Lyrics:
So swallow hard the serpent
Of many tags and faces hid in masks
Coiled ‘round this lung until the last
He’ll crack your boots young pagans
‘Cause like you I was hatched to traipse on cold
And 17’s a long drawn way from hope
And I’ve learned these lessons I was taught
Taut, so taught
And now I’m telling you
Return the faith
Return the faith
They’re smashing out the veils
Return the faith
And there’s no escape
So return the faith
With charging light brigades
Return the faith
You’ve gotta move
So as betrayed by rainbows
Here I convey I’ve sold out your dear cause
And the king has placed us in his jaws
It’s sure no place can hold us
But in this scene I’m December
And your June’s wretch
And my idyls lay gasping as if death
And I’ve learned these lessons I was taught
Taut, so taught
And now I’m telling you
And I’ve learned these lessons I was taught
Taut, so taught
And now I’m telling you
Return the faith
Return the faith
They’re smashing out the veils
Return the faith
And there’s no escape
So return the faith
With charging light brigades
Return the faith
You’ve gotta move
Return the faith
Return the faith

I was watching an interview with billy and he was saying that sometimes they record to a click-track, while other times they record completely off-the-cuff. He mentioned that in this song, Beguiled, recording to a click-track intensified the pounding rhythm of the song.

Exactly. He just keeps on making music regardles of what others think. He's not going to kowtow to others. He's got the ability to do all sorts of things musically, and he has the resources. He's already made enough money to live comfortably and he's not greedy just making money off of what he knows large crowds want to hear, so he does his own thing.
@ciaraskeleton
@ciaraskeleton 10 ай бұрын
@@alukuhito I think it's that aspect of an artist like Billy that always resonates. When they really aren't doing it for money, but doing it for expression and art's sake. I know he's obviously rich enough now to not care, but even in the early days he just thought 'fuck it I'm doing what I want and I will make it regardless'. I love that attitude. It's hard to exist in a messed up industry, so watching how someone can use it to their advantage and create a whole new space for their art blows my mind. A lot of artists 'make it' and that's that. They sell out or they quiet down, they get comfortable in the persona they built but he's still making brand new stuff. No gimmicks or repetition.

John 2:18-22 King James Version 18 Then answered the Jews and said unto him, What sign shewest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things? 19 Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up. 20 Then said the Jews, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou rear it up in three days? 21 But he spake of the temple of his body. 22 When therefore he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said. We have 46 chromosomes in our DNA the temple had been standing for 46 years this is definitive proof that the church is about to be raptured. We are in the third day waiting for the redemption of our DNA 2023-2030 2 Peter 3:8 King James Version 8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day Hosea 6:2 King James Version 2 After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight Matthew 24:37-39 King James Version 37 But as the days of Noah were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 38 For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, 39 And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. 1 Thessalonians 5:3 King James Version 3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape Get saved while you can the tribulation is about to begin any moment I believe Christ died in 30AD that means tribulation is beginning this year! In the tribulation in order to be saved you must endure till the end you must believe in whom the father sent and you must build a testimony of faith. Unless you get on the ark now you will have to face Gods wrath I suggest you get on the ark. The good news is that Christ died for our sins was buried and rose again on the third day he became sin on the cross so that we may be justified to the holy father who is in heaven. He didn’t come to abolish Gods Holy law but he came to fulfill that law. We where born condemned with our sin nature it’s not God that condemns us. John 3 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:17 “For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved 🕊✝️🕊🎺🌪

I actually don’t like that there’s children in this video. This song I like, but normally when heavy bands start putting children on albums, videos or on stage during concerts, that all sign the end of a good band normally. It coincides with lead members getting married and settled and losing the angst that made them glorious. So when I see kids I don’t like it. Although this song is good but billy corgan already had his big belly married man softy phase where I thought all was lost.

