The upside of working for Kubrick: you'll be amazing and unforgettable on screen. The downside of working for Kubrick: he'll drive you insane while you're working with him. Is it any wonder not a single actor starred on more than one of his movies?

@@Johnston212 The audiobook is a bit slow, as King is basically reading a text-book/autobiography to you, slowly, but I enjoyed it for what it was. Spoilers: King says two major things: Imagine that writing is a form of telepathy, and remember that if you want to be a writer, you must write-write-write, every day. The rest of the book is probably the closest we will get to a traditional autobiography.

One of my favorite fun facts between the movie and the book: “Come play with us, Danny,” is in the book, but the twins aren’t in it. In the book, it’s a disembodied voice coming from cement tubes in the hotel playground. It comes after an intense scene where Danny crawls around in them and snow traps him. Also, while “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy” isn’t in the book, it IS in “Pet Sematary.”

Shelley Duvall is great in this film. One great piece of acting with convincing emotion is where she goes to lift up the bonnet of the snowcat when planning her escape, and pulls out the dismantled engine part that Jacks destroyed and holds it to her chest. The look on her face and the emotion she gives is so naturally convincing, it really is that of a woman mentally desperate who could just cry. This is when as a viewer you really feel for her situation. Great acting

Hell, Jack Nicholson praised her for her role, saying it was the most difficult role he had seen anyone take on; needless to say, Nicholson, Duvall and Scatman Crothers NEVER worked with Kubrick again (and Jack Nicholson even turned down the role that went to James Caan in Misery, another King adaptation, because he had negative memories of this movie). With regards to Crothers' death scene, Kubrick had him shoot take after take of it until Crothers finally yelled at Kubrick "What do you want from me?!?" Man, this movie. I grew up with this movie and loved the hell out of it as a kid (we'd been having Scary Movie Nights since I was a toddler). It was shocking to find out Stephen King hated this movie. Then I found out why and I wasn't shocked anymore.

Had to watch The Shining with my twelve year old after realizing during Doctor Sleep that she'd never seen it, and didn't know what was going on. She's thoroughly engrossed, when suddenly the Wednesday title card booms onto the screen, and she jumps. Hard. I had to hit pause til I stopped laughing. After the movie ends, she says it wasn't that scary. Me- Except for Wednesday! Her- Please stop.

Bullshit… Just like the shining it would have been blasted by people pretty much like you who would’ve talked about how unfaithful it was and how much it didn’t make sense. That’s what happen when the shining came out it is only become a classic because now everybody tells you it’s OK to like it.
@Thegr8MC
@Thegr8MC 3 жыл бұрын
@@evilsWa You think I would have hated it because of source material deviations and becasue people originally didn't like Shining? I personally doubt that. I mean, I liked the first Silent Hill movie which was admittedly terrible and heavily deviated from the source. Hell, I love all the new Star Wars movies which the fandom seems to despise and heavily breaks from the original established canon. What I'm trying to say is, I give movies a chance and I try to judge them fairly beyond the initial reaction. That, and I'm generally more positive when critiquing. I prioritize looking for things to praise over things to criticize. I kind of lost my train of thought there, I only responded because yo assumed what I would or wouldn't like. But I hope at least something I said makes sense to you?

The Shining is also one of my favorite horror films of all time, and that's thanks to the music, the cinematography, the pacing, the sets, the editing, and the acting, including that of Master of Awesome, Jack Nicholson. I'd totally move into an apartment building with a lounge that has a pool table. 13:37- Yeah, I know the feeling. 14:21- I can relate to Jack when it comes to focusing one one thing and having to be interrupted with another thing. 17:04- ...Until the Doctor Sleep film came around. 26:09- Proving that since their first year, The Razzies really suck. I take it that an episode of 9-1-1: Lone Star - Season 2 is gonna be like the movie Volcano, starring Tommy Lee Jones. I have a copy of the two-disc special edition DVD of The Shining, which also has the "Here's Johnny!" still-shot. NINJA AVENGERS?! GODDAMMIT, GODFREY HO!!! An epic horror masterpiece from start to finish. It has the perfect soundtrack to go along, its eerie and creepy. Even though the story is clear, it still leaves you with so many unanswered questions. Shelly doesn't get enough credit for this movie, she nailed it as someone who is damaged and confused. Off course she had to go through a tough challenge with Kubrick but it gave us so many unforgettable moments. Its kinda funny that her character is a fan of horror films, oh boy, towards the end she gets the horror film of her life. People have come up with so many theories or analyses which are interesting although the moonlanding theory is ridiculous. Rob Ager debunked it thankfully. Plus I like the scene with Grady, he never blinks....creepy. Oh yeah, are there 2 old ladies in room 237? Why does it cut to her in the bathtub slowly rising up? Maybe its a twin, even the hair is shorter....no idea, this film messes with you.
