The Sandwich that's Breaking the Internet... Reinvented
So this sandwich is breaking the internet according to ‪@samthecookingguy‬ so I needed to try to make it... but vegan!
BUT I wanted to try another idea I had, so I made the chopped Italian, but I also dove into 1 other sandwich that came out REALLY good... like really good!
No mixing bowls needed, nothing to prep, just toss it all on a cutting board and go haha

I use to enjoy the chopped salads from subway. There is something about getting a little bit of everything distributed through that is delicious. And adding giardiniera is an a++ move in my books. Don't care if others aren't. That stuff is great.

I don’t like subway, but if I go I get the chopped salad. The chopped salad actually is pretty good and filling. I have them hit it with oil, vinegar, s&p, oregano, and parm before they chop. It’s better than any of their dressings. It definitely feels more substantial and satisfying chopped.

If you use solely to enjoy Subway salads it's probably better to just stop using. There are plenty of other foods that are enjoyable without having to use. I'm not exactly sure what you're using but I assume it can't be good, especially with those side effects. Who knows, maybe Subway has released some crazy chemical into the underground drug market that makes people addicted to Subway. Anyways, good luck .

I accidentally made Tofurky. I was doing Mary's Test Kitchen's recipe for chickeny seitan. I guess I over kneaded it and then when put in my Instant Pot, I wrapped it really tight. It came out like a Tofurky loaf, but it was a pretty good mistake. I doubt I could replicate it, though😂

Not like I have any grounds to give you cooking advice, but maybe toast the rolls after you get everything in a pile. Then you are only toasting during the chopping bit. You are less likely to over-toast. I would be too distracted organizing my ingredients to toast at the start. (I like a dark toast, so neither of those seemed too overdone. It would have to be on fire for me to bail on it.) I really like your responses to all the cooking trends! Keep up the great work!

Ah! I do weekly meal preps because I want to save $$$ and I am a very busy working woman almost everyday. What I do is to separate the carbo (such as bread, rice noodles, and rice) and the mixed fillings. I like to mix veggies, protein (such as beans), and some spices as a filling because they meddle together very well. When it is the time to eat, I just toast a bread (or reheat rice) and take out the bagged mixed filling from my fridge. I just put them together along with my choice of condiments. That's it. Because I prefer separating the carbos and the fillings, I am not a fan of overnight soggy sandwiches and moldy sandwiches. A very hard bread is another story-- I can mix the very hard bread (chopped bite sizes) in this filling prior to my dinner time, so the bread would be a bit soft (and easy on my teeth). :P

As someone that isn't a fan of the texture and potential sliminess of vegan deli meat .. I think I'll definitely give this one a try. Well, both actually, but definitely the 1st one too, as it seems like something you could make the night before, leave in a container, and bring to work the next day with the bread separate.
@jwoolman5

Tofurky deli slices are not actually slimy. You can always just pay to me off with a paper towel if you don't like any hint of moisture. If it's really slimy, it's been in the fridge too long. I actually freeze portions myself and warm them up in the convection oven before eating. The same is true for other brands.

I started with a Loaded Baked Potato Chopped Salad, used seasoned hash brown patties (warm, it’s a nice contrast in a cold salad), chopped them up, fakin bacon, romaine, cabbage, white onion, Fresh Dressing of fresh dill, rosemary, sage, thyme, garlic, black pepper, white pepper, Maldon Sea Salt & ‘cheeze’ (nooch) in a Tahini base, top with chopped chives... dude 🤯 I also just did a Beyond Burger chopped salad... Chef’s 💋 So many possibilities Vegan chopped crab or lobster roll salads are also phenomenal, I make that quite often

Very good video - I understand why people are loving the sandwiches this way. It's like a chopped salad vs a regular one. Question - your kitchen is beautifully designed and spotless (hey, at least on camera!) and then you use a pan that is (I assume) in the midst of becoming seasoned and non-stick but currently unappetizing to look at. I believe that your goal is to have a beautifully seasoned pan of one color but in the meantime, could you put the bread in a toaster oven or salamander or cleaner-looking pan? It would help make it more appetizing, as would opting to either scrape the charred bread or make a new one - the fact that you said it wasn't as bad as it appeared tells me that somewhere inside, you knew it was in need of excuse to be considered food. Just make a new one and let us know that you have standards both in the food you are cooking for us to see and for the food you're about to offer your wife!

I really have trouble with these kinds of sandwiches just because I hate the mess so much. I don’t want to sit at the table with my family for a meal, take a bite only to have the sandwich disgorge its contents onto my plate, shirt, table, and any cats lurking underfoot. It’s just not pleasant. To be fair, I dislike overstuffed deli sandwiches for the same reason. Maybe I’ve got an abnormally small mouth, but I cannot comfortably fit a massive egg salad sandwich (sorry, vegetarian, not vegan) with lettuce, tomato, and cucumbers on sturdy pumpernickel bread in my mouth to take a bite. If I order from a deli, I always end up scooping 2/3 the filling out and saving it for another sandwich. Have I become that old person who complains about everything now? Gods I hope not. Oh yeah, I’m still fond of Tofurky and buy it now and then. Tofu Pups are still kind of sad in my opinion, but thankfully there’s plenty of decent vegan hot dog brands on the market now.

@autumnrain7918 It might be awhile, I'm slowly transitioning to a plant based. The whole "make sure you talk to a Dr before starting a new diet" has me scared of rushing into it.

I saw a girl make a vegan chopped sandwich and she sautéed her vegan meats in a bit of oil prior to assembling.

I would just throw the whole situation in my food processor and keep it moving. Feels like way too much effort. To be honest I’d just put the stuff on the bread. Sandwich could be ate.

So you're definitely more plant based now. I remembered watching you and didn't know if you were Vegan or not❤❤❤❤😄

I am going to make a chopped vegan sandwich. This is happening. I'll eat it over a plate and eat whatever falls out with a spoon.

@@SauceStache sure was. Mixed it with scrambled Eggs (im vegeterian), vegan sausage, lettuce, tomatoes, red wine vinegar, and a vegan bbq/mayo sauce. All on a flatbread, Chalupa style. Super clutch. Feel free to steal that one for a video lol.

There is a version of 'Scrambled eggs' I used to make with soybeans. Soak, whiz in blender, add chik type of seasoning with other spices. Can pour into fry pan & Scramble as like real eggs, if you decide to try this. Am not sure but it's possible to try other types of beans. I don't shun soy like some.
