I wanted to make a baroque style build but with some unique features to make it distinct, so I tried to draw inspiration from a lot of different sources. Some of the exterior elements take some inspiration from rococo architecture and I also took inspiration from gothic architecture for the towers and spires. I'm really happy with this one even though it was very time-consuming to make. Hope you enjoy the video!

You know what is funny about grandiose builds like this? You end up in a little room with a bed. I've noticed this myself, I build enormous structures but for the most part I spend most of my time in a small area of operations. But doing the build I love, it gives me a satisfaction, especially in survival. Great build btw, I'd be interested in what study you do before you start your builds. Perhaps a storyboard video like a making of. It could give the younger folks an interest in architecture.
@SixWings

Yeah, this is so true. A small space, easy to access. I will do a video about my process at some point, but in short it depends on the build. I usually build enough of the build in a test world to be confident enough to starting the final build. But yeah, I will do a video. 😀

Love the design, it's like you took the arch from the Petit Palais (Beaux-Arts instead of Baroque but related) and used it to rebuild something like Santa Maria della Salute. Also the direction of video, the pan at 7:25 as the music built up and the torches were put down was fantastic, I like how you varied the mood of the music over the length of the video (and included some sound design) instead of just slapping epic music across the full thing. Looking forward to future builds :)
@SixWings
@SixWings Жыл бұрын
Thank you so much! I try to edit the music so it matches what is happening on screen, as much as possible. Yeah, there's definitely a resemblance to Beaux-Arts as you say and my build draws from different kinds of architectural styles like Beaux-Arts does. I actually considered making something closer to Santa Maria della Salute. I absolutely love that building and will definitely do something closer to that style at some point. Also, Berlin Cathedral was a big inspiration in terms of the color scheme. 🙂

They say in architecture the most important thing to consider when designing a building is how a human would view and interact with the space, and I think this particularly is what you got right that a lot of builds I’ve seen haven’t. The build is made so that it’s best appreciated by a player in survival, exploring all the intricacies of the interior and the grandeur of the exterior and the landscape. I think maybe because you didn’t use world edit and instead built everything by hand, is why you were able to create that effect. Also because you focused so much on the player in the showcase, it gave the sense of being in the space rather than viewing it from the outside. Absolutely beautiful build, thank you so much for sharing!
@SixWings

Thank you so much, Abigail. So nice of you to say. I do have that approach for all my builds, even the ones I've used World Edit to help building. I do admire people that build enormous builds that are epic and beautiful on the outside, but that is not my approach. I always consider how to move inside the build. Everything from how the build is framed from approaching it from a distance, to the entrance, to the inner workings of the staircases, ladders etc. I'm really glad that you noticed. 😊

