Morningtown Ride (Australian Farewell Tour 2013 / Live)
‘Morningtown Ride’ featured on THE SEEKERS - FAREWELL

Superb vocal performances from The Seekers on this timeless children’s lullaby from Malvina Reynolds. The harmony vocals are complex, and the boys’ intonation spot-on with Judith taking the lead.

When we were nippers we all knew the words to this fabulous song didn't we? Our mums and dads used to sing it to us. I feel that a part of my childhood has gone now we've lost the lovely Judith Durham. She was and will always be a vocal legend. RIP Judith.

Learnt this song as a 5yo at primary school. We sang it for our end of year concert. Hard to believe that was 46 years ago. Still know the words and have a great appreciation of the seekers.

I just came across an old CD with a compilation of 23 Seeker songs on it. I thought, what a pity -- so many good songs and such mediocre recording. So I checked out KZfaq to see if there was anyone else doing the songs these days. Imagine my surprise when I came across the Australian farewell tour! It's amazing how well Judith Durham's voice, not to mention everyone else's voices and instrumental skills, have held up over the years. The original performances were probably just a wee bit better, I suppose, but with the advances in recording, these newer renditions knock the spots off the older tracks. It's been a wonderful experience listening to all these songs again -- brought a tear to my eye to see Judith still able to sing probably nearly as well as ever!

Every time I listen to this, I get a bit emotional because it takes me back to my childhood. I'm currently 17 and I grew up on The Wiggles' version of this song, I honestly had no idea it was a cover lol. When I finally discovered this, the original, I was just overcome by happiness and nostalgia. Such a timeless song, and these guys sound incredible live!

They’re even better in person. I too grew up with this song - Mum sang it as a lullaby to me over 45 years ago. I was fortunate to see them and hear them sing this live back in 1999.

Mate, you probably know by now that Judith has had lung problems virtually all her life, and at the start of this farewell tour she was extremely sick. I can finally tell here that her voice is suffering a little bit, but she still sounds astonishing, all things considered. I've loved her for 58 years, since I was thirteen, and it looks like being for ever now.

I can't help comparing them with that other long lived band, The Searchers, who I've also been a big fan of all these years. Difference is, The Seekers did their best, right up to the end, to sound like their records, and they succeeded. Improvisation is great, I suppose, but the fans want to hear it a certain way, and that's that really. Perhaps the Searchers didn't deliberately improvise, but to me they got sloppy, for instance they could get into a singalong thing with the audience clapping mindlessly, the drummer driving things along with a hell of a racket, and musicality, and the feel of the song, would be lost. Harsh perhaps, but it would never happen with the Seekers, even on what Judith would call a "Party Time" song.
