The Shrieker | English Folklore

Welcome to my channel! Here you’ll find folklore from across the British isles. Tales of Black Dogs are very frequent in England, and this tale comes from Lancashire. The Shrieker, or Skriker, appears to travellers on dark eerie nights. The traveller becomes fixated with the Dog’s fiery red eyes and follows it as if in a trance.

I had a big black dog for 14 years till he passed from old age named Rebel, sometimes I swear he's still with me..

I remember encountering the black shuck when i was little in a nightmare The black shuck is somewhere in the east Anglian region

I have lived in rossendale Lancashire my whole life,I'm familiar with boggart's but the shreiker is new to me...........keep it up dude

As a point of interest, the phantom dog's other name "Skriker" I think must be Lancashire dialect for cryer. A word I don't hear much nowadays but heard it a lot when I was younger. Kids, including me, would be told to "Stop Skriking". Would be interesting to hear if the word is used in other parts of England.

The black dog, no particular area, has made it to the US, and into a good action film with Patrick Swayze and Meatloaf, titled...you guessed it, Black Dog. Gotta see it it turns up on YT. Crank up the popcorn popper!

Brilliant as usual Duke. Just read below you have an extensive forklore library, have you heard of 'auld stinker/old stinker' in Hull. Im from there and never heard of it until a year or so ago, have looked online and can only find the recent stories.....a werewolf if youre interested!

I've heard black dog stories before never knew them as Shriekers though very interesting . A bit off the subject have you heard of Herne The Hunter who is said to haunt Windsor Forest and Great Park in Berkshire ? Before I go have a like .
