Well, you're certainly not alone in you're thinking; so there's that. Consensus doesn't change the fact that the show is just plain horrible, though. Aside from the fact that the Uhtred of the show is NOTHING like the Uhtred described in the books, the timeline and character portrayals are all wacky, and the costumes are complete and utter nonsense. There’s lots of inexplicable leather, ragged furs that just appear to have been glued onto the characters already too-fancy-for-the-9th-century knitting. The battle armour appears to be mostly leather scales when in fact iron chain mail or just normal clothes would dominate battlefield. The Danish horses have headgear for fuck sakes, head gear!!! No such horse armor has ever been discovered or even attested. It's a shit show by shit actors and shit producers.

Well, the problem is, there isn't anything else out there to be had.

6 year-old comment but I just finished season 2 and I agree with the comment for the first season, the writing was messy, contrived and rushed. But it's much better now.
