The only thing that jumped out to me with the sung galdrs is they start with the story part, then proceed with the actual charm &, if the idea is to induce some kind of trance, looking at how they're written, my best bet is they would say the first part once, then keep repeating the second part over & over.

Working with the Crawford translation of Havamal, stanza 142 says that Odin carved great and powerful runes. 144 implies that the author knows how to use the runes in a ritual manner. 151 describes a man carving a curse, likely using runes to go with the theme of carving great and powerful runes. 157 says that Odin can resurrect a man by carving and painting runes, explicitly stating that runes are magical. So while most spells do contain a spoken incantation or galdr, there is an explicit connection between carving and painting runes and casting spells. The attempts of secular scholars to attack the legitimacy of rune magic is simply ignorant anti-pagan bigotry.
