The SIG MCX SPEAR LT in 5.56 is a soon to be released weapon that owes it's origins to both the NGSW program as well as recent SOCOM solicitations. It is the latest generation of SIG's MCX lineup of rifles and takes the weapon in a more professional direction. The SPEAR LT significantly reduces the weapon's weight from the Virtus lineup while giving more features that the Military / We asked for. I hope you'll join us as we go over SIG's newest offering; the MCX SPEAR LT.

The biggest issue with our issued MCX Virtus 11.5's is the weight, compared to our M4's. Also the SIG suppressors weren't available at the time so we're using AAC M2000's. Most of us looked for ways to save weight wherever we can. The rifle itself shoots well and cleaner with a can than a DI gun. We also use the Romeo 8 sight which when I first saw it i was skeptical about, however it's pretty decent. Great review!

@@christoolshed7746 they’d be crazy not to try and get his reach due it’s size. Nothing wrong with that IMO. It’s a cool product and I much appreciate GT’s approach telling us these things - compared to other guys just saying “this is a game changer” or “this is the best gun ever” after 1 mag. I’d be hard pressed to believe guys like Glover and GBRS arent directly on Sig’s payroll, but don’t know because they don’t tell us anything. Guys like Sage Dynamics also saying things like “this is not a review but me telling about a cool product I helped design” is another example of an acceptable ad to me. Most KZfaqrs will pretend a product is amazing (take Olight as one of the worst) and Blatantly not describe relationship and pretend it doesn’t exist.

A really good rifle, both in looks and in functionality. It really looks like the definitive evolution of the M4 and with a few bits of refinement and some time to settle, it will probably end up being the new iconic AR platform rifle. Definetly a bad flash hider but for how good of a suppressor mount it is, it doesn't even matter. Suppressors are pretty much a necessity and SIG did a really good job on that matter. I'd prefer a wider charging handle but that's about it. Really great weapon.

You should hear stories about what companies do to woo government (and military) personnel who are determining who wins the contracts. There are all.kinds.of.things that they can do that don't involve the exchange of money to "enrich" said people. And those are people who are bound by regulations on what they can and cannot accept. As a proud Virtus owner, it does kind of suck that I no longer have the latest and greatest, that being said, as a Sig fan, I want to see Sig continue to improve, and this definitely improved on my biggest complaint about the Virtus, which is it's thick handguards, and heavy weight. That being said, at least the weight reduces recoil a bit which is nice. And adding the DD forward grip to the Virtus made it way more ergonomic and pleasant to shoot. I will definitely own the Spear someday though.

I love the MCX! If I could afford even one MCX not to mention have an AR15-sized and AR10-sized MCX with multiple uppers in multiple calibers, I would do that! Unfortunately, the MCX is NOT the best answer for most of us!!! WAY TO MUCH BUCK FOR YOUR BANG!!! Luckily, we don't have to have just one... and... we can have multiple uppers. Keep your 5.56 upper, and build or buy uppers for other calibers that make sense for you. You don't need Gucci guns, just functioning, reliable guns!!! I'm glad you are steering people away from the 6mm ARC; IT IS THE ANSWER, and the more people you drive away from it, the more ammo for me!!! Lately, I'm loving 6mm ARC as a do-everything cartridge for the AR15; it works amazingly on everything from varmints to mule deer. It makes the AR15 practical and valuable!!! 6mm ARC has the potential to make people more familiar with their rifles and develop a much higher level of marksmanship as they use them for more things than just tactical classes. AR10s are also heavy and unwieldy for a tiny framed person. Even SOCCOM doesn't like carrying them. I Second what others are saying about having a .308 bolt gun... for ammo availability... but there are much better rounds out there if you are going to stock and carry something else... The nice thing is you can also have multiple AR10 uppers. For the cost of the MCX rifles you have there, I can have an AR15 with 5.56, 300 AAC, and 6mm ARC uppers, AND... an AR10 with .308, 6.5 CM, and .243 Winchester uppers. I could even have a second "pistol" upper in calibers for which that makes. With this arrangement, I can use commonly available ammo (whatever I can find or reload), AND ...which is most appropriate for my application. The best part is that I have much more flexibility and I've spent much less money! About the .277 Sig Fury, it can't be part of the conversation until we can readily get Rifles, Barrels, and Ammo. Final thought, if you need a piston gas operating system for whatever reason, build your uppers using Adams arms kits or something similar... you'll still but much less money into it that a SIG.
