Ahhhh . . . (lightbulb moment) I knew about the five minor pentatonic positions (I spend most of my time around postions 5, 1, and 2). I did not know that the second position was the major pentatonic scale. I knew the major pentatonic scale existed, but since I was happy with the minor pentatonic I never bothered to look it up. It now makes perfect sense why Em pentatonic works with the key of G, and Am pentatonic with the key of C and Bm pentatonic with the key of D. Thank you!

I was actually flabbergasted when you said that the five positions in the pentatonic scale map the entire fretboard. I didn’t realize this when I first watched it 4 months ago 😂. This goes to show that the guitar roadmap is the best method for learning guitar 🙌

Thanks for watching! The name of the major pentatonic scale would be the key you’re in, and the relative minor key, which is named after the connected minor pentatonic scale is exactly the same key, just by a different name

Are the other shapes part of the caged system because the minor and major shapes you showed are similar to the g shape and the e shape in the caged system

No, the CAGED system is a different thing. It helps maps triads on the fretboard and these are just scales. I’ll be sure to make a video explaining the caged system at some point
