luminositymusic BrianPRickard- Yup, kinda freaky. Maybe the body’s resting on something. Or he’s got a bespoke stand for it? Or, a rig like Billy F’s: Alex takes a step back for clearance..then Taadaa! he spins it 360 degrees like a propeller, grabs the neck, plays: not one beat skipped. That’s probly it...

@Rongle Bringer Interesting... I did notice how he was using his pinky where most guitarists would normally let their ring finger rest on that first string to change that note. His method gives it a bit more prominence.

I think Rush was one of the very first groups containing ALL mega-super-talented musicians that was able to achieve huge commercial success, besides Yes of course and maybe just a few others - but Yes focused a bit more on "musicians' music" while Rush somehow brought much of the same previously noncommercial style into the mainstream. The fact that the drummer was also the main lyricist is just a great added bonus. I never was much of a Rush fan - but as a published songwriter and musician myself, it's impossible for me to ignore absolute jaw-dropping talent when I hear it.

Share same comments as others! Not only my favorite band of all time, but Alex is top 5 guitar players of all time....on my list. Better than talent and skills is his humility, openness and calmness. Opposite of the typical over-indulging and self-centered guitar players you often see. Not aloof, but so real. You just wanna sit down and have a beer....or in this case, probably glass of wine! Thx for sharing

Alex absolutely deserves to be mentioned with the great guitarists. Dale daddy I was just thinking to myself "Self, his Gibson Les Paul Signature Model (make that a "Double Signature") is truly nice, but I miss the '90s period when he was playing primarily PRS CE models... he could truly get heavy, but his "Low-Gain Distortion" and "Clean" Tones were just fantastic. Plus, I thing they looked great on him visually... when I think of Alex playing live, the first visual that comes to mind is him with a PRS. ...plus, the idea of the sheer amount of wood touted from a Les Paul for a Floyd Rose (as opposed to the relatively small amount for a Kahler top-mounted Trem) just makes me very sad." 😨 And yes, his Signature H&K Tri-Amps looked great and sounded even better! 👍🏼

Brilliant musician and a really good sport for showing us this. I saw these guys six times in my area, when I was a teen.

Do you think since he's obviously played this song a billion plus times, that as he's playing he's thinking of other shit he has to do during the day? Like I just think all of them are on auto pilot :) NO ONE will ever beat the 3 Wise Men

Love the closeup of the fretboard and his hands. Notice the fret wear - a guitar well loved.
