We are finally back racing! I might be undertrained and underprepared but it's been so long since we had any race day footage on the channel, I thought what the hell, lets go and take on the challenging 44 miles of the inaugural Mudcrew South West Traverse. This has to be one of my favourite coastal routes starting at Lizard Point and the following the coast path all the way round to the iconic finish at Lands End. Really hope the video does the stunning Cornish scenery some justice and inspires you to take on this epic event.

Excellent video. I used to run a lot of that route before ultra running and KZfaq videos were invented….I’m too old now but it brought back many happy memories of that scenery 👍🍷

i don't run myself not anymore anyway but i live in cornwall and frequent the path weekly, love Lamorna strangely enough with all the craggy rocks etc, but what a great video, incredibly inspirational, awesome can’t say enough of how much i enjoyed watching this entire video 👍

Yep, it was the most ridiculous hat but also probably the best hat for the conditions. In that heat, dunking it every stream worked wonders. Great video as always.

Been waiting for this one. Fantastic film Loyd, you managed to convey the beauty and the suffering with equal aplomb. Great to see you out racing again! I was watching with interest from Minnack on, as I'll be starting Arc 50 from there. Mr Cousins has been a busy boy, he flew past me on Old Winchester Hill last week at SDW100.

@@Run4Adventure Good run wasn't it, it was rather hot so I'd imagine that took a few out. Knee played up on the last stretch from an earlier fall, a nice cow hoofprint sent me flying. But I learned a lot and ran well all things being. Btw the hoka tecton x were amazing the whole time. Sorry I didn't say hello, but the minute I got there, we were dragged off into registration. But I am doing the plague this year.

@@Run4Adventure Have a good one, each time I do one of these I come back stronger than ever. Got me a 28 mile port isaac down the coast run the week prior, I'll take it easy just in case but it should set me up nicely. Getting the gear tuned up the way I like it, so slowly getting there. It's all a learning process afterall 👍 Edit - Isn't that the utmb, nice one the trails look gorgeous there 🥰

Weird series of questions (but ones that may well be a great subject for a video) so here goes. I've just got a GoPro Hero 9 to record my runs - especially the trail ones that take me to some beautiful places. I've got a 100km race in the Swiss Alps in July so I'm hoping to take it with me. How do you take this vids? Do you carry spare batteries with you in your pack or in a dry-bag at an aid station? What settings do you use for the best results? Do you take continuous vids as you go along? Or do you start and stop when you get to particularly beautiful settings? Is there a huge amount of post-production work done to your race vids or is the basic footage acceptable enough? Do you carry a gimble? An extensible selfie-stick maybe? What about the chest or head mounts (are those any good)? The questions are endless and you've got so much experience with this that I'm very very curious about how you handle camera work specifically for running.

Wow that's a long question! 😊 Firstly the Gopro hero 9 is a great camera so you've got the right one! Secondly filming in the Swiss Alps will be EPIC! I tend to switch the camera on when I've got something to say or film. You only get around 1 hours filming time on a full battery so this way it safes your battery life. I always carry a spare battery and SD card in a dry bag just in case. On this video I actually used both of the batteries up and had to charge one of them up again with my crew. I carry a mini Gopro handle that's also a mini tripod, it's available on the Gopro website and it's a great piece of kit. As far as editing and production goes, we put a lot of hours into that! I think it took me around 10hrs just going through all the footage we captured and picking out the bits I wanted to use 🤪 Then we probably put in another 15-20hrs in to cutting, finding music and editing after that! I have actually done a video on the channel about the equipment we use to film but maybe it's time we did another more up to date one. Thanks Mike, I'm glad you enjoyed the video. The Inov8's ran well and yes I use High 5 in my bottles and salt stick salt chews. I think a lot of the cramping issues was down to fatigue because a lack of training and it was pretty warm! Thanks for watching the channel it's appreciated 🙏

I've found that salted peanuts and salt tablets help a bit, just wondered what you were using as I might be missing a trick. Maybe an idea for a future review/video, I've never seen one before about salt replacement products!

Have been running in Trailfly and TerraUltra trying to figure which is best for me, can definitely feel my legs are a bit fresher when I have been in the Trailfly, but feel a bit nimbler in the TerraUltra, did 19 miles today exploring some of Cornwall while visiting.....my map reading skills need work 😂
