I remember telling my husband and friends when they suggested seeing this, "Oh, a prison movie - not at the top of my list". I left the theatre in tears; completely overwhelmed by its beauty and wishing I had worn waterproof mascara. I really enjoyed your reaction, and really, really appreciate that you didn't need to feel the need to pause every 60 seconds to make a comment, or talk over the movie with a constant stream of chatter, as so many other do - bless you for that and keep up the good work!

Thank you for saying all this! One of the reasons I always watch George's videos is that he doesn't have to talk ALL THE WAY THROUGH THE MOVIE and react to EVERY tiny little thing and make constant predictions about what's going to happen next. I've stopped watching a lot of reactors because they have no sense of when to talk and react and when to watch. Half of them don't even know what's going on in the film because they talk during the exposition. George is the Best!!!!

Four years after getting out of prison, this movie began to heal me. So many lines of dialogue just break my soul every time I watch it. "I guess I just miss my friend", "....I go to the park and feed the birds and think Jake might show up and say hello. He never does.", "They say the Pacific has no memory", "Whatever mistakes I made, I've paid for them and then some", "Hope is a good thing", "I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope".

This movie easily can be called the best movie that ever came out of Hollywood. Fantastic and extremely emotional dialog. Top rate movie actors at the top of their game. Stunning cinematography and an absolutely haunting story. What is just as good as the movie itself is this gentleman’s beautiful and emotional reaction and critique of this film. What a joy to see his reaction and how this movie effected him on such a personal level. Not to be passed over is the fact that there are a few more movies that were adapted from this master known as Stephen King that are on a list of Hollywood greats. You can also add the movie masterpieces of the likes of the emotionally heart wrenching “The Green Mile”. The haunting “Shining”. The powerful drama “Deloris Claiborne” and The deliciously devilish “Misery”. All cinematic powerhouses in their own way. Along with the viewing of Misery and Deloris Claiborne you will also get a treat as you witness the unbelievable and stunning Oscar winning performance of the great Kathy Bates. Would love to see your reactions to the other Stephen King films. Thanks again for your gifted and emotional reaction to this film. It was just as good as the film itself. Powerful!

The warden was holding the bible with the rock hammer in it when they searched Andy's cell. When the warden handed the bible back to Andy, the warden said "salvation lies within." That's the significance of the note Andy writes in the bible when he leaves it in the warden's safe. The rock hammer lay within.

Well I prefer Shawshank because even if it's a great movie, I regret the "magical" side of the green mile... It's part of the story, I cry when I see it, but I don't believe in that magic, so it's also "just" a fairy tale to me... Whether S.R. is realistic, it's plausible, it's like you really lived with the men. It could have really happen. It makes the story more relatable to the real life.

I had the great fortune to meet Bob Gunton, The Warden, in Las Vegas back in 2017. He was one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. He loves meeting with fans and will talk about literally anything. It’s too bad he frequently plays villains but he’s so good when he does. He’s also well known for his excellent episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation where he played Captain Maxwell in “The Wounded”. Also did you notice that Boggs was played by the same actor who played Vasquez’s friend Drake in ALIENS? Great reaction as always! 🖖🏻 P.S. Brooks was a member of the scientific hearing in the original “Planet of the Apes”. He was the orangutan next to Dr. Zaus!

I know a lot of reactors have done Schindler's List, but I have to say if you haven't seen it, you must. It's right up there with Shawshank Redemption. Saving Private Ryan is also tremendous. Hailed by vets as having the most realistic battle scenes of all time. And a great film to boot, based on a true story, stellar cast. For a deeper cut, I recommend "Patton." George C. Scott "The Way Back", about an escape from a Siberian gulag "The Great Escape", based on the true story of a several hundred man escape attempt from a WWII prison camp. Steve McQueen, James Garner and other great stars. What can I say, I love war movies, and escape movies, especially if they're based on a true story. And road pictures and limits of human endurance stories. "The Man Who Would Be King" is another soft spot in my heart, not least for the chemistry between Michael Cane and Sean Connery. They became lifelong friends. Based on a Rudyard Kipling book. Oh! "African Queen"! Bogart and Hepburn

One of my favorite things about this movie is the little parole hearings for Red. When the movie first starts, he has no real hope of getting out, and is just going through the motions of saying he's rehabilitated. This is something the parole board picks up on, and they feel he isn't genuine. This is true for a lot of the prisoners. You see that in the way they joke about it being "up for rejection" and how he says the same thing every time. After Andy leaves, it changes. Instead of just going with what's expected, he says what he actually feels and the parole board can feel that.

