Jonathan Kay and Paul Wells both defy labels. To my mind they are Canada’s best journalists. I have great hopes for our host Aaron Pete, too. Thank you for this intelligent interview. Subscribed.

I truly believe Canadians want to make peace with indigenous peoples, but no one knows how. There’s so much diversity from sea-to-sea amongst all the First Nations, so there’s no one-size-fits-all solution is there? Different languages, different cultures, different histories.

There is not, and you’re right that Canadians overwhelming want to make peace.

Indigenous should be able to own property on the reserve. Creating equity would help them a lot.

I've been following your interviews regarding residential schools and the book, Grave Error. I think what you're doing is important but rare. Right from the start, the Kamloops story was escalated way beyond known facts. And once the press got a hold of it, it spiralled out of control. When this happens, we need open discussion to bring the narrative back to reality. However, if people aren't allowed to discuss their concerns when something isn't right (e.g. Quesnel City Council meeting) they will lose trust. It's not arch-conservatives that the movement has to fear because that group was never onside. The biggest fear of the movement should be losing their left-liberal fans by attacking instead of listening when they have legitimate concerns. To restore trust, the movement should connect the current narrative on unmarked graves to the student death records in the Truth and Reconciliation Report. If efforts are grounded in those records, then we know who we're looking for, not just chasing smoke from rumours.

Jon Kay ghostwrote Trudeau's autobiography.

So what? Not a Trudeau supporter but Kay is a terrific writer. I would want him to write my bio, too, if I were a politician. Do you want the Canadian polity to be as polarized as the USAs?

I appreciated this discussion and then I googled your guest Mr. Kay. What an hypocrite!!! He just cherry picks when to be politically correct and only concerning the topics dear to him or the narratives he likes to push.
