advise? Thanks

If you want to consolidate for file space It's worth noting the Total file size comes just under 320GB and is a complete package, you cant pick and choose to only download certain parts

Now it start to look different because right now I have using 322 GB for this two Packs Strings and Woodwings. I wondering if some articulation are missing in the new library because with a lot more instrument is only 320 GB. Thanks

I basically had to do the same thing. Cut all of the standalone SF libraries and replace it with this one prior to downloading. I backed those original libraries on my back-up drive. 👍🏾

can you briefly define the differences between this and Abbey Road One collection please?

As for the library content, Abbey Road One is an ensemble library and SSO has the individual orchestral sections and some solo instruments. In Abbey Road you have already nice and realistic sounding and common combinations of instruments playing together, and it's very good for sketching. Being recorded together, they actually sound a bit more realistic acoustically I think. But for detailed composition for each instrument, that's SSO. BBCSO and SSO would be two competitors in this case, they sound a bit different, but one isn't necessarily better than the other. Soundwise, several users have observed SSO being more ''modern'' and ''Zimmeresque'' sounding, whereas BBCSO being more traditionally classical and ''John Williamsy''. What does that make Abbey Road One? Well, I own BBCSO and Abbey Road One and I think they blend quite well with a little bit of tweaking. They both have quite traditional John Williams sound, Abbey Road even being a well known recording place for such kind of stuff. Other than just the amount of content, you might seriously want to concider if the sound is right for you, or can you use it _with_ the other sounds you already have.

I think, this will come later. Also all the other older libraries with the new GUI. The best or one of the best new things is, the Purge Unused

I think the real reason for this release is to remove the pro versions from their catalogue to put distance between BBCSO and more importantly their future Abbey Road Orchestra releases.

Useless re-packaging of the Symphonic libraries that worked in Kontakt 6, but now won't work in the exact same player. Why didn't they migrate this to their dedicated player?! If you have an Intel-based Mac and need multi-monitor target display support, then you need Catalina support from your music software.

You’d had vibrato at 100% for a lot of the strings demos. I my opinion this made it sound awful. Vibrato should not a at that level on a continuous basis

Hello, I was automating vibrato with controller for a lot of it and made a point of that. They default load in at 100% so it happened in places but not for the majority. Cheers for the comment and I’ll watch the video again today to take on constructive feedback. Thanks.

I just flicked through and it was about 17:30 until the end of the string section where vibrato was on full, during the ensemble patches and some of the legato. Of course there were shorts here too which aren’t affected by vibrato. Cheers for pointing it out though, these things happen when you’re controlling three faders while recording a long continuous video. I do a legato comparison later one where the vibrato is varied so there is a bit of everything going on. Thanks for the comment and watching! :)

Yes, but in the new versions you get the outriggers and lead mics from the pro versions. It’s a great move on the part of Spitfire :)

@@user-vp9ub1fm8y Out of curiosity what is the 8Dio Full Symphony Bundle? If you are referring to Century Series, they still have not launched the Woodwinds or Percussion. I would know, as I was waiting for so long to complete that Orchestra (who knows when that will be now). I have also waited to acquire SSO though, wanting that more. And now new composers and students will be able to get this incredible Library for less than 1/3rd the price it was before.
