With a very short research I could find an example in Scriabines Piano Sonata No. 4, seven bars before the ending of the first movement, induced by a contrary chromatic movement. 2. In terms of jazz theory it seems absolutely adequate to me to interpret the use of this chord in many cases as a SubV. In terms of classical theory I'd sometimes describe it (of course depending on the special context) as the second inversion of a major triad with "dis-altered" fifth - often in the function of a dominant, although without a 7 -, for example in a progression like: c-f-a-c - cb-f-a-c# - bb-f-a-d (the forementioned example from Scriabine is very close to the retrograde version of this progression); so the second chord has the b5 as the base tone and the #5 as the upper tone (a previous commentator wrote something very similar; I beg your pardon for repetition😉). Anyway, your video is very inspiring, thanks again!

I like to call this chord the Japanese augmented sixth chord, to connect it to Italian/French/German augmented sixth chords, which also conventionally go down by a semitone.

I know an instance of this chord being used in a jazz tune by bill evans that I really like called "Re: Person I Knew'' it has has a C pedal point throughout the tune and the second chord is an F#+/C which then resolves to Bb/C

You could also interpret it as an augmented chord with a minor 7th in third inversion built on the minor third degree of the scale, i.e. a bIII6#/2, which then resolves to the tonic; in functional harmony, it would be a counter parallel dominant 7th chord, i.e. a dG5#/7. That way, it never lacks a third. When used as a secondary bIII6#/2 → V (or as a (dG5#/7)[D]), it could be named as a "Japanese augmented sixth" chord (or Jp2), bearing resemblance to the usual German, Italian and French chords.

to me; the colour of the blackadder is kind of this preparatory phrase in the music. in the japanese, iki sugi (going to extreme/ going to cool)* implies that "we are going even further beyond"** kind of a "plus ultra"** kind of saying. thus with the progression, yes it climbs and instead of a reaching the summit/apotheosis, you hit this colour of the blackadder and realize you can "go even further beyond"**, thus it sells the climb of the progression. I can only imagine what it would be like to hit that super satifying I from V after the blackadder. *sorry my japanese is super rudimentary **sorry anime fan, had to get those dbz and heroaca references

I dont get it how you can find out those chord progressions, I always sit there trying to get one chord correct but I cant hear which inversion a chord is, if there is a seventh or other extensions and sometimes I cant even hear if its major or minor.
