The scene where Red is throwing the ball took like 12 hours to film. Morgan came in the next day with a sling but never complained from the stories I've read. You're definitely gonna get a lot of requests for The Green Mile, but another movie you should add to your list is Stand By Me....another Steven King story brought to the big screen. Great coming to age flick!

Noticed after many rewatches how the subtle pieces of writing have meaning. Brooks says “So they’ll send me back home.” Red just says “So they’ll send me back.” He’s not as far gone as Brooks was.

Still one of the best movie endings I've ever seen. And consider: Andy started his escape plan almost as soon as he got into prison. For 19 years, he worked on it, planned it out, changed it, refined it, and finally executed it flawlessly, getting his revenge as well. And in all those years, he never said a single word or even hinted about it to anyone, not even Red. Hugely impressive. Thanks for the video and reaction.

The original ending, which matched the novella's, would have been better. It ends on Red's _"I hope..."_ line. It doesn't even matter whether Red did make it to Zihuatanejo. His redemption is made complete by learning how to feel hope again. And for anyone who thinks that it is Andy's redemption that is referred to in the title, that doesn't make much sense. Andy was not guilty of anything more than being a distant husband; he didn't need redemption. It was Red's redemption that the whole story is about.

In the novella, they give that as one reason why Andy did so much for the prison warden. He was in a single-occupancy cell on the end and didn’t want to get moved.

The best movie ever made, and the best of all time! Before Tim Robbins was cast as Andy, Harrison Ford, Kevin Costner, Johnny Depp and Charlie Sheen were considered. Robert Duvall, Paul Newman, Clint Eastwood and Robert Redford were considered for Red, the films narrator. Rob Reiner, Was considered to direct the film until Frank Darabont was picked. The movie made $73 million dollars against a $25 million dollar budget. It was nominated for 8 Oscars including Best Picture but lost 6 to Forrest Gump. The film made it's TV Debut on TNT and TBS in 1997, then made it's VHS debut where it sold 320,000 copies, thus gaining a cult following.

Shawshank and Forrest Gump always battle for first place, but we can all agree that both are amazing. We are fortunate to have many of the "old" actors, the stage actors, the theater actors still with us, but it won't be long until they're all gone and we're left with shit like Ryan Gosling or Zendeya..

The original ending of the movie ended with red on the bus. The studio made them go back and add in the scene where they meet on the beach because they didn’t like an open ending so it was one of the rare times when a studio intervened in a film and made it infinitely better. This is my favorite movie of all time. Ive literally watched it hundreds of times and can quote the dialogue for the entire thing. Turner used to show this on tbs or tnt like 5 times a week when I was younger and I stopped to watch it every time I saw it when I was flipping through the channels. This is right up there with the back to the future trilogy on the list of movies that should never be remade.

Can you just imagine what it was like for Brooks when he got out? The only equivalent is if you were suddenly placed on Mars, and you had no idea how to survive. When he went in, the automobile, telephone, and air travel weren't even a thing for the average person. When he got out 50 years later, we were gearing up to put a man on the moon.

yes! one of the very few examples of a perfect film. and to clear something up: Andy wasn't just upset about not being freed after Tommy was murdered, he was upset about a young man losing his life because of the warden's corruption. Andy truly cared about Tommy; you can see it in his face when he found out that he passed the exam. my only qualm about this movie is that I wish the warden would have been captured so he could truly suffer in prison for what he did, rather than taking the easy way out. thanks for the great reaction Eddie! ❤

Great writing obviously but another great detail is everything outside the prison is green & lush whilst everything inside the walls is grey & Stark the scene where Andy arrives shows this well but perhaps the best example is when they are doing the roof as you get a good view. It's amazing direction/scenework showing the extreme contrast between outside being all fresh and clean while the inside is old, dirty & drab with not one blade of green grass. Beautiful movie which is arguably the best story of hope and overcoming adversity ever put on screen.

I remember when this movie came out. I went to see it because I had read the story in Stephen King's book. I fell in love with the movie and yet it basically tanked at the box office. It's when it came out on VHS that it started gaining momentum. People would rent it on Friday night and then tell everybody they knew and they would rent it and it snowballed from there, to become one of the (if not THE) greatest movie of all time and the highest rated on IMDB. And by the way, good prison escape / revenge story... Count of Monte Cristo...

To me, it made no sense that an inebriated Andy would be able to count out and load each chamber of his gun with the exact amount of bullets when he couldn't even load the initial bullets while sitting in his car. He dropped most of the ammunition on the ground, including his whisky bottle. I enjoy Stephen King novels and the film adaptations. I usually read his books before watching the films. There are a few Stephen King film adaptations not many people have seen but should consider watching: "Thinner", "Needful Things", "Salem's Lot", "Sleepwalkers". "Cujo" was better as a novel, as the film adaptation was almost a different story, which disappointed me. The film version of "Cujo" was sanitized and the dark ending was changed to an "uplifting" one. Your analysis was excellent. I enjoyed your reaction. Great job!

The bible verse Andy quoted in his first scene with the warden had a double meaning. The most obvious one is that the warden is the "master of the house." The prisoners have to stay on their guard to avoid getting into trouble. It very specifically applies to tossing the cells- you never know when he's coming, and you'd better be ready (and not doing anything you shouldn't) when he does. But ultimately (and in the context of the actual biblical text) it's about the fact that you might be able to get away with doing bad things for a while, but ultimately the master of the house (God) will come and you will have to answer for your actions one way or the other. The warden has been able to exploit the prisoners unchecked for decades since none of them have the power to oppose or expose him. But by the end, everything comes to light, as it always does, and he has to answer for what he did.

Originally they didn't show it, the film ended with the bus driving down the road and Red's voiceover "I hope." Test audiences were furious they did get to find out if Red made it so they shot the beach scene and added it to the end. Personally, I think the film would have been more powerful with the original ending since the whole thing was about Andy espousing the power of hope.

Although I'd had prefer the "original" edit. I note something rarely mentioned: they didn't show the actual meet. They "just" pictured the hope Red have in his mind, watch the color difference, the lack of dialogue, the "unreal" setup: empty beach, just the two of us, flashy colors, no word. It's not the actual meeting, it's the picture of Red's "hope"... So it's faithful to the story, they just hint the average viewer, but it seems it's not really understood like that, almost everybody just take this last shot as reality. And particularly those who complain about this last shot, should instead take it as it is: Red's imagination, Red's hope.

'The Skeleton Key' from 2005 is a nice and creepy mystery horror type film for the month of October I'd recommend you put on your list for one day.

Greatest. Movie. Ever. First of 3 Frank Darabont adaptations of a Stephen King book. Next you should do - The Green Mile and then The Mist.

Give "Searching for Bobby Fischer" or "Rob Roy" a try. Nobody ever reacts to these but they're up there at the top of my favorites list right along with this movie. Here's some other great ones worth the time to watch "Dances with Wolves" - "Dead Poets Society" - "Before Sunrise"

It's been that way with almost all the films I've watched on the channel so far. I just pay really close attention to details and I have been creating stories (through RPGs) my whole life. So I watch movies differently, looking for plot hooks, twists, the different perspectives of various characters etc. The problem with this is that it leads people to think I've seen the movies before. Ohh well. Also, some movies are just predictable.

Red's crime isn't touched on in the movie but it is in the book the movie is based on, Red is responsible for the death of 3 people 1 intentionally 2 accidentally, he found out his gf had a hefty life insurance policy so cut the breaks on her car the accident killed her the neighbour and the neighbours kid

Thanks. I'm up for watching whatever the people want based on the feedback from the polls. Except no musicals or Horror for copyright/monetization issues.
