The FED lowered its inflation objective to less than 2% in 2012. They changed the target to a long-term average of 2% inflation. Because long-term interest rates are set at inflation plus a profit margin, the implication is lower interest rates. I consider the current rising interest rate to be a very serious issue it will cause more investors to withdraw from the market. But then despite the severe bear market, I am aware of certain investors that continue to earn over $365,000. Wish I could accomplish that.

I totally agree, it's been three years and counting, and I've made over 1.7 million by simply following a coach's advice. I was on the sidelines for a while watching, trying to determine the best time to get in, before I came across a coach, recommended by my wife. I wholeheartedly concur; I'm 60 years old, just retired, and have about $1,250,000 in non-retirement assets. Compared to the whole value of my portfolio during the last three years, I have no debt and a very little amount of money in retirement accounts. To be completely honest, the information provided by invt-advisors can only be ignored but not neglected. Simply undertake research to choose a trustworthy one.

I would avoid index funds, mutual funds, and specific stocks for the time being. Right now, the best option is a fixed income of five percent. Put money aside for the times when the market really starts to bounce back.

I can't rely on Burry's 13F filings because his portfolio might have changed completely before the filing is even submitted. Therefore, it's better to follow investors who hold their investments for at least a year.

I really like the idea of the three bucket decision making process... I think it was Buffett/Munger? Yes, No, Too Difficult. For me, ANY company in China falls into the Too Difficult bucket. I have seen the Chinese government gut a company or industry with no warning before. And so, no matter how good a company looks, and no matter how tempting the price seems, I am not willing to risk putting a dollar into them. I'm a small fry, haven't even earned my seventh digit yet, and I work too hard for every dollar I invest. This was a great video, always love hearing about the greats - and Dr Burry is definitely one of the greats! Thanks for years of education and entertainment.

By adding maritime shipping dry bulk carriers, SB, and SBLK, that is also a play on Chinese economic recovery. These two companies are engaged in transport of commodities like iron ore and coal with big operational leverage to Chinese demand.

His bet on chinese stock is high risk. The technical analysis gives a no brainer for an investment, but the trend down is going on for years and if we see anything like an attack on Taiwan your chances for losing it all are huge as we are trapped on the transatlantic side of the balance.

Not really. Consider how Gold has behaved historically over a long time horizon: Its value has approximately kept pace with inflation albeit with volatility. If you’re goal is to hold an asset that keeps pace with the inflation rate something like “TreasuryDirect Series I-Bonds” are better I would argue (assuming you’re in the USA) since they: 1) Cannot lose principle/there’s no volatility 2) They are given a lenient tax treatment and are tax deferred 3) Sometimes they have a fixed rate above the inflation rate depending on when you bought them (right now fixed rate is like 1% iirc) Don’t get me wrong there are worse investments than Gold and I do agree gold has some inherent value since it’s used in high end electronics manufacturing, jewelry, and there is a psychological/historical component to people valuing it but I don’t hold it personally nor do others like Warren Buffett or the JP Morgan CEO. Buffett has talked about why he doesn’t hold it previously if you want to look it up. My position is for a long term portfolio how Vanguard (for example) structures their Target Date Fund is basically correct. For most, low fee low turnover broad market index funds is the way to go where stocks and bonds (index funds) are the standard and are pretty good options for most people. The Bogleheads have pretty much got it right if you want to do more reading.

Gold is not an investment, it’s a speculative bet. Gold produces no cash flow. You can make money on speculative bets, but it’s still a heads or tails bet.

Not really. Gold has behaved historically like a volatile inflation hedge. But if you want an inflation hedge there are probably better options (such as TreasuryDirect Series I-Bonds for US investors given they can’t lose principle, are tax efficient and tax deferred, and sometimes they have a fixed rate above the inflation rate). Does gold have some inherent value? Sure, it’s used in high end manufacturing and jewelry and there’s the psychologically ingrained component due to history and relative scarcity (compared to fiat at least). But as the commenter above me said gold is a non productive asset. Investors like Warren Buffett and JP Morgans ceo do not hold any gold. There’s probably a clip out there of Warren breaking down why if you’d like to seek it out. Cheers

burry thinks its all going to be like 2008 again, they learned form the last time that they have one last big kick the can down the road before it all falls apart, they can keep this going for far longer than i think he realizes. when the music stops it will be biblical, but until then i wouldn’t be betting against those who control the printers. they have a lot more firepower than he wants to admit. this isn’t simply a 1+1=2 scenario like being able to foresee the housing crash, this beast is far different and i think burry thinks its like the math equations of before. before there was not a question of the u.s. dollar as reserve currency, no one was throwing that around in everyday media, now we see it daily.

He's not committing to huge bets against the economy like he did in 2008 though. This is really mild. I remember him predicting an "ETF meltdown" in 2021. It didn't happen right after he said it, but it did come in Jan 2022.

To say China didn’t do large scale printing of capital simply is false. If you look at Chinese money supply it’s up 21x much much higher printing then US. It just hasn’t created inflation like hoped because Chinese who have wealth park it

Don’t be confuse buying the dip in a bear market, with guaranteed future returns. Just because that company is down 60%+ from ATH does NOT make it a sound long-term investment. Make sure you’re investing in great companies. kudos to Celia dullpher
