The Sphaera Puzzle is a good example of a dexterity puzzle! It's quite a bit harder than it looks! With beautiful inlaid wood, it's a really nice looking puzzle!

I keep them mostly in drawers. I have about 20 puzzles out on a shelf that are "active puzzles", and the rest are stored in a series of tubs and drawers, so that I have easy access but they don't overwhelm my apartment!

Fleb, there are many channels similar to yours - who do similar content. What sets you apart is not only your character, your voice, your mannerisms - but also how you have credit for being an actual puzzle champion. You know of what you speak. Your style is very important - that trademark 'spoiler break' is great. You also know exactly how much to speak and what to say and what not to say. Everything you say has a purpose and is phrased well. I have watched other videos where the guys spends way too much time talking about irrelevant topics - and even talks about what videos are coming up next. Keep doing what you are doing - if you feel it gets repetitive and want to stop , please do not. You are the only one who approaches puzzles the way you do!

Hey, @FLEB, do you actually enjoy puzzles like this where the challenge is the mechanical ability rather than your brain ability? I'm a game design student, and I kind of assumed puzzlers would be turned off by a puzzle like this, where the limiting factor is something physical. I might be thinking about it wrong though, as puzzling isn't quite the same as a strategic style game. Just curious what your gamer types are.
@FLEBpuzzles
@FLEBpuzzles 7 жыл бұрын
I do enjoy puzzles like this! Like I said in the video, it isn't just pure mechanical skill. There's a certain amount of analysis you can do to solve the puzzle. There are lots of dexterity puzzles! (Check out the Lily Library's archive of puzzles to see more) Many of them have you figure out exactly how you have to move to solve them. They can be quite challenging! And it's nice to have a physical challenge every once in a while! If you're interested in seeing other puzzle types that are outside of what you typically think of puzzles, try looking at impossible object puzzles! Those you don't even manipulate, the whole challenge is explaining how they were made! The puzzle world is wide and extremely varied!

Congratulations on 100k! Two small suggestions for showing mechanical puzzles like this: (1) perhaps use some small pieces of tape or a marker to make it clearer for a viewer to see where the gates are (2) stabilize the time-lapse on the center to make it easier for the viewer to follow the balls Congratulations again!

adithyarini You're right, you can't just spin it clockwise/anti-clockwise. You have to spin it upside down, that way the force is flipped and the balls will be spun towards the centre, whichever way you spin it. It's funny how science works like that.

My dad has a little toy puzzle with 2 triangles laid diagonally within a cube, and the goal is to get 6 metal balls in holes on those triangles. Dad tried for a few weeks and gave up, getting 5/6 in. I grabbed a magnet off the fridge and got all 6 in a minute. He threw the puzzle out after that. I think I won the 'smarter, not harder' challenge for the week...

Congrats on 100k dude! Is this puzzle in two pieces? I could see it being made, maybe, on a lathe. But it would be a lot easier if it were a top (the rings) and a bottom, (the base).
@FLEBpuzzles
@FLEBpuzzles 7 жыл бұрын
Looking at the puzzle in front of me, it looks like the base is a separate piece, and each ring has been made separately. The rings have a slight slant to them, which I think it what keeps the metal balls inside!
@IslandHermit
@IslandHermit 7 жыл бұрын
If you turn the puzzle upside down (i.e. solve it while holding it over your head), the balls should drop partway into the slots between the rings, where there will be more friction, slowing them down. That might make it a bit easier to solve.

I was kinda hoping that there would be a fantastical solution such as a reverse of the 'reset' maneuver. That would have been phenomenal.
@FLEBpuzzles
@FLEBpuzzles 7 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, there's no move that I know of that generates inward force. If you spin something, the force will always be outwards. That would have been cool, though!
@TVFILMBUFF
@TVFILMBUFF 7 жыл бұрын
Obviously it's not going to be an inverted centrifugal force pulling the balls inwards...I was thinking more along the lines of the centrifugal force opening/moving the gate positions revealing a secret path to the inner sanctum.
