In this video we show you how to fix blossom end rot in your vegetable garden. Blossom end rot can easily take out an entire harvest, in our case we have some major blossom end rot in our tomatoes, squash and zucchini. Thanks for watching and enjoy!

Hi Yield Limestone - amzn.to/3PyJQeq
A little about us:
In September 2015, our hearts were hijacked with the dream of living on a large farm, with community, growing food, caring for animals and loving on children in need of care and healing. It was a God moment, where our dreams collided with His dreams… a dream so big we could never do it in our own strength and wisdom. Since then, we have been on a journey to see that dream become a reality. This channel documents that journey.

In my area, near Melbourne, Australia, our soil usually has enough calcium so the most common reason for blossom end rot is intermittent watering. If the soil dries out, the calcium becomes "locked up" and is not accessible to the plant. This doesn't appear to be the problem in your case. I have heard that if you mix one pint of full cream milk with one gallon of water and water your plants with that, the calcium is immediately available whereas I think that adding lime might take a little while to be effective.

Poor watering practices are actually the most common reason in most places. Soil is rarely deficient in calcium, though it can happen. Sandy soils are more prone to both calcium deficiency and watering problems. Deficiency may be more likely to occur in a raised bed system like the one in the video, because the bed may not be filled with actual soil. Both the squash and the tomatoes in the video appear a little pale and yellowish to me. They might have other nutrient issues as well. Personally, I would use gypsum rather than agricultural lime in this situation, as it would be less likely to affect pH. Tomatoes prefer a slightly acid soil and boosting the pH too much with lime may impair absorption of other nutrients. It's also worth mentioning that tomatoes have very large, shallow root systems, so the material doesn't really need to be placed right at the base of the plant. You can't judge the size of the root system by what gets pulled out of the ground at the end of the season as most of the roots are actually left behind when you do that. Also not mentioned but crucial is that you need to be sure to use agricultural lime or garden lime. These products are ground limestone as described. Quicklime and masonry lime are quite different and will fry the plants. Expensive anecdotal sources of calcium like eggs, tums, or milk are not better and will likely provide less calcium as well as being substantially more expensive.

I used Peroxide 1 teaspoon to a gallon of water and it works quicker! You can still add the lime including calcium carbonate.

I've grown the same variety of tomato 3 years in a row. The first year I had a beautiful plant with gorgeous fruits. Last year and this year nothing but blossom end rot. And it's the only tomato plant with end rot. Good thing I like variety because my other plants are doing great, even if they are a couple weeks behind yours (from the looks of it). My yellow zucchini I've harvested several squash from already and the plants are HUGE!!

Best to initially treat the tomatoes with a Lime Slurry. That way you get the Calcium into the roots for uptake. Add some Phosphorus too.

We save all our egg shells. Dry them in the oven and grind them into powder then add them to garden soil. Cleared up our end rot.

Because blossom end rot is caused by a calcium deficiency, could you grind egg shells and add it to the soil?

You can use it in water to store eggs for decades without refrigeration. But cannot use store bought eggs. They cannot be washed off.

So was your soil acidic? Mine was alkaline (8.3-8.7 range), so I had to lower my ph a little. Then I did the calcium spary and I put cal-mag in the soil. I;m hoping it works and I caught it in time. I should also note that it was only my self wicking cattle tubs and not the other larger 12x4 raised bed.
