Balancing the budget is the easy part. Removing the absolutely massive debt that Canada now has could take generations. But only if the budget stayes balanced until its paid off. Either way Canadians are in for hard times for quite some time to come!

I'd trust a news organization way more if funded by arm length funds from a democratically elected office....whether conservative or liberal...than a news source from a private huge corporation that has its fingers in many other pies, which obviously would affect which stories are left out of the conversation.

The issue with the so-called news media is that there is too much opinion and not enough unbiased reporting on the facts. The more sensational, the better for ratings/advertising and popularity from the public. Sadly, I do not know how to improve or fix this dilemma that seeps into all news media.

I think the bias of public media isn't about funding or being worried about "biting the hand that feeds you." Seems to me it's the same problem we are seeing in many post-secondary educational institutions - the institutions self-select for progressive hires. I don't watch CBC TV, but I have been a regular listener of CBC Radio 1 for maybe 40 years or more. I grew up with Peter Gzoski, Michael Enright, Barbara Frum, etc. I can't think of a current Radio 1 host with the same depth. I can't stand the incessant outpouring of wokeness and no longer listen. Steve may be able to host a civil interview with the likes of Jordan Peterson or Glenn Loury but I challenge you to find someone at CBC who can.

Steve is normally a smart guy. Unfortunately, he seems to be fully infected with "TDS" ("Trump Derangement Syndrome") 33:25. 1. "convicted of sexual offences" - Steve should go look at the particulars of this case. Anyone who believes Trump is guilty hasn't read the particulars (for example: jury explicitly said RAPE=NO. tinyurl.com/3xz8b6rv ; but judge ignored that and declared "rape" anyway). (and note that I link to the actual COURT DOCUMENT, not some idiot media opinion piece or some such). 2. Other politicians have "collegiality for each other". Does the media have collegiality towards Trump? 3. Trump has "authoritarian tendencies"/"believe in the peaceful transfer of power"/"believe in democracy". Right now, the ruling party is: trying to get the competition thrown in jail; trying to bankrupt the competition; trying to murder the competition (see the bigoted Bennie Thompson); and rigging the next election (flooding in illegal aliens, and no ID required). Happens all the time in 3rd-world hellholes. So... who, exactly, has the "authoritarian tendencies"? I urge Steve to have another look. But like I said, I am a Paikan fanboy - a sharp guy, can think and talk on his feet, logical.... I've met him a couple of times, and watched him for decades.

Let's cut to the chase. We don't care if a journalist happens to believe in liberal or conservative ideas. We care that they will be honest and critical of the people who might implement government policies based on these biases. We care that they will be honest if they or the people they may have supported are wrong. Why? Because if a government, of any party is too corrupt, we have to look at alternatives that we may not have supported otherwise. This is the most important part of democracy. This is what the "free press" should deliver.

No. The memebers of any organization will always bow to the agenda of the funding source. period. this is because of the very real threat of a loss of funding, (which threatens the workers financial stability) thus creating Tort in the relationship. There is certainly more than enough evidence to warrant asking Trudeau some pointed questions on the matter. But CBC never has. Why not?