This is giving me DnD adventure ideas. Something about the beautiful build with it's mystical feeling in combination with it's remote location and the total emptiness... Sorry, long read incoming. Kinda felt like it 😅 "After your long and perilous journey through the godstricken lands, a place where the lingering magics of old cause nothing to be as it seems, you finally glimpse the ancient sanctum from the hilltop on which you stand with the sun matching your effort and reaching it's own summit. You continue onward, down into the forest of tall spruce that envelops the valley. Passing through it's cooling shadows, here and there you gain another glimpse of the sanctums spires through the tall and skinny trees. The more perceptive of you notice a peculiarity - while passing through the trees, looking at the spires, you notice that sometimes when a tree temporaily blocks your line of sight, the sanctum escapes your gaze within this brief window, even though it should be visible from your current location. --- A few hours later, marching through the brush and having dealt with hopefully the last magical terrors of these lands, you reach the grounds of the sanctum. Or at least where it should be standing. You only view a large, elevated clearing filled with grasses and flowers. Insects buzzing in the late afternoon's sun and a gentle breeze swaying the treetops lining the forests edge. --- After navigating the anomalous surroundings and regaining sight of the structure you approach it's towering entrance. Quietly, not knowing for certain what to expect, you open one side of the gate just a crack and slip inside, leaving the peaceful sounds of the early evening behind. The interior leaves you speechless. Before you, seemingly filling the entire sanctum, lies a large, open room with a beautiful, intrecately tiled floor, ending either side in tall, pillared and greatly detailed walls that stretch up the entire height of the structure. Carved in these walls you see runes, glyphs and scripts of every known civilization and more, which escape your recognition. Every last corner and up the entire height is brightly lit with lanterns, gently flickering in unison, giving it all a warm and welcoming feel. About halfway up to the domed ceiling you spot a walkway interrupting the wall like an inset ribbon. Above it four large windows let in light of the now rising moon, painting the upper walls in a silvery blue hue. The structure and the very air around you thrums with leftover magic of the old gods, far more concentrated than you have ever experienced before. Even the non gifted in the arcane arts among you can feel it. This structure is far older than its condition leads to believe. Despite all this, the building remains devoid of any inhabitants and further decor and is eerily quiet. The only sounds being your footsteps and hushed remarks echoing seemingly forever in these tall halls. --- You open one of the small doors to the side and decide to venture up the staircase that presumably leads you to the upper walkway. Being, what should be halfway up, you start hearing sounds not unlike the guilds trading hall back in your home city. A mingled murmur of voices and footsteps, things being picked up and set down, getting more defined and clear with each step you ascend. Finally you reach a wooden door set within a beutifully carved stone arch that leads you out onto the walkway. As you push it open the sound drastically increases, now definetly sounding like hundreds of conversations and general interaction. Leaning onto the stone railing and gazing back down into the room, it is now filled with a bustling mass of people in manycolored robes inbetween furniture like desks, stools and other seating arrangements and plants lining the walls and sporadicly dotted about. Many of these individuals holding books, scolls or other items and seemigly discussing these with others. Above them all small, winged snakes zip through the air, most of them having pieces of paper tied to them and heading either to specific people delivering or recieving these notes, or in and out the large, now open windows above the walkway that are letting in bright sunlight, illuminating the entire scenery. Even the walkway previously thought deserted, features a few groups in conversation, wandering about. --- As you discuss how to approach this, a robed elf wanders closer, apparently intrigued by your motly group. In a warm and calm voice he calls out to you: "Greetings, you must be the newcomers, took you a little while to get here. Haha, don't look so confused, your arrival was set in time as soon as you actually made it to these lands. I hope the local... obstacles did not knock you around too harshly. But then again you seem to be in one piece and still of good spirits. Come, follow me. I'll lead you to high sage Bhaldrum. He will explain all to you, as I can see quite many a question etched in you faces. My name is Eridon by the way." With that and giving a wink with one of his blue eyes, he strides towards another stairway an leads you back down into the great hall. --- Arriving back on the floor you push on through the crowd, further lead by Eridon. Along the way you notice for the first time that people and species from all over the world ar among these people. You see elves, humans, lizardfolk, dwarves, gnomes, dragonborn, birdfolk and many, many more. Occasionally you pick out snippets of conversations. Some discussing historical, or more recent events or some that you have never heard about. Some theorize about planar connections and starcycles, and even others about magic - known and unfamiliar alike. Seemingly having reached your destination you stop at a seating arrangement where a dragonborn, a dwarf and two half orcs are deep in conversation. Eridon clears his throat and adresses the dwarf: "I am sorry for interrupting your discussion high sage Bhaldrum, but these are the expected newcomers." "Aah wonderful!" He calls out in a loud baritone voice. His accent unmistakably of the shimmerpeak dwarves. "Friends, please excuse me, we will finish this discussion at another time. To you, dear newcomers, welcome in the Eternal halls of the seeker! This Sanctum is dedicated to documenting all known an unknown things and aiding the seekers, that wish to gain knowledge and the wisdom it holds. It once stood at the centre of Udkunna Sūryan, a giant city, long before the old gods battled above these lands and warped them with their magic. The six winged god of knowledge gave the last of his essence to protect this library built by his followers, to ensure that his legacy survives the conflict and will be able to help the seekers and the lost for eternity. We come from every nation, every walk of life and every time - drawn here by his lingering call, now further collecting information to further the amassed knowledge. But enough history for now, let me show you around!" He leads you on through one of the giant archways which no longer feature the giant gates leading outside, but reveal even larger wings of the building spread out in all four directions. You are headed towards a ginormous library of which you cannot even see the end as Bhaldrum says over his shoulder with a smile in his voice: "Go ahead, ask what you want. I will answer or find the knowledge you seek..." Any writers stumbling over this - feel free to critique, as I want to improve my storytelling (Please be constructive tho :) ).

This is some really beautiful work, I'd be interested to hear what its story is beyond the visual inspiration. maybe some sort of temple thousands of years old but kept pristine by ancient magic, maybe even so old it outlived the city it was once in which has now returned to the earth. Builds like this really make your mind run with possibilities, such incredible work man, well done.
