The Atlantic silverside, also known as spearing in the northeastern United States, is a small fish found in the West Atlantic. It ranges from the Gulf of St. Lawrence in Canada to northeastern Florida in the USA.
Larger predatory fish like striped bass, bluefish, and Atlantic mackerel, as well as various water birds, prey on Atlantic silversides.
Their silver and white coloration confuses predators, and they use a strength-in-numbers strategy by schooling to reduce individual vulnerability.

Thread: 210 Denier or 3/0, white
Flash: Hedron's Lateral Scale Solid Colors - Silver
Eyes: Medium Sparkle Dumbbell Eyes - gold w/ silver
Belly: Natural white Bucktail
Back: Natural white Bucktail
Topping: Grey Ghost Bucktail
This fly is for False Albacore so the total length should not exceed 3 inches.

Enjoyed this. First time I saw someone use a hot iron or soldering gun? to clean up bucktail. Interesting. Hope you get to fish it with some success.

It is a cautery tool. I use it to help open the eye of the hook when the material starts crowding the eye. They can be a valuable tool. Check out your local fly shop or your online fly shop.

Sweet fly, I’m fixing to tie some up for specks. What is that tool you’re using to burn and clean up the hook eyelets with? I need one of those. Lol 😊
