This song became my private anthem long ago. When I was adolescent it gave me a kick of very strong inner political awarness. In addition to the perfect tune. In the eighties of the 20th century it was impossible to hear that kind of music in my country. The iron curtain was working in Poland. Only one radio presenter once a month gave us the chance to listen to ska, reggae and earlier, punk music which he brought form the UK. The Specials have been a living legend. And here`s to You, the Specials!

In early 2000's, I had bought the compilation A Checkered Past. Heating this song was the first time i heard the counternarrative to the media's 'Israel always and only acts in self defense' which I had long accepted as fact. Thank you Jerry Dammers. ✌️ 🇵🇸

I remember hearing the very first playing of this as a teenager on the John Peel show. I'd been waiting for something new from the Specials for a long time and I remember being blown away by this.

Did you follow The Special AKA after the original Specials lineup disbanded? I believe the only two members still remaining were Jerry Dammers and John Bradbury, with the addition of Rhoda Dakar on lead vocals, and other session musicians and backing vocalists.

I believe a few of the lyrics shown in the video aren't quite correct: Bombs to settle arguments, the order of the boot (not "booth") Can you hear them crying in the rubble of Beirut? From the graves of Belsen where the innocent were burned (not "innocent will burn") To the genocide in Beirut, Israel was nothing learned?

On my Specials CD (an import my aunt picked up for me when she lived in London), it lists this song done by Special AKA. When I do my radio shows, I'd like to know if I should say both bands or say The Specials. Where or when was there a switch or change in who did this song?

I'm kind of three years too late, but: I think you should say The Special AKA. This final lineup did not include most of the previous Specials members. I think the only two were Jerry Dammers (keyboardist/songwriter) and John Bradbury (drums), with the addition of Rhoda Dakar (from ska band The Bodysnatchers) on lead vocals, and other session backing vocalists and musicians.

This is indeed the Specials, I did not know myself they went by the alias Special AKA, but always thought this was by the Specials throughout high school. To clear up the confusion :)

Dammers was the leader of The Specials and owns the naming rights to "The Specials". As this is Dammers' band for me it'll always be The Specials.

@@BrennanYoung Well, I would always make a distinction between the final Special AKA and the Specials, because the lineup had drastically changed, as well as the musical direction. Jerry Dammers was the main songwriter for all iterations of the band, as well as owning the legal right to the band name(s), which is why the Special AKA songs end up appearing on The Specials compilations. I consider them two distinct bands, though. They sound completely different.

Still so relevant today with genocide in Gaza. Jerry Dammers and Special AKA were brilliant. I've still got the vinyl album, all of which is so good. One small thing -words on album say "order of the boot" which makes more sense so not sure why words here say "booth"?

looking at some previous posts on this, it's should be noted this is Special A.K.A, NOT The Specials. Two fairly different sounds and times in music. Those that don't like this because it's not Do the dog or Nite Klub should keep this in mind.

This song has a very important message. It needs to be redone with better music and voices. It can definitely make a much better impact with better upbeat/angry music.
