Music: Jóhann Jóhannsson - Divine Objects (Pt. 2)
Speaker: Tom O' Bedlam (SpokenVerse)
Full poem:
I still get letters in the mail, mostly from cracked-up
men in tiny rooms with factory jobs or no jobs who are
living with whores or no woman at all, no hope, just
booze and madness.
Most of their letters are on lined paper
written with an unsharpened pencil
or in ink
in tiny handwriting that slants to the
left
and the paper is often torn
usually halfway up the middle
and they say they like my stuff,
I’ve written from where it’s at, and
they recognize that. truly, I’ve given them a second
chance, some recognition of where they’re at.
it’s true, I was there, worse off than most
of them.
but I wonder if they realize where their letters
arrive?
well, they are dropped into a box
behind a six-foot hedge with a long driveway leading
to a two car garage, rose garden, fruit trees,
animals, a beautiful woman, mortgage about half
paid after a year, a new car,
fireplace and a green rug two-inches thick
with a young boy to write my stuff now,
I keep him in a ten-foot cage with a
typewriter, feed him whiskey and raw whores,
belt him pretty good three or four times
a week.
I’m 59 years old now and the critics say
my stuff is getting better than ever.

He knows the reason his work is getting popular and it's the main reason he wrote this. There's more pain, suffering and confusion in the world now and more people find his work appealing. For him becoming famous means the world is getting darker.

" with a young boy to write my stuff now, " i think the young boy is his inner child , he is 59 years old but he keeps abusing or relieving his abuse and won't let the young boy heal..its sad because he could let the boy out and finally escape the pain but its beatiful coz he knows without that pain and trauma he wouldn't be able to write anymore and they need him to keep writting..so the secret to his endurance is that he keeps himself in pain so those in pain can feel seen and heard ..he admits in the beginning that its no longer where he is, thats why he lets the young boy write his stuff...the bluebird he keeps locked up in his cage

Better than ever because with age comes the realization that there is no hope just darkness. Embrace that darkness or it'll breed madness. Realize that it's better to lead a lost soul out of the darkness than to point out that there is light.

hope comes with young age, cynicism comes from old age- is there no in-between? Are we just doomed to think through our hatred, trauma, depression, or what we identify as ‘natural’? Old age has only made people more tired and weaker, and yet it’s wisdom to only give up and live your life as another ‘martyr’? This kind of mentality causes lives to be ruined, and gives another generation issues that they never should of have. From my perspective, you are just conceited mad men that love to live off your own moans and groans.

The idea that there is no hope, but darkness only comes from the tough that you are not part of the rest, that you are alone and only your so called life is what matters. In my opinion that's not the case, when you realize that there's something greater than your own life, you see there's no darkness, only hope.

@@darknightsoup Yes of course, one first need to embrace the darkest within and around you, that is what Jung called individuation. One first need to observe the world as it really is, then decide which way to swing to. You say darkness in our time is inescapable, it seems like that, but every dark age has an end, and that is also inescapable. The time frames of such changes are by far bigger than those of human lives, that why it is so hard to picture, but we all know inside how the world should be and what we ought to do to get it.

Hope there isn't any arrogance or an air superiority and me speaking now, but I'm only speaking directly to those who are able to identify the disconnect and might seem a bit lost by this, so here it goes... Whatever your idea of "better" might be, in whatever shade of gleaming light that keeps barely lit for you way off in the distance of your minds sight, that darkness You're feeling right now is sacrificial. Everybody's looking for a way out, some are just looking for an easier way, but if you genuinely are looking for something very particular, I don't know. Maybe somewhere between secret and taboo, here's the answer. You have to keep a part of you yourself change away in some small shack, kept hidden far from the world and that's the trick, hidden, not kept from! Pain is inevitable. You display it, you become either the laughing stock, a pity party, or worse. Worse yet, you become forgotten. People are always looking at others wondering how they did it, if they even have what it takes to do it, but it's so damn simple and it's making me cry that its only just hitting you now. What I'm trying to say is, when YOU decide how much of you you're willing to stifle, mute, mutilate etc, and intentionally not grow or heal or improve it, THEN you're allowed the room to grow the rest of you. Ps- I hope you found this in time I wish I would've. Aaron

Bukowski was abused as a boy. I think this poem narrates how writing about his pain, trauma, and twisted psyche that resulted from his childhood is what connects with people. His suffering made him the artist he is to speak with authority about the dark impulses and experiences of humans, especially men in our society with particular backgrounds and experiences.

Heavenly Soulmates Amongst the Cosmost. The cellustrial creator, Dips into metaphysical energy, forces and drawals a handful. then manipulates, forms, and shapes a celestial entity. This entity is to embark on the grandest journey. To become conscious. Beforehand, it's divided in to halfs. Then thrusted and binded into two separate, and physical organic anatomys. From here fourth on. the two half will search for one another. Tis is the great test. Pain, suffering, and miss direction. This will be the Instruments implemented Against, the aforementioned Halfs. A testament to their own existence. Will the knowledge , and awareness of knowing deep from with in they are a half of a whole. Who are living with whores or no woman at all :D Takže než žít jako vy... To je ta první varianta, tak žiju radši tu druhou a to taky jenom kvůli vám! Dokud vy budete v mém okolí, budu sám! Je to neuvěřitelné, ale je to fakt! Tohle jste opravdu dokázali. To vám musím nechat! Ale nic netrvá věčně. Ani vy... Takže já budu sám... A pak jednou, až vy nebudete v mém okolí, já budu žít šťastně a poklidně. Opravdu! Protože jste jenom nemocný. A duševním chorobám, jak je známo, neporučíš.

Bukowski is proof that Persistance is more important than talent...His poems are ok, but they're just basic...there's no mystery to his writings....he was one of those writers that just kept putting himself out there until someone saw him and took a chance on him...I only got 2/3 into the novel women before i gave up...I couldn't deal with the misogyny....he's not for everybody and definately not for me....

@@darkpoetik5375 There's an interview where he pretty much hits his wife in it too. He definitely had psychotic episodes. It's a grim look into a different part of society. Someone who was abused, becoming an abuser. He was unfiltered and smart, but also insane and abusive. I think that's who he resonates with the most though, the abused, the people who never were happy. Personally, I love some of his poetry because of the nihilism, and then the hope in others; the duality of the absurdist struggle. But he's such a troubled person that it's hard to be a fan in that sense.
