Helme did incredibly well considering how much his vocal monitors were drowned out by Squires teeth loosening guitar 🎸 volume. Blinded By The Sun ☀️ is a really good song too ! I like Chris Helme - strikes me as a nice 👍 guy tbf.

Too much sour grapes, needs some humility IMO. Resents John so much and apparently felt restricted in the band - yet he's still touring under the billing 'Chris Helme OF THE SEAHORSES'.

@@SeahorsesJay John replacing drummers on a whim in his own world with a separate tour bus with his infantile doodling cranked to 11. Chris was the only one who got on with him, but he finally had enough and told it like it was John treated everyone like shite, and expected everyone to jump at his command and play his songs only when he couldn't write, it was John who needs humility, just because Johns a great guitarist does not make him great bandmate

On a stage that large what you can hear is due to what you ask for in your monitors. It never fails to astound me how some seriously experienced singers still don't realise they only have to communicate with the monitor engineer to change the balance of what they want to hear.

@@mitchellgreenhowe7891 - You're missing the point. Wouldn't matter how big his amps or ego may have been if the singer knew what to ask for in HIS OWN monitors. John Squire wouldn't have been aware of given a toss what the singer was hearing as it wouldn't have much affected his own stage sound unless he had gone and stood centre stage and blocked the singer's access to his microphone. But I guess you'd have to understand the nature of onstage monitoring to know what I'm referencing

Fair enough Chris couldn't hear over the guitar........but you don't just stop singing......at Glastonbury! You learn songs from repetition and muscle memory helps you hit the key no matter what. Drummer also waaay off so that was more likely the problem. Most singers have loud guitar/drums/bass in their ears....it's nothing new. Great band regardless 👍 Edit: I sing in a band, the only time the sound on stage isn't ridiculously shit is when we've done the sound ourselves. Too much coke doesn't help you stay in key either 🤪

Cocaine is just shit for performance on stage - makes you sing/play like a tosser plus makes you ten times more nervous ! I absolutely do NOT recommend you - The Kids - go near it ! Try heroin - it’s much nicer ?! JOKE !!! That last bit was me joking. Stay away from hard drugs kids. Then you’ll never have to regret how drugs destroyed all the things you were really good at. Seriously !! Yer better off without all that Pandora’s Box bollocks ripping yer life apart at the seams..... @@theprogrammerrolandmc3039 Nice 👍 comment ! Agree with you - particularly the hard drugs part - very few ppl can enjoy them and just put them down without it making a negative influence on their lives. Cobain and Stanley certainly enjoyed heroin but continued use could’ve had a negative affect on their vocal chords - but they were both intravenous users - for it to really mess up your voice you’d have to smoke it every day for a good while. Much better to not bother. Best wishes to you and cheers 🥂

John Squire ruined this band ! It's evident in this gig no one can hear anything except squire, looks like chris helm as good as gives up

He ruined this band the moment he chose to recruit second rate musicians
@northernthrifter8817

@@Jimking666I don't think it's that simple. Squire got screwed by his previous manager and probably thought he could do better himself but history shows he couldn't he did exactly the same to these guys as was done to him. Granted the musicians were a little inexperienced but to my ears the only weak point was the drummer. Squire is notoriously difficult to work with and probably has an over inflated opinion of himself and given the amount of cocaine he was using it's hardly surprising he was afraid of not being in control which ruined the opportunity this band had because there is as much talent here as there was in the roses. All they need was the right drummer and a professional manager but squire wanted to do it his way and he messed up a potentially great band.

This performance is famous for being bad. They had monitoring issues I think. The songs were pretty good but too much guitar wankery on the album.

If you play (and like) the guitar, it's far from wankery.

Barry Peal As much as I enjoy playing these songs on the electric, you can’t ignore how much the guitar over shadows Chris helme’s lyrics. Let’s be real, John’s ego got the best of him and no one (besides Helme) objected to the amount of wankery on the album. I think Helme should have had more control tbh, things would have played out better

@@Chillo56 Fair enough. We'll have to agree to disagree, but John and Chris both had problems. I'm a big fan of guitars and love it erring on the side of 'wankery' if you want to call it that. I also like the songs, and Chris Helme's voice, which has a slightly folky edge at times, which the other singers in his peer group (mainly shouters) don't have.

I agree, and in spite of being a player and interested in John Squire back then, there was way too much of the riffing with the same pull-offs and trills everywhere (EVERYWHERE) to the extent that The Seahorses were boring. I suppose it's the songs isn't it? If they're just not strong enough for a whole album's worth.
