Jack Teller (Edward Norton) betrays Nick Wells (Robert De Niro) during the heist.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
Three generations of method acting giants unite for this crime thriller written by Kario Salem and directed by Frank Oz. Robert De Niro stars as Nick Wells, an aging thief whose specialty is safecracking and who is on the verge of retiring to a life of ease, running his jazz club and romancing his girlfriend Diane (Angela Bassett). But before he can ride off into the sunset, Nick is pressured to do one last job by his mentor and business partner, a flamboyant and extravagant upscale fence named Max (Marlon Brando). Max is plotting the heist of the Montreal Customs House, and he's got a man on the inside, Jackie Teller (Edward Norton), a talented but volatile crook who has managed to ingratiate himself with the facility's staff as a fellow employee suffering from cerebral palsy. Jackie bristles at Nick's interference in "his" score, however, and threatens violence when it seems he's going to be cut out of the action. In the meantime, Nick grows increasingly ill at ease about the operation, as it violates his two most important dictums in thievery: always work alone and never pull a job in your own city. The part of Max in The Score was written specifically for Brando by screenwriter Salem, although the improvisational star and his director Oz reportedly clashed during filming.

Nick is always one step ahead of Jack and that look on Jack's face.That moment he realizes he's been duped on the scepter.His expression was priceless!😊😊😊

Such an Underrated Flick! Edward Norton was incredible in this , De Niro is really good like in most films , Brando was also good and Angela Basset was also pretty damn good. Overall , this movie was pretty awesome from start to finish , especially the last 30 minutes that when it gets all fun 👌🏻 Anyways the movie is underrated and so overlooked. One of the better Heist movies out there.

I loved how they kept it simple --- an old pro showing a young up-and-cummer how to do a real score like a pro --- none of that hokey "oh yeah well I fooled you .... no wait, you fooled me .... she fooled both of us!" bullshit

What was her roll lol? Also brando was notoriously bad, I heard he would sometimes flatout refuse to wear shoes or pants so they would have to change the angles they shot

It’s almost absurd for Nick to believe Brian wouldn’t verify he had the scepter right then and there. Probably just think Brian would be too emotional and time shortage to think of the double cross.

The fake scepter was just the tip of the iceberg. The real deception was his response. He had to resist giving it to him, and act genuinely surprised, enough to convince him that he had given him the real deal. The act was far more important than the physical thing that he gave away.

@@thelastdragon5551 No reason for Brian to verify a bag the shape of the Sceptor and the weight felt right, so Brian wasn't suspicious. Brian thought he was smarter than his older crook associates Max & Nick, who had decades of experience on him. Brian felt he wasn't getting a fair share of the booty, but I suspect Brian's plan to double-cross his associates was in place from the beginning to have the whole prize to himself. It's never disclosed what Brains cut was, but it's reasonable to assume it might have been a couple million. Brian got greedy!

The rest of the movie isn’t boring, it’s just less entertaining but the last 45 minutes are just excellent. A very fun, entertaining underrated heist movie. I love this flick. It’s very like oceans 11, the first hour you see the characters meet each others and planning the heist, and the last hour there is the complete heist with a little plot twist at the ending and the villain face when he lost😂✌🏼 They are both good movies and the score come out in 2001, the same year as oceans 11, so he got overshadowed by sodenbergh excellent movie but The Score in his own way is very underrated

I remember sneaking into this with a friend when i was 15 i didn't even know what it was about but i knew with Robert De Niro and Edward Norton the odds of going wrong were slim...and damn i was right cuz this is such an underappreciated film and this remains one of my all time favorite endings..it's damn near a classic that I've recommended to many with very few not liking or loving it

funny thing about this movie is that that tie rod that Edward Norton run away with sells for 300 bucks on Ebay which is more than that real scepter cost to make.

American History X was his greatest film and it was too controversial then, they took it off all the streaming platform or censor out some of the gritty parts which is a shame Movie is a masterpiece

For sure he got fooled partly by the weight and shape of the bag. And, after firing three warning shots off, he’d believe there was enough fear in DeNiro’s character to not try and pull any tricks.

In retrospect, yes, but at the time, I believe most people thought it was the real thing because he didn't give it up easily and let himself get shot at.

He wasn’t making time. He was really selling what was in the bag to be the score so he didn’t check it on the spot and realize it wasn’t the score. De Niro had to make it look like he didn’t want to part with the score so Norton wouldn’t look.

tbh, he's kinda right here. he set this up from the beginning and they were planning to give him a suckers share of the spoils. It's an all-or-nothing play, he gambled, too bad he loses.

Norton's character tried to act tough in this scene but still pussied out --- he shoulda killed De Niro AND taken the sceptre --- that way he gets the score and doesn't have a guy coming after him for revenge

This is the result of Max(Brando) and Nick(De Niro) being greedy and giving Jack(Norton) a tiny slice of the pie even though he did most of the hard work and took on most of the risk, just because he was young. I was on Nick's side on this one so the ending was unsatisfactory for me.

Because Norton wanted to be there at the point of sale and De Niro could tell he was eager to get his hands on it.

Good question. It's true that he found out about the item, but it would have been all but impossible for Jack to actually obtain and get away with the item without being found out. This is why HE came to THEM asking for help. Jack was just providing the information, opening the door, and playing lookout, Nick had to do all of the actual work, and I think Brando's character was setting up a good fence. Jack couldn't do the stuff that Nick and Brando could do because he didn't have the experience or connections. Speaking of experience, this is what made DeNiro move the sceptre for safe-keeping. Norton thought he was the smartest guy in the room and had everyone fooled. But DeNiro never trusted him.

This scene is awesome of course but talking about the script it doesn't make sense that Nick was carrying that piece of metal. Who would do that? In a real situation Ace would have won here, we all know how it ends but that turn is a little bit foolish.

ma demarche en question contester par le mensonge dont implanter avec des gens comme toi la bas je te donne la reponse les memes intructions qu'on leur a donner de jalousie en 2008 les memes a partir de 2013 a 2017 jusqu'a ce raconter ca et non tu repasseras la bas ! quand a un tu es un ou deux tu es un bon comedien mais dans le mauvais sens du therme plusieurs question et le premiere quelle instruction a ete donner par les bureaux d'en haut en 2016 racontez nous un peu ca a pardon ecxuse moi on travaillait avec une science pour rendre credible ton histoire mais la tienne comme lui
