Tony himself used to live in this scarcity mindset, allowing money to terrorize him. As a young man living in a 400-square-foot apartment in Venice, California, Tony was broke. He had $26 to his name. He thought he might as well walk to the local all-you-can-eat buffet and store up for winter. He watched the boats go by, dreaming of what life could be like and felt his anger dissipating. His mindset started to shift. He started thinking about all the things he wanted, instead of what he didn’t want.
At that moment, a little boy came in with his mother. He held the door, pulled out her chair. Tony was impressed by his presence and gave him the last money in his pocket. He says, “I didn’t walk out that door, I flew.” When he got home, he got an envelope in the mail. It was money his friend owed him.
What did it mean? It means that whenever you give, it’s always going to come back. The secret to living is giving, because the rewards will be greater than you could ever imagine. The realization that there is something inside you that goes beyond all of your limits is transformational.
