Despite Andrew's deteriorating voice (already 63) and the absence of a proper bass guitarist, this was indeed a GREAT SHOW. Fans (aged 15-65) dancing around all the time at the tunes of new/unreleased songs but also old classics, Ben and Dylan technically immaculate and interacting with audience, Ravey full of energy behind Doktor Avalanche, Andrew's theatrical performance mesmerizing us all, while his iconic presence commanding the scene even when withdrawing from the forefront. The lightnings and rain at the end of the show simply charged the atmosphere even further. It is really a pity that this was not a sold-out event and the spot was not full; those who missed it, missed a magick evening.

You won't hear me complaining about his voice, honestly. He always sang different live compared to the records: it's worth remembering that even before he totally abandoned the idea of putting out records, he was already interested in the idea that a song should be a living breathing evolving thing, so I don't mind that the older songs have crystallized around changes in his body as much as any other factor. Nobody's ever heard a live version of Flood II where he wanted to sing it the way it sounds on recorded, for instance. I also have found that between the live mix (this is one thing that I wish the SIsters would improve) and the cameras that capture the performances, some of the nuance is squeezed out of it anyway - when you see 'em live it's often quite a muddy mix, but I've seen recordings of shows I was at, and I promise you, the "gargling" effect is somewhat amplified in the footage. Granted he is older, and he's had to shift his technique a bit out of necessity (he still smokes onstage during outdoor shows, so he never quit, and one imagines his lung capacity ain't what it used to be, which may be why he approaches certain parts differently now), but he's still very much The Guy. I think part of the joy of the newest songs, in fact, is that they are built around what he sounds like in 2022, and what his limits are, so you hear them and you immediately remember who you're dealing with. See them live, it's a blast, the whole band is very charismatic these days.

If they ever make a new album they are going to need a lot of autotune on Andrews voice. Basicaly at this point he is unable to sing.

Having followed them for years I haven't seen them since 93' but always checked on vids here, sad to say they've got progressively worse over time & Eldritch's vocals, although diminishing are usually drowned out / lost in the mix. Still not a fan of the newer line up, sound seems flat with no balls but this is the best I've heard Eldritch in a long time, can actually hear him for a change. Still looks like some pissed up old bloke hogging the karaoke & breaking out the dodgy Dad dance moves.
