A knight in green and black eyed the clone as he steped from the mists. The clone didnt even register his presence. "...Fulgrim." The broken primarch would not respond. Too lost in grief to have the will for anything. "...not even a snide remark. Ill be." The knight said. "...kill me and be done with it brother." "Are you really that eager to die again?" "I have been tainted beyond everything. I was violated,torn and contorted into a parody of nightmares. I am no child of the inperium. I deserve death and worse." "Yet here you are now. You still have a chance." The clones eyes lit in burning fury. "Do you really believe that? Do you really believe We deserve redemption? Look at us! We failed. We were brought low by erebus. We were brought low by our hubris. We FAILED! We deserve nothing but to be ripped apart by the entropy of the warp!" "I share your guilt. In the grimdarkness of the far future, there is still wholesome stories like this. Fulgrim would be proud of his son here, a genuine, if a bit reluctant, father figure to Kit. And seeing Kit being a full-fledged Space Marine serving under the now captain who saved him long ago was very sweet and heartwarming. Plus that sniper who shot the Drukarii witch deserves some credit too, showed up in the nick of time and in a badass way. That whole seen was so awesome! "Oh? The civilians had begun to clear away the rubble and bodies, putting their people onto stretchers or wrapped in fabrics. The xenos corpses were grabbed and tossed into fires, looks of disdain on the imperial citizens as the invaders turned to ash. The guards helped civilians gather and find their loved ones. As with every xeno invasion, spouses lost each other and children had been made orphans. Kit was among them, looking towards the guardsmen. A ship's thrusters cut through the chatter, as a Thunderhawk landed with the marine's colors and sigil. A few astartes came to meet their brothers, but the lieutenant wasn't among them. One was unlike the others, clad in black with a face plate resembling a skull, though his pauldron bore the color and sigil of the others. This marine stepped towards the children, gazing over them. "I am Chaplain Dometrius of the Sons of the Phoenix. I am here to recruit some of you into our esteemed chapter... who among you is named Kit?" Kit rushed to the front and stood before him. "I am, sir!" The chaplain knelt down to look at this young whelp better, and saw a fire in his eyes. Fury and wrath indeed, but also warmth and light. "Yes... I can see why the brother lietunent spoke of you. You would be a fine Astartes." Kit's face beamed with pride, and the others looked on as the marine rose to face them. "To become Astartes is the most gruelling process you will undertake. Years of training, discipline and argumentation will become your new life. Some of you may not survive even this. Once you become Astartes, you will serve in the most dangerous of battlefields against the strongest of foes and the most impossible odds. You will do these things so that the Imperium and its people may live on, even if you are to perish. We are the Emperor's defenders of humanity, his bulwark against the terror. We are his angels of Death, and only in death does our duty end. Those of you who wish to join us, follow me." The chaplain turned to return to his ship, and Kit followed soon after. About 16 boys followed suit, as the ship prepared for take-off. Of those 16, only four would survive the trials of the chapter, and one would fall in combat only five years into service. As for Kit, he led his squad through numerous missions and battles, eventually reaching the rank of sergeant. As for his old savior, Kit calls him Captain for a time. Twenty years into his service, Kit sees the Captain ripped apart by a ork warboss. That same warboss has his powah klaw shoved through his head by Kit, a lietunent himself at the time. At the funeral ceremony for the Captain, Kit places his old friend's helmet on a slab of rock-crete. "Please... don't go." He stands vigil there for some time, before one of his brothers calls him once more to the battlefield. Kit wipes away his tears and dons his helm, ready to face the enemy. He is Astartes now, and he will fight so that other may live on.

A true loyal Fulgrim would be proud of his sons.

what is great about this is that the Sons of the Phoenix are possible successor of the Emperor's Children, so they could very likely be that righteous and kind ... well Salamander are still the good boys of the Imperium, but still

For a legion that went heretical it still pleases me to see some of the emperor's children remain loyal and show the same humanity as a salamander would.

This comic perplexes me. This marine is clearly of the thirds legion, yet he appears loyalist. This, then, must be take place before the heresy, perhaps even before reunification with the Phoenician, yet his battle plate is of primaris design, a modern invention. Perhaps a modern thirds loyalist third legion successor chapter yet fights for the imperium, but all of Fulgrims remaining gene seed lies stored away on Solemnace. What a strange thing…
