When my granny was a young woman, Sir Thomas Lipton moored his yacht off Gourock. My granny borrowed a rowing boat and charged folk money to go out and round the yacht for a closer look. On her third trip or so, Sir TL asked what she was doing so she called back what she was up to. He shouted back to her - congratulating her on her entrepreneurial endeavour 😂.

The story of the Southern Necropolis is in itself quite astonishing- maybe worth an episode? Also a shout out to The Friends of Southern Necropolis group who dona great job in keeping the place from ruin.

Allan Glen buried here also. Our Geography teacher Mr McSkimming spent some time trying to find his grave back in the 80s - I recall a trip in the school mini-bus!

Coming from Rutherglen, I pass this amazing place most days, completely oblivious to the people and stories held within. From castle greyskull’s very own Charles Wilson to Alexander “Greek” Thomson’s granite armchair 🫤. It would be well worth a visit

I went to John Bosco Secondary and the art rooms overlooked this cemetary - we used to get set assignments to paint it. It's suffered a lot of deterioration since then :/ but it's been nice to see it. :)

I have an American colleague who LOVES Lipton tea. I’ll be telling her these facts tomorrow - I had no idea Lipton was a Glasgow boy. The first shop is also spitting distance from our office 😊

And regarding Tea. Circa 1965, there was a kind old woman named Rose McGinty-Ward from Glasgow who introduced me to tea. Every time I would see her we wound enjoy a cup and a nicely buttered English muffin. Well you can call this nice lady Rose or Mrs Ward, I prefer to call her Grand Mom.

09:53 Frank Lloyd Wright has another link with Glasgow - the Steelcase museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan. When we were given an after-hours tour by my sister-in-law, c.1984, the floors showcased some remarkable side-by-side furniture (domestic and commercial) comparisons with FLR and CRM (all CRM originals - probably better than Kelvingrove!). We also got a tour of the Meyer May House again in Grand Rapids, owned and curated by Steelcase. Several years later, I visited Hill House in Helensburgh with a friend - different exterior, but a stunningly remarkable and deja vu resemblance on the inside. From that point on, I believed in Jung's theory of synchronicity! Unforgettable - and slightly weird experience - having visited the two. PS - I passed by the former Glasgow office (c.2007) of Steelcase today, approx 79 St Vincent Street.

Very interesting. Would definitely like more of these stories. Very informative. You do your research well.🎉 Lipton tea is very popular and is in nearly every restaurant in NY but it isn’t my favorite although now I know the history, I might revisit my tea taste..lol😊

My Mum's family are from Johnston (you may remember Jaconelli's ice cream vans?) so I spent a lot of time in Johnstone, Paisley and Linwood when I was growing up.

Not enough vampires have iron teeth, I'm thinking. The hi-rise flats resemble larger versions of the memorials. I worked for Lipton's for a while, but it was contracting so I took a payoff and headed away to college.
