TeeGee Universe definitely. If you look back at both trailers, the starting scene looks the exact same with how Sonic is preparing to run, the main difference other than the design itself being that he’s in Green Hill Zone in the second trailer and the town of Green Hills in the first trailer.

Honestly, I feel like the only time Robotnik/Eggman ever actually felt like a legitimately competent, serious, threatening, and dangerous villain was in Sonic Adventure 2. Ever since then, he's become a fairly comedic and kind of goofy character. That being the case, I think Jim Carrey's approach to the role works in his favor.

Yeah this seems like a live action skinnier version of Classic Robotnik or Colors/Generations/Lost World/Boom Robotnik. Robotnik may have returned to being more menacing and threatening in Forces but more often than not he’s goofier than he is threatening.

@Itch-HeSay It's kind of inevitable with long-running archenemy types like Eggman or even Bowser. They're dangerous and villainous at first but after a dozen or so appearances, their relationship with the hero evolves into more of a "frenemy" type thing because of how familiar they are with eachother. The villains then become softer and more comedic as a result.

What a turnaround. There's so much charm and confidence in this second trailer, it's bizarre. I wasn't completely onboard with the redesign in the leaks, but seeing it in action, I do think they nailed it. I genuinely laughed at the jokes that shouldn't have been that funny really, like the baseball, paddleball and even the latte jokes, but it pulled them off. The big concern now is still the story, which could still be every movie like this in the past 20 years. But if the movie focuses on character moments and embraces the absurdity, which this trailer seems to show off, then maybe it'll find a way through and create an identity for itself.

Me too! I was still gonna go watch it, with the old design, to see how they were gonna pull it off. And when i saw the leaks for the redesign, i was like; there's no way that they're gonna go with this. And then, when i saw it in action, it just worked! BTW's, i kinda got a bit of the story, Sonic will leave his planet, (possibly Mobius) have fun, accidentally make his presence known, meet tom, run into Robuttnik, team up with Mike Wachowski or whatever it is, then send that Egghead to another world! And then, if, and that's a big IF, they make a sequel... he'll return, still trying to catch that hedgehog.

The original trailer looked like a masterpiece compared to what Sony pictures wanted...originally when they had the rights, it was supposed to be a very dark and edgy film like the dark knight trilogy and have a pg-13 rating. It was also going to have a darker origin for sonic and the others

7:10 Correction. Hill Top Zone is the fifth zone in Sonic 2. The second zone in Sonic 1 is Marble Zone. Correction: Bridge Zone, not Marble Zone. I missed the part where he said the game in particular was on Game Gear and Master System.

Moving on from the correction, I very much agree with the video. The redesign looks great, and the movie itself looks somewhat different. As for including the old design somewhere in the film, I think it should be on some poorly hand-drawn Wanted poster or something. I've heard another KZfaqr state he'd want the DVD to have a special feature of the original version of the film.

I would like to see if they can pull of some references to the games, like imagine if Sonic and the other guy are riding on a car and then Sonic starts playing music on the radio, keeps changing stations and we hear many songs from the game, then the other guy changes the station and he keeps it in one of the songs from Sonic R, and Sonic stares at him like "serious?"

The fact that not only the design but the trailer has a completely different feel makes me believe the 1st trailer was somewhat forced upon us to test and react. You can change a character, but not the entire film. Let me explain: Initially, the makers of the film, most notably the film director, were going for the more faithful Sonic look, but executives weren't having it. This is a well known fact now. So there's a bit of dispute between both sides. What do you do when there's an impasse? You ask the customers. You do a Test release, early enough so that if changes need to be made, they have enough time to do so. Naturally it causes an outcry, and what happens JUST a few hours later? A tweet from the film director saying, "We heard you loud and clear. We're fixing it". Now, evidently they needed to push the release date back a bit to finish up VFX and the overall redesign. But this gives us a different perspective. Did they redesign it? Yes, and I'm more than grateful. Was it Really "answering to the fans?" No. More like using audience's reaction to convince executives to fix the design (because trust me when I say nothing gets done without the approval of the producers), and had the creators not Planned to have that original design, we wouldn't have gotten this trailer we see now. Cases like this don't happen in the industry because of "the fans", but because there's corporate interest, and I think people should look at a situation more critically than shout "THEY LISTENED TO THE FANS!" Please ...

Actually, the Chaos Emeralds and Dragon Balls along with the super forms from both franchises were both inspired by Journey to the West, if Sonic ripped it off of anything, it's that novel.

Well, in an interview it was stated by Sonic's VA that he'd go in and ask to look at previous lines the next day and ask to change them. Since they were redoing Sonic anyway, I wouldn't be surprised if quite a few of Sonic's lines got altered, at least in places where excessive reshooting wasn't needed. The idea was that he was a 12-year-old allowed to do things for the first time. BUT you must also remember those trailers where people will edit movie trailers to look like they're from entirely different genres. In the 90s, Robotnik didn't have so much of a personality. The GAMES had not defined much about this circular villain. It was up to the medium - animated or comic or even books - to decide. That's why people say "X was my favourite Eggman". It was only by Sonic Adventure that we started seeing a game personality. I think Carrey's Robotnik could just be said to be another version. It's actually mildly reminiscent of Boom Eggman - a man who went out for the post as well as intended to conquer and destroy - which is interesting because that's the Eggman a lot of kids will be familiar with.

He is an "Alien" in this movie. Anatomy doesn't matter. You can EASILY make him look the way he looks now and it being okay because again...he's an Alien. "Realistic" anatomy is out the window. They honestly should have done what they did now earlier instead of making him look too "real" but I am grateful they fixed it. The director and art director did a great job listening to the people. That's a beautiful thing.

Okay. Gotta be that guy. Hill Top Zone is the 5th level from Sonic 2 for Megadrive/Genesis. The 2nd level from Sonic 1 for Game Gear/Master System is Bridge Zone.

Here's what we know thus far. And based on my interactions with those closest to the movie's development. 1) Sonic's design was already in extensive redesigning stages as far back as a few months before the first trailer's release. The evidence behind this from a public standpoint was with the Paramount reveal back during Cinemacon and the speaker stated that what people saw VFX wise in the trailer, was nowhere near complete and a lot of how Sonic will look is already in heavy rework. 2) There's been evidence to point that there were no new reshoots regarding the film and the script is exactly the same as before, So this also means that regardless of stating "we're redesigning the character" when that was already in the cards anyway. The reaction to the first trailer just helped the team be able to really step up and be a massive surprise by the time the next trailer came around. 3) While this feels like a completely new film now with the new design and just overall trailer (despite going to be this in the end anyway), the CEO of Paramount hopes that if this film does well, then they can have a new franchise IP on their hands AND get the opportunity to have a healthy and unprecedented relationship with SEGA. And to be fair... despite the film not coming out yet. Name another movie that had the internet talking that wasn't a Marvel movie or some film from Disney? Exactly. This movie is a first for many things. And that speaks a lot to its future. *fingers crossed*

Imagine if they went in a Spongebob Movie direction, where most of what we see in the trailers is our world, yet the majority of the actual movie takes place in his world.

Sonic lives in Green Hill Zone on South Island, The place is his home, that's why they use it in most video games. Sonic video games, well most of them begins at his home where he leaves on his adventures to save his planet.

I actually hope there is a line where either Tom, Robotnik, or anyone else who will see Sonic say 'You look so weird, how can you be a hedgehog, I mean you have the quills but hedgehog?' and Sonic would say 'Trust me, me looking more hedgehog would be a nightmare, I'd totally not look like my handsome self!'
