That sounds great ! Are you going through a jangebox or just a compressor + eq ? Just bought a 1993plus after struggling for 23 years with a 381/12v69. Love the wider neck. Like playing on the acoustic 12 string I learn’t guitar on 40 years ago.

Always come back to this awesome clip. The other day I saw and attempted to play a new 325C64 Miami. I’ve had a 350C63 and a couple different 360s and always dig the sound. But I truly was unprepared for how shockingly small the Lennon sized 325 is! I’m playing it thinking wow, it would take a lot of practice squeezing my hand around some of the chording on the short scale neck. My hands just too big and clumsy for this instrument. Two days later I’m back at the store buying it cause it’s been a bucket list guitar for me for 50yrs. Jamming it through my vintage AC30 with Celestion Alnico Blue speakers it’s hard to put down and the playing has gotten quite easier. So glad I didn’t give up so fast!

It’s basically a D chord you were searching for. He definitely tuned everything down a full step on the Smothers Brothers show and played in the key of A to start. It has a really cool spongy low tone. The end sequence goes D-C-G. He played it live later in the same key but not tuned down (Live at Leeds).

Only a Rickenbacker can sound like this- with the incredible treble and ring. Pete may, however, have used a Strat for the Who's original recording. At that time in '67, he was using Fenders and Rics. Personally IMHO this sounds as good or better than Pete's guitars.

Two amps (Vox AC30 & Roland Jazz Chorus) at the same time really helps. Along with compression, I've got some level/gain going, mild distortion and chorus, and also some reverb. Add it all up and you get this sound.🧡

@@modfather1965 Thanks, man, really appreciate your getting back to me! I also have an old AC30TB. I have tended to shy away from using compression (e.g. the Jangle Box) because it is very noisy, especially through an old Vox, but I've got some noise filters now so will try again. Those Roland Choruses are great for Rics- McGuinn used to use them back in the '90's, pretty sure. Thanks again. Your tone is spectacular.
