The Shirogorov Hati is an incredible pocketknife by the Shirogorov Brothers, some great knifemakers out of Russia. Although it's a big knife for EDC, 3.75" blade, it's beautifully made, with an incredible action on washers.
Aside from one issue with the design of the lockbar and a few minor nitpicks, it's a really great knife, and it's a rock solid Russian Gem.

The knife is on a bushing imo, as opposed to a washer. Terminology I suppose but I can see why this construction makes for a very smooth knife.

The lock stays put for a very long time on the Shirogorovs. Hence, I've experienced extremely little wear unlike knives like Strider where their lock faces wear out like a hot stick of butter.

Hey Nick, nice review! The hati is incredibly smooth, and if you polish the pivot or the washers, it becomes just as smooth as a bearing knife. Another thing to note, I wouldn't worry about the lock bar insert as it won't wear as quickly as a regular Ti framelock since steel on steel doesn't have stick to enhance the wear, and the insert is harder than most titanium. The life of the Hati's lockbar insert should surpass the Bowie. But either way, they should both still last a very long time.

Nick, I am a bit perplexed how you can say that $550.00 is not bad for a knife. To be honest I am not a knife person; I like them as much as the next guy. I started viewing your channel because of your watch reviews. And I sort of agree with your logic about Swiss mechanical watches being overpriced. Your being point is that a watch is a tool to tell time and that for most people that's all the matters. But isn't that the case for knives as well? I have a Spyderco knife that I think I paid about $40.00 and it works just fine. I would not even entertain paying the kind of price that the Shirogorov costs. So how do you justify paying about 13 times more for a knife and not for a watch? After all I think you will agree that far more work and attention to detail goes into making a fine mechanical watch than making any knife. Thanks for the nice video!

Also when talking about "washer" knives being smooth... I polished the internals of my PM2 a little bit... That thing flops when the lock is disengaged. I mean, I hold the knife and disengage the lock, it falls closed... It's scary/frustrating that I have a PM2 that falls shut when closing, but has that light hydraulic smoothness when opening and can flick open no trouble either... It's like a magic PM2...
@NickShabazz
@NickShabazz 8 жыл бұрын
The PM2 can get beautifully drop-shutty too, no doubt. That's why the Junior made me so sad: They could have given me that joy.

/u/sancho_v_of_castille or however it is spelled sent me his Junior he was getting customized... That thing was very smooth too. When in doubt? Buff it out. Or for a ghetto break in that works well, a little flitz in the pivot and a hundred openings will smooth everything out like crazy after everything gets cleaned back out.

In all honesty, I think these Shiro's are very nice knives. BUT, when I look at construction of Hinderer, I see my Hinderer w/ 3 big Ti screws, 3 bigger copper standoffs, and a fairly nice sized pivot, AND a Ti liner for the G-10 side, (which I really like). I guess it's my inferiority complex at work. But those Shiro's are smooth, and slender, and Bu-T-Full!
@NickShabazz
@NickShabazz 8 жыл бұрын
+Randall Kelley It's a very different aesthetic but I'm a big fan of the strong build on Hinderer's, that's true. I just wish they had the action right.

They're not easy to find because there is much more demand than there is supply so things sell out quick. You can often find them on bladeforums used and recon1 will sometimes have them for sale new www.recon1.com/shop/production-knives/shop-by-manufacturer/shirogorov.html

The dealer is well known on BladeForums. He lives in Russia, and buys direct from Shirogorov's workshop. Both knives I purchased came brand new in box with cloth and certificate. His name on BF is Vladimir_K. His feedback page is below. Shoot him a PM and tell him what you want. It won't be cheap, but it'll be NIB. 😀 www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/1154375-Vladimir_k-thumbs-up!?highlight=Vladimir_k

It falls shut because the lock bar pressure is light, if CRK wanted that early lockup yes they can easily make a knife that falls shut. Falling shut to me is personal preference and not the absolute sign of a better design.
@anthonyb2990
@anthonyb2990 6 жыл бұрын
Dapdoi Ardon No it's a sign of an unsafe lock;) on most knives mid to early lockup is fine but since CRK invented the framelock I think he knows what's best, a late lockup. I've never seen one that had an issue when it came to locking up too late. And even if it does happen you can just send it back in for free.

Yep. There's definitely a bit of a Shirogorov bubble going on now, particularly on the secondary market. But it's a very high quality production knife, so it's not as bad as the Hinderer bubble or similar.
