Video didn’t even mention the sample from “The Stranger” at the end of Loop 3. So committed to sampling one song, only to jump completely to another song off the album. Daft Punk were masters of hiding samples from the same album in plain sight.

No fucking way, I never connected the sample in High Fidelity to Billy Joel. And I'm only able to pick out that extra little EQ'd sample in Crescendolls now that you've pointed it out. This right here is how you really demonstrate a sample effectively, by actually making an attempt to reconstruct it from scratch using the original track. There was another video that I can't find anymore that did the same thing with not nearly as many songs as you did, and it was incredibly instructive. Kudos to you sir.
@McGuinty2
@McGuinty2 5 жыл бұрын
The one thing that I haven't seen any video attempt yet is to take a crack at reconstructing Face To Face. Most videos just mention the Evil Woman sample and move on, and although I can kinda hear the timbres of ELO in there, I'm having an extremely hard time wrapping my brain around exactly how Thomas, Guy and Todd Edwards chopped that song up into what we hear on the track. Although, I finally found out that they also sampled Falling In Love by Surface and I can definitely hear clear snippets of that song in the mix, way more easily than with Evil Woman. If you could find the time and willpower to really dig into Face To Face the way you did with High Fidelity, I'm certain it would be extremely helpful to me to understand exactly what is going on in my favorite song from Discovery. Thanks for your hard work.

OMFG the sampling of High Fidelity... What a Fantasy
@OzzyDeCaT
@OzzyDeCaT 9 жыл бұрын
i don't understand complaints about sampling. because in art everything is always inspired by other's work. Without this, already very very long, tradition none of it would exist. I think it is actually impoosible to track down the "real" originator of a tune or a riff, and even if you did manage to find that dead hobo that maybe nile rodgers ripped off (who the hell knows, do you actually know these guys? were you there? no!) who is to say that he wasn't inspired by a little piece of music he heard in a blues bar... If you take little snapshots, even a whole riff, and focus on it, melt it into a fucking awesomely produced housetrack, and are thus creating an own universe with charming little pieces of old vinyl, thats superfine and its so interesting to discover new music when you dive further into the libraries of classic songs that would otherwise never be revisited.. which is a hell of a lot of homework, which they should get credit for anyway because it is a genius universe they made. I BELIEVE THAT THE SHEER VASTNESS OF MUSIC HISTORY ITSELF IS THE JUSTIFICATION FOR REMIXING AND SAMPLING AS AN ARTFORM, THE ART HERE IS THE CHOICES OF MUSIC TO SAMPLE FROM YOU MAKE and of course how you produce them all together with your drum machines, fx etc. ;) any comebacks, still? cheers!
