The Legends history makes Chimaera a proper character, much like the Millennium Falcon or to compare to other franchises Star Trek's various USS Enterprise iterations, and Patrick O'Brian's HMS Surprise. While the Canon history isn't as fleshed out yet, holy moly the golden repairs on Peridea and the combination with the Eye of Sion as a hyperspace ring are cool as hell. I fully expect the ship to be unceremoniously destroyed in a "good guys win" finale to the Mando-centric stories (aka "The Scorch Effect"), but what it lacks in character right now the Chimaera makes up in drip.

I like how the EU understood the relationship between an admiral and captain when it comes to a ship. A lot of people don't understand it.

What I appreciated about Chimera was it was it was entirely normal ship. No superlaser, funny hull paint, etc.

Pallaeons career makes no sense, I find it very funny. He is a captain during the clone wars, considers a promotion to admiral even. Then he is a commander in Choices of One, and then a Captain again. He seems to have been demoted along the way and stayed a captain for the entierty of the empires existence. Voss Parcks rank also is inconsistent, which is why I like to think they both where demoted, taking the fall when Thrawn went into exile.

Might make a case for The Ghost or the Tantive IV being the most important; or in Legends specifically, Wedge's X-Wing- Antilles did some WORK behind the stick.

I’d argue the Chimera is a more important ship than the Falcon: For one, Thrawn commanded his entire campaign from the ship. It played such a crucial role in his plan, and the amount of New Republic cruisers the ship battled and destroyed was more than any other Imperial ship. Not to mention it was the last command ship during the final days of the Empire, and continued to serve the Imperial Remnants during the Vong War and the Second Galactic Civil War. The Falcon, while iconic to the films, is very limited in what it can really do. It’s a freighter class starship, so it can only command small fleets of blockade runners and fighter pilots.

Agreed as the chimera is the grand old Dame of the imperial navy, flagship of the two best grand admirals to ever serve the empire and a damn stubborn old ship that refuses to be destroyed or be retired, before it’s duty is done.

I love joking about Timothy Thrawn and his Mary Blue, Admiral Zahn, but the Chimaera is a damn fine ship. It feels like a hero ship despite being an Imperial Star Destroyer.

It was Mara Jade, and in the original trilogy I am not sure if she was even considered as future wife of Luke Skywalker at that point. Thankfully Zahn was no author who used the rushed "enemies to lovers" story so many writers produced oveer and over, and at the end of the first trilogy they were perhaps on the way to become friends/trusties. Mara Jade should not be reduced to being Skywalkers future wife, since she was a beloved char long befor. Tjat said, I agree fully. that the Chimera was the second most important ship in Star Wars.

Fun fact: There is a Sexipedia with a page on Thrawn. So it's a crime against humanity that the Chimera Jade isn't mentioned

It must have annoyed Thrawn so much when Palpatine gifted him the Chimera and it had that painting on its hull. 1. Its a waste of resources 2. Its a tactical flaw, making it a target. 3. That painting depicts a hydra, not a chimera.

I know everyone was fawning over Mikkelsen and Berkeley as castings for Thrawn and Pellaeon, but I think both look goofy as fuck. I would have chosen Michael Fassbender (X-Men) and Bruce Greenwood (The Fall of the House of Usher) respectively.

2:30: You can also destroy them without consequence... wish they game made them invincible and immune to ion cannons so to prove a point. I don't know what sounds wrong, the fact that Pellaeon was epitomizing a form of unprofessionality bringing the Chimaera to the Empire, or the fact that the New Republic seemed to have left the lauded vessel quite underused enough that a scrapping isn't big of a deal to check up on. Won't exaggerate, there is a side in me that is admittedly fine the good vessel was sacrificed in the Battle of Bastion in the Yuuzhan Vong War, and yet there's another side in me that is extremely relieved to see her be A-OK in Legacy of the Force, no matter the Denning-verse's flaws. Would love to see more enhanced Star Destroyers with advanced tech do their visual magic even in non-Star Wars works. Imagine a Victory-class dubbed the Jacen Solo (built on a universe where the guy never became Caedus and instead became the hyped up New Jedi Order Grandmaster he deserved to be) solely doing cruise missile spams with portal assistance against enemy positions (read: an all too misguided and recently founded NATO interdimensional defense expeditionary force's firebases) for the defense of suddenly beleaguered realms like Amphibia and the Boiling Isles (if not that, why not offensive strikes assisted by Mercury laser satellites against an dangerously encroaching Earth-ni haphazardly led by one crazed Star Butterfly-Diaz?). For me, nothing should beat the Home One, but the likes of the Nebulon-B Frigate Redemption and the MC80s Independence and Defiance can be a little close.

honestly for canon, I think that the Ghost is probably the second most important ship in Star Wars. The thing was active during the dark times, fought at Scarif, and made it all the way to the battle at the end of ROS. The amount of major battles it participated in is insane

It's definitely one of the most iconic ships. I hope we see some cool action from it in whatever Mandoverse projects it shows up in.
