True story, when I first started playing in resin, I had no idea what mold release was. Saw a few vids and was using WD, as release agent, so a lot of my first pieces had that effect 😊

I think the effect it gives in the resin is amazing, the little cells were beautiful, especially the two square necklaces, especially once they had been domed on both sides. You make such gorgeous pieces Steve. God bless you and all those you love. Have a great weekend!

I'm new to resin and have been enjoying Steve's videos so much that I've also recommended him in several of my Facebook groups. Unfortunately I received private feedback that he refuses to answer questions unless someone is a member of his private group which requires payment. Many content providers I follow also have private groups but this is something I have never heard of and was so very disappointing.

Can you use silicone liquid in resin like you can do in acrylic pours?
@fairyspunfibers9098
@fairyspunfibers9098 Жыл бұрын
@Prepper Girl You can, indeed, and you will get cells. 😊 A word of caution: don't use too much! If you are making little pieces of jewelry or even coasters, put a drop of silicone onto your work mat, then dip a toothpick into it and just *touch" the resin where you want a cell. The cell GROWS, however, so it's easy to overdo it. I want to say Steve has a video on this, but...?

I spent a weekend about 3 years ago “testing” EVERYTHING under my sinks and on my shelves in the garage in resin. Every chemical and cleaning agent, paint type, some spices and foods, and ANYTHING with an alcohol or an oil base. I wanted to see what happened. {I did look up reaction possibilities online} I was amazed at some of the effects and affects of household items. WD40 is one of my FAVORITES!!!

So, as in acrylic pouring, oil doesn't mix with water. The oil in the WD40 (which is silicone after all of the other stuff has off-gassed), ends up being pure silicone. Now, silicone mixes with water, but also decreases surface tension, which is why cells form in acrylic pours if it's done correctly. Otherwise, cells can be created by alcohol or even water because cell formation is about breaking surface tension in the end. The "flicking" from a stiff brush disrupts the surface tension and creates "cells". I would challenge you to try making cells by a forceful (because resin is thick) interjection of both alcohol as well as water. If you flick alcohol (91% is likely best for this) from a stiff brush just after pouring so that the surface tension of the last color poured is disrupted to make a "cell", will it work the same as in an acrylic pour? Would be very interesting to find out. Yay! Another experiment.

Using your lighter won't make the mold & resin stick when you go to unmold it? I'm thinking a torch will make it fuse together & the lighter won't. Let me know what your thought is please

Is there a chemical that you can spray over your uncured piece that will give a nice blur effect? Like all the colors bleed together and no sharp edges, but a very blurry look.

Hello from Greece. Steve your videos have been wonderful, I have learnt such a lot. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.. I'm a beginner and have so much to learn. I do need some help on an issue. My resin is never clear. it always dries with tiny little bubbles. I stir for 10 minutes, at a medium pace. I use a heat gun for the bigger bubbles. but alas when dried....full if bubbles. what am I doing wrong ? Anyone's help would be appreciatec.

@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts thank you so much Steve. I'll try stir for less time. The resin i use is very thin, it's a 100:60. It cures in 24hrs. Again thank you for taking the time to answer me. 🤗🤗🤗