I'm glad you loved it! The problem was that it was not a theatrical success because no-one wanted to see a "Depressing Prison movie" but when it hit video store shelves, people were stunned. A powerfull, sometimes very voilent , cruel and heavy , and sweet movie that will never age to this day. I truly masterful film from the cast and crew👍👍👍👍👍

George, thank you for both a highly intelligent and emotional reaction. I'll definitely look for your other reactions. Incidentally, Brooks was played by one of America's most distinguished screen actors, Richard Widmark. He was 73 when he appeared as Brooks. He lived another 20 years. And I'll add my recommendation to others' here for The Green Mile. Very different from Shawshank but from the same author and the same director. If you used a box of tissues for Shawshank, bring two for Green Mile.

I’m sorry. Brooks was not played by Richard Widmark. He was played by James Whitmore.

I just wanted to congratulate you on doing such a great editing job. You kept all the relevant parts of the story and also thank you so much for not talking all the way through with lots of long pauses. Very refreshing. The story is one of Stephen King's finest, in my opinion and is very emotional and a masterpiece of film making. Now you need to do The Green Mile, if you haven't already. Another Stephen King of equal quality in every way. A superb film and amazing story and set in another prison. Oh, I see a lot of requests for The Green Mile and I am not surprised. Another of Stephen King's is Dolores Claiborne, a magnificent film .

Best film in history, great acting, perfect script, superb narration, fabulous message etc etc. To get a good idea, my second favourite film is Gladiator but that is only 9 out of 10. Shawshank Redemption is 20 out of 10

When Red comes to Buxton, you comment on how amazing the soundtrack is. Did you notice that it's in this scene, when Red is walking through the beautiful landscape as a free man, that the sound of a harmonica is first heard on the soundtrack?

CloseUp,Brook’s scene breaks everybody down. Makes you wonder how often that is the case. Even if he’s guilty and belonged in prison, still sad

Shawshank Redemption is in my opinion the best film ever made. Sure I have favourite movies like the original Star Wars ... but when people ask me which is the best movie ever?... I always tell them Shawshank!

Ok dude. I'm at the end of your reaction and it's probably the best to this film I've seen. I love this film, I cry every time, I'm a old dude, 50 and quite tough, but SSR melts me. I get more upset at the end. Because the reunion between red and Andy is what you just summed up beautifully. And that's hope.. Its tears of happiness for me, and I've come to realise that hope is a good thing. Its why it's 1 on IMDB... One of the greatest films ever made. So glad I found your channel bro.. I hope this finds you well..😉🤘💙🙏

Thank you so much for this wonderful review ☺♥. Shawshank is so sad but ultimately uplifting. We all need hope and good friends, especially when the world around us seems so cruel, unfair and unkind. Every day I wake up and hope for a better world, where kindness will dominate and hate will have no place at all.

A guy in law school named Ron introduced the title as his number #1 movie and eventually saw the movie. Thankfully, I showed this movie to my father and put this along with Citizen Kane. Recency bias nudges me to always fall back Shawshank from the raw emotion it elicits. This reminds us not to forget the human side to life and puts our perspective on knowing what's important in life versus what we may believe to be the case. Friendship forged in the confines of a prison can truly last a lifetime. . .

Great reaction bro.. A well produced movie for its time. The soundtrack track is heart soaring and beautiful, composed by my favorite movie score writer, Thomas Newman...so many beautiful movie scores...another favorite movie with his music is "Road To Perdition" with Tom Hanks. It's about an Irish Mafia in the 40s, not sure, but Tom plays a hit man running from The mob with his son...once again, great music, great story. 💙🌺
