Modfather! Sometimes I get frustrated from your lack or disdain of calling out chord names for what they actually are. I wish you included that vocabulary in your tutorials if possible. But Modfather, you're my dad explaining things in the most fatherly way. The way you walk me (and all of your sons) through these songs we love is truly, truly, truly very lovely. You are an instructor with a gift. Your side comments about amps and guitars and stealing the canes from blind men, only to beat their ugly wives into more ugliness with the very same cane are unforgivable, but appreciated. Modfather, my dear sir! Your have mastered many works of masters. You must have some original work lurking about. Please share that with me and all of your other students. I promise to steal it from you and you can deal with my lawyer later.

Something I just figured out while noodling this: on the "Fmaj7" where you do the picking part and do that pinky thing, instead of moving your pinky to the B note on the G string just lift your index finger and play the B string open. Seems a lot easier and more natural to me... Another thought: in the intro @3:50, the "standard bar chord at the 7th", try fingering just the three high strings and play the A and D open... got a nice ring to it.

For the third part, try the final two chords as C shape with pinky on high E 5th fret; the slide this shape up two frets. Sounds more like the colour that Marr uses.

It seems you missed my correction to my earlier question, so I will repost with correction in place:. These two tutorials on TJIFA are great, but I am still bewildered by one of the first chords, the one at about 4:24 (the "very nice chord" right after the E shaped chord at the capo). You say 4th fret G string, 5th fret D string, and then A and B on the 6th fret. Well, that is what it sounds like you said, but it doesn't sound right somehow (when I play it lol) and your fingers look as if you are playing the D on the 6th with your pinky, but that doesn't make any sense if you are playing the D on the 5th as well, as the 6th nullifies the 5th. So, what am I getting wrong?
@alexbillings7623
@alexbillings7623 7 жыл бұрын
Nicholas Rickford Pavlović-Grant I don't think you're getting anything wrong, just ignore the whole '5th fret D string' thing. The chord is EADGBe x44200 (relative to the capo)

I should add that it is the "really nice chord" right after the E-shaped chord up by the capo. I cannot make out what the string fret combos are. Sounds great, but I can't seem to figure it out still.

Ok, make sure your're marking from the nut, not the capo. Then the position is 00466X. The B and E strings ring out open, and you don't play the low E string.

The first video was fine by me.., sometimes it was hard to see your finger placement.., but all you have to do is 'hear it out,' You should continue with guitar lessons/tutorials for Smiths songs,, they're a bit complex compared to your average song, but easier enough to figure through with your videos... 'You've Got Everything Now' would be great to learn (as I commented earlier) I just love the second part of it with the fingerpicking bit ....also, with this song, in the second part (the I've seen this happen in other people's lives) I find that the last two chords in that progression.., you could play a C to D shape instead of an open F to D shape, as you did it, and it still sounds good/fitting.. (I thought that was interesting that they sound almost interchangeable)
