Thom your channel is always informative and professionally done. As one of the only humans to have seen Mallory, your commentary is always riveting and something I look forward to. I do not always agree with your opinions, but I 100% agree that discussing things with people we disagree with broadens both of our prospectives and educates us all. I am looking forward to this series in this uniquely historic anniversary year. Thank you for all your hard work.

Thom....You have no idea, but you changed my life, brother! That NOVA documentary changed my life and the lives of my trekking friends! It inspired us to start climbing mountains! Still think Mallory should have chosen Odell as his climbing partner that day! I'm convinced it was Irvine's inexperience that got them killed on their descent! I think they made it, but as you know thats only half the climb! Most climbing accidents happen on the way back down! Anyway...Love, love, love your channel Thom! On a personal note...Much respect and admiration for you Thom Pollard! Your contributions to mountaineering cannot be overstated! Thanks for your continued inspiration Brother! Cheers Mate!

@@EverestMystery thank you for revisiting this. I was baited into watching your video after I watch the short about people asking you how it feels to look at the face of George Mallory. And I have been interested ever since to see if you ever talked about that phenomenonal experience. Of meeting a man who died 100 years ago, in 1924. (I thought most of the people who meet him has died. considering his son and daughters also died soon in the 2000s>. A lot of people been covering about the 1999 George Mallory footage. and how the mummified body is still intact. I'm curious to see your take about it sir.

8:09 that has to be one of the most beautiful shots taken high on Everest: the shadow of the Mother Goddess of the Earth, the pastel colours, the spectacle of all the other immense peaks somehow looking little in comparison to her. Extrodinary! Thank you for continuing to share your knowledge & thoughtfulness with us, Thom. I told my Mum two days ago that its the 100 year anniversary of the 1924 British climb, her jaw dropped. We love exploration & mountineering but we both have chronic fatigue, & I have severe chronic pain & am currently bedbound. So we can't climb, but, like with a lot of people, that doesn't diminish our interest in & appreciation of mountineers & all the perils those explorers have faced (perhaps, it mirrors our own struggles, here at sea-level). Thank you for your videos, your empathy, your respect for nature, & your continuing persuit of the truth behind what happened to Mallory & Irvine. Much love from Fremantle, Western Australia.

Hey Thom! Dang, it was so great to see your new video! I like your honest story about the Mallory/Irvine saga and the 1999 discovery. You have such a genuine heart and that is what first made me a true follower. I know this sounds like it’s not imaginable but, because of recent life events, I’ve been on such a tight budget that I’m barely even capable of paying bills. Will it get better?, yes it definitely will and I had never planned for such a drastic change. I will recover fully and then very lucratively. Why am I saying this? I will definitely be a paying member. Your videos have such a warmth and authenticity to them that I try to let you know about how well you do them. Thanks Thom!

Thank you so much for your content. You are so respectul when you speak about other climbers. I do have a question and hope you read this. "Knowing about the reported sightings about Sandy Irving by many expeditions over the years. Do you think there will be future expeditions to search for his body (and his Camara)?"
@skullsaintdead
@skullsaintdead 7 ай бұрын
Thom explained in a recent video with another climber & writer on webcam, that there may have already been two Chinese expeditions that discovered Irvine's remains in 1960 & 1975 (ish?). The supposition is: they found Sandy, took the camera, couldn't develop the film because it was too damaged or China maybe didn't have the technology to properly preserve the film, but the camera might be sitting in the storage rooms of a Chinese museum, according to Thoms interviewer. Check his videos for that interview.

How exciting to be asked on this expedition and what an honor! I was reminded of some constructive criticism I received at my first real job when you returned to camp V to melt water. I was told not to wait to be told what to do, but to take the initiative. That's exactly what you did, my friend, when you realized things weren't going as planned. You made yourself useful. It's advice I've passed on to my children. I can imagine the joy your wife had at finding you were alive. I'm sure it was even more than you had when Mallory was found. I remember the news well, as I had been taught in school that Mallory would never be seen again. I guess you can only trust the math teachers - sort of lol!

@@EverestMysterysir, if you have room for this topic, can you cover the reasons people do mountaineering activity despite it being dangerous?* I've seen a lot of people who says its stupid and reckless to put their lives on the line, and expect people to have sympathy. I am no mountaineer, but I still feel like that statement alone is dehumanizing. and dismissive of the reasons and dreams people have, that fuel their endless pursuit toward life. Can you touch more of this topic?* And explain what goes on?* in the mind of people who push themselves to this extent?* It is not something as simple as pride is it?*

Thanks for sharing, do you take us to the very spot in Everest, with your words we are able to experience and explore the mountain, do you enhance our senses and over the narrative one can learn first hand like the aweful misdeeds, without the need of risking our lives or getting injured, you are so wonderful telling stories that we almost feel the cold weather, the blinding snow, the lack of air, the painfully slow pace and sadly the lack of empaty towards other human beings in their time of need while dying. Everything is like a movie from Hollywood, preciate it lord, and bless your hard work.

100%....get the camera set up, let them pass, hurry up to get ahead of them, set up, film, they pass you again...then, when the good stuff happens, like a storm, you want to bury yourself in the tent and get warmed up in your sleeping bag, but know that you have to get the footage!

@EverestMystery
@EverestMystery 7 ай бұрын
Truth is, even though we made the decision together that I would go into this adventure mountaineering filmmaking career, it was extremely stressful, income would skyrocket then go silent for months at times. This is anything but a plea for sympathy. I chose it. I had numerous experiences where I probably should have lost my life (two avalanches, each where I was sure I was not going to make it)....so, the real answer to your question is that I'm no longer married my first wife (amicable, but she was no longer interested in the lifestyle). I'm glad you asked, as I will integrate this into my next video....as it did have some consequences moving forward.
