Another request. I gotta admit I could not stop replaying the collision bit during editing. Not much else to say but enjoy. Also a happy birthday to my little sister Christina.
Please donate! Thank you!

I work for NS. I remember when this happened. The first local’s engine number was one digit off from the second local. That is why the intermodal train departed. They thought they saw the one they were meeting.

The dispatcher wasnt wrong, I run this line, we used to get a do not depart block on our warrants and there were 4 spaces for separate trains, the crew was negligent and thats what caused the wreck.....everyone isn't made to run trains on the road but the major carriers seem to disagree......

Joshua Jarrell I was a railroader most of my career, a signal man for years and then a conductor for a few railroads east and west coast. All the rail fans and train buffs think they know what goes on. They have no clue. It is extremely difficult to hear the dispatchers, yardmasters, work crews etc on the radios. There is so much noise from the locos, the horns, static and distractions. I'm surprised there are not more accidents. Almost without question, most accidents are the fault of the crew. Run thru switches, missed signal, Mostly from fatigue. Hours of service mean nothing. Most of the time we were zombies. Usually from sitting at a triple red in a siding and not moving for 5 hours, without any explanation, when no other traffic has been around, especially when on shared track. NS was notorious for this practice. I worked for CP in NY and PA and many a shift would be sitting on a loaded coal train 7500 ft long at reds for hours. It would really suck the life out of the engineer and conductor. That needs to change.

You NS crews need to stay away from RR marker 390 in Sylacauga (35150) Alabama. There is a huge sinkhole under your line signals at the Crooked Creek Road RR crossing. Upper management knows about the problem but keeps the RR line open due to necessary track use. Y’all are going to wind up killed and possibly hurt us locals due to the dangerous chemicals that line/route carries. If y’all value your lives and ours (us locals) y’all will refuse to traverse these tracks here in Sylacauga Alabama. Stay safe my friends if you won’t do it for yourselves will you do it for us locals?

Some audio suggests: 1) It sounds like you're too close to the mic or the levels are too high. Breath and sound levels are causing clipping. 2) Raising your voice for drama effect forces people to lower the volume to avoid being yelled at. Sometimes your voice is too low, sometimes it's too loud. 3) In general, your audio on this and other even newer videos is uneven. The background music levels seem to high compared to the voicing levels. Again, forcing listeners to raise and lower the volume in various spots of one video. Are you featuring music or telling a story? If you're telling a story, the volume of the storyline should remain fixed and higher than of the background music. I watched a few of you videos. They are informative. They would be better if you improved on your audio techniques. The video editing is far better that the audio.

Very well done, good execution and professional. Impressive. Like the former CofG mainline between Atlanta and Macon, this line used to have automatic block signals and possibly CTC. NS tore them out about 20 (+/-) years ago. THAT would have prevented this accident. Like the old TT&TO system, the radio borne verbal DTC system is still a Train Order. It's a crap shoot when dispatching mainline trains in dark territory. Critical things can be overlooked and forgotten with no technology backing up the trains' traffic (reduced costs and operating ratios jeopardizing lives and property). I would think that it's no question that hazmat moves on this line. I know the railroads have been criticized in the press about replacing all the signals in ABS & CTC territory as they upgrade to PTC. Unnecessary, and costly, say the experts. They really should consider restoring two mile ABS blocks where there are local traffic and mainline through freights using the line.

In Divine, TX in 1996 2 UP freights collided head-on. The wreck was the worst in Texas for the UP. In 2001 I believe, a UP freight rear-ended another freight near Jacksonville, TX. I was in college in Jacksonville and got pictures of the damaged cars and the SD9043MACs. The 2nd unit was damaged due to the force of impact and the cars colliding into it. Do you have or know of any documentaries on the Divine crash?

I’m glad neither trains were hauling hazardous materials unlike the January 2005 Graniteville Train Crash where NS Trains P22 and 192 head on collide with 192 hauling Tankers filled with Chorine Gas, Sodium Hydroxide and Cresol. That would have been a huge disaster and would scare me a lot.

It amazes me that countries take so long to learn from each other. The US mandated Janney couplers 100 years before they were common here in the UK, with a massive effect on safety. But token block working (which has been mandatory on single track lines in the UK since 1899) would have prevented this collision. Weird.