The vivid color scheme was perfect for the lyrics. Love to see long time favorite musicians still evolving, not just Charectures of them selves. Sometimes, the experiment fails or reaches a different group all together, it is through remaining vigilant to creating new music that I have total appreciation for the Pumpkins. Gish and Lull have deep seated memories that can not be recreated and still being a completest I will listen to theme start to finish. Mellon Collie crossed two of my favorite musical genres... Rock opera and the 90's reemergence of a full driving band with lyrics that spoke to me and my friends. Look forward to a new opera.

Oh my goodness it's the mother humping Smashing Pumpkins! Only a few minutes left before I was home. Got in and turned my stereo all the way up and blasted the F out this b! Tch!! F and you're welcome to my neighbors because they needed to hear this beauty too! Thank you from the bottom of my soul to the Smashing Pumpkins for this banger and the video rocks as well!! Been a fan since about 93 or 94. Keep up the excellent music. 🦄

I agree, although only in part. It is true that musically it seems childish compared to other great songs of the past, but I get the feeling that Corgan intends to convey a hidden message (apart of the explicitness of the lyrics, where the "return to faith" is a declaration of intentions), but in the staging of the video, where countless characters appear that seem straight out of a freak show (like real life nowadays, and that is the reason why this video is "painful to watch", as you wrote). In my opinion, this video is Corgan's response to all this absurd woke conventionalism in which we live today that does nothing more than confront each other (you can see when the long-haired man without a shirt and the woman start arguing), and he proposes a return to the traditional values of faith and family as the only way to bring people together again. Corgan is totally against today's society, which destroys our mind and, what is even more important, our spirit, and urges us to only take care of our physical appearance. I think that is evidenced in the video "Solara"; I believe that the line that Billy has taken in recent years has been the rejection of materialism and a return to spirituality, love, faith, understanding and solidarity. In my opinion, he proposes a return to human being. However, I repeat that musically it seems to me to be light years away from some songs from the past.

When I was in 6th grade (start of middle school), a group of 'cool' 8th graders (basically the seniors of middle school) befriended me and started making me mixtapes. All of them had one thing in common which is they were huge SP fans. I listened to the dubbed tape of Gish one of them made me almost nonstop. Almost a year later when I was about to enter 7th grade Siamese Dream came out that summer and that was such a life changing album for me. I'm still forever grateful those older kids took me under their wing and got me into so much great music as up until then I was listening to the same awful hair metal that my older brother loved. I thought about doing it but wanted to be home for Halloween. I was a little disappointed that they played mostly the newer stuff but it was still awesome and almost puts you in a kind of trance. Jane's Addiction had a bit of a stripper show going on in the background that I certainly didn't love - especially because there were kids there, including my 17 year old nephew, dammit - but they were still absolutely amazing and Perry was.... Perry. I was really there for Smashing Pumpkins, though, I had to keep myself from crying when he walked out on stage, and during a few of the songs. I never got to see them back in the day and life and shit kept getting in the way the last few chances I had when I was an adult - like Covid two years ago canceled the show. Smashing Pumpkins pulled me out of a kind of "matrix" twice in my life. I skipped school at age 16 when Mellon Collie was released - at least in our local record store - and laid on the heat vent in our old house in Minnesota and listened to the whole thing and it f*cked me up in a way. Then a couple of years ago I found my old Mellon Collie CDs in an old forgotten CD case and put them in on my way down to the beach. Most of it skipped so when I got down there I went out on the beach at night with my 6 foot Yogibo beanbag and my big headphones and listened to it and that one note at the end of Porcelina was like a tuning fork for my brain and it was the catalyst to a very weird, eye opening couple of years. I don't know what it is about Billy Corgan that has that affect on some of us, so I hear you on that. Since you're in Florida I can't recommend that highly enough; a little bit of a Delta 8 gummy or similar, a Yogibo beanbag, a good pair of headphones, and Porcelina. The whole album, of course, but Porcelina IS the sound of the ocean. Galapagos, too. Have a great time! I recommend bringing a small pair of binoculars unless you're super close to the stage. It was fun being able to see his facial expressions.
