How to design an effective video surveillance system for Self Storage Facilities. Stor-it Self Storage in West Jordan Utah is a new state of the art indoor and outdoor facility. Their vision of the facility relied heavily on a high level of security. Our design provides facial ID surveillance on the entirety of this sprawling 6 acre facility. The surprise for the owners was the final cost, 1/3 the price of others.
Storage Facility General Design
Normal design locates the video recorder in the rental office or the manager’s office. Entry gates are equipped with cameras specifically selected and located to record both the front and back plates of all vehicles as they enter and leave the facility. A properly designed system will also provide facial ID of the vehicles occupants. This can be accomplished with one well-placed camera.
Cameras are strategically located around the facility to get the most coverage from each camera. The cameras are usually located at the ends of each storage isle. Parking areas and perimeter fencing is usually covered as well.

Thank you for the video. Very helpful. Just curious, how would you prewire the security camera before installing the stucco? Do you install pancake above the sheathing like the way you do the lights? Thank you and keep on the good work!!

You can do it that way, we would likely mount the cameras back box onto the side of a stud and have it slightly recessed. That way the partible board and stucco is just formed to the mounts perimeter and the camera can mount right to the back box once the stucco is completed. Hope this helps.

I’m moving onto a 3.8 acre wooded lot. It’ll have a 2280 sqft home with an estimated 400 ft driveway with woods on both sides and and entry gate. What are my options to cover the home and surrounding area plus the long drive?

Ooops: At about 8:08, you have the midpoint of 525 Ft at 225 feet "down" . Great info in general. (Always doing the math along the way. )

I love that you picked up on that, I saw it too. The building on the other side was slightly shorter so my subconscious mixed the two distances. You are "always doing the math!" I see a lot of complaints about low cost cameras that don't really have what it takes to pick up a license plate. Do I need to buy a special camera to pick up plates or will just a good camera do the job?

Trying to install some cameras, my house has a pre wire poe and on the exterior an aluminum cap covers the cable. What is the best way to install the cameras? Can I just place the camera over the aluminum cap?

Is there an issue for IR if two cameras faced each other within a range of 30ft? Would the IR light interfere in the other cameras night vision?

The cameras should actually feed off each other IR light providing even better night vision. But if they pointed direct at each other there may be some halos that appear in the video. If the halos appear simply adjust the cameras viewing angles slightly until they disappear. You wont know until you do it. Hope this helps.

How do you drill holes on Hardieplank siding to mount your cameras?

Not familiar with Hardiepank but if its like the other composite siding materials you could likely use self-tapping drywall, or wood screws. My guess they hold as tight as can be expected. Hope this helps.

I live on a hill and park out back up the hill. I want to put one camera on my vehicle then one on a 10’ 2x4 attached to a clothesline pole ( facing my home) then a 3rd from my door to keep a eye on them two cameras for vandals. Do you think the ir light would interfere with another camera??

Just the opposite, most often each camera feeds off the other cameras IR light and actually stabiles the night vision for better performance. If the cameras are pointed at each other, there might be a bright glow around the camera but the effect should be minimal. Hope this helps.

@@BackstreetCameras I’m not gonna go directly at each other. Say a paper in front of you with north at the top. One is gonna be facing southwest from like the middle of the paper. The second one will be the same place but facing north east. Then the 3rd will be on my south edge of the paper about 1/3 to 3/4 to the right ( simulating the back wall of my place) and face the center point the other two are at. I would like to do something like that were the cameras would catch any vandals messing with them.
